Thanks Louise, another smashing video. I can highly recommend the Taunton history walks that the museum runs throughout the year ❤. Wishing you every blessing and happiness for the New Year and looking forward to watching more lovely content from you!
What a super interesting video Louise. I love how many of the buildings are built from bricks rather than stone. On a side note that Jamaican food looked awesome
Thank you Tommy! Yes, that’s true about the bricks .. I had not considered that, but you are right. Very nice….. as was that Jamaican food! I had never eaten Jerk Chicken before. The rum punch was incredible too. I have never had that before either.
Fascinating trail and history. As I mentioned before I went to boarding school there, it will be half a century ago in 2025, I do remember the Market House, that was as far as I normally went, coming from the direction of the railway station across the bridge. Just beyond the Market House on the right there was a County Bookshop where I like to visit. As I mentioned in your last video I know St Mary's, now Taunton Minster, I played the organ for our school's carol services. I also stayed in the County Hotel on two occasions the night before school started. I also remember Debenhams. The Berni Inn rings a bell but I never went inside. The other places I didn't know about at that time. I wish to revisit the town and my school. Thanks so much for filling in the history.😊
Thanks so much for sharing your memories! Really lovely to read. That must have been really special to play the organ at St Mary’s. It’s such a beautiful church. I never knew The County Hotel as a hotel. Nice that you got to stay there before school started! I hope you can return to the town some time.
Very interesting and enjoyable tour of some of Taunton's rich heritage. The almshouses reminded me somewhat of the medieval houses in Vicar's Close, Wells, though they are of a much later date. The coffee shop in the former Tudor Tavern must be one of its best appointed outlets in the country! Thank's for a great video: it has whetted my appetite for a return visit after some forty-plus years!
Thank you Malcolm! Oh yes! I can definitely see what you mean about the similarity of the alms houses to the Vicars Close houses in Wells! Really pleased that it whetted your appetite to visit Taunton and I hope to get to do so soon … and enjoy a visit to the coffee shop too!
Another great video, lots of places I remember well from my summers in Taunton. Oh and thanks so much for the email response, was very helpful. Keep up the good work. Mark
Fabulous tour Louise, I've not spent much time in Taunton - only really fly through on the train or as a connection point for minehead. The tour of the tower looked fab. Thanks for showing us around 😊
Thanks Jesse! If you ever visit, let me know. There’s a fantastic new GWR coffee shop at the railway station too. I hope to make a video about it this week.
Thank you!! I have a few from Minehead and Dunster on the channel, but definitely plan on making some more content from those places. Watch this space 🤗
Brilliant idea!! I definitely hope to over Barnstaple soon. I lived in Lynton for 6 years snd Barnstaple used to be my shopping centre. It will be interesting to see how it has changed.
Really great video .nice to see you covering some history of a place . I remember the Berni inn very well 😂 also my friend has a silver trowel that was used to lay the first foundation stone at the Almshouses featured in your video No Leper house on the trail ?
Oh that’s all really interesting! Thank you for sharing! Pleased that you enjoyed it! The leper houses are such characterful buildings. They are a bit further out of town though. The trail was concentrated around the town centre.
I've known Taunton for almost 60 years, used to go into Market house pub , unfortunately Taunton has been allowed to become run down since cattle market closed , but ivory Vivary park still one of my favourite places.

Excellent Louise! I can tell you have worked really hard on this. I learnt lots about Taunton's history by watching it . Brilliant! 😊

Taunton is packed with things to see & do. I think the alms houses are beautiful.
I agree Faith! It’s so easy to just walk by places every day, but it’s so good to stop and look at our surroundings and all the history around us.
Really great video .nice to see you covering some history of a place .

Thank you Louise, we will definitely try the Trail. 😊
Ah brilliant! I hope you enjoy it!
I've often wondered why the Market House is so called.
I've known Taunton for almost 60 years, used to go into Market house pub , unfortunately Taunton has been allowed to become run down since cattle market closed , but ivory Vivary park still one of my favourite places.
I agree … Vivary Park is really lovely. Such a brilliant recreation space. I wish I had been in the area when the cattle market was part of the town.
This heritage tour looks interesting. We’ll definitely visit this year. Think I said that last year 😅
Yay! Hopefully we can meet up if you come!
@ definitely 💯
A lovely town to live but like ever town it has it's less desirable areas
I agree 🤗
