Disclaimer: I'd like to clarify that this video only refers to me leaving oil on my scalp with no intention of washing it out which I cannot do. I cannot oil my Scalp throughout the week and leave oil on my scalp for days without washing it out. However I've learned that my scalp does tolerate hot oil treatments as long as I am washing out the oil immediately on the same day.
I to had to stop oiling my scalp. I was wandering why my scalp was so doggone sore all the time. When I decided to stop I have noticed a huge difference when I don’t any longer. I was so use to oiling it, it was second nature. 2 moths later no soreness at all whatsoever. So relieved I figured this out! No pain at all for the first time in many years.
Found my people. My hair even grows mega fast when I stopped oiling my scalp. My hair roots aren’t as dry anymore like it use to when I oiled. Isn’t that ironic? My goodness I’m glad I stopped I only apply moisturizing products on my hair strands only.
I completely stopped oiling my scalp and the itching and soreness in the crown of my head has stopped. This also led to hair miniaturization in my crown that has progressed, but not quite bald. I initially tried massaging that area and while I had temporary relief the symptoms always returned. I finally realized that my scalp was inflamed although it wasn’t visibly irritated or flaking.
I had to reflect on my 20-year hair journey to determine when this started when it was worse, and when it was better. I finally realized that when I was relaxed or when I wore my hair straight for an extended period, my scalp did not itch or was not sore because I wasn’t applying oils. My scalp was at its worst when I applied grease multiple times a week and/or oiled the middle more to give it extra “TLC” or so I thought. It was better when I only oiled once a week with a very light oil, but I still experienced itching and soreness eventually regardless of the grease or oil, I’ve used and made all types. So I did a little experiment recently with not oiling my scalp and just like that over 10 years of experiencing these symptoms completely stopped.
My hair never needed oil in the sense of dryness. As long as my hair is moisturized my scalp doesn’t get dry. I only ever used oils for the nutrients they provide. However, I can deliver those nutrients in the form of water-based serums on my scalp. And now I’m focused on regrowing my hair in the crown.
I believe oils and grease were clogging my hair follicles and according to research on this subject clogged hair follicles lead to inflammation. And my theory is that it may be a contributing factor to alopecias like CCCA.
I had to comment right here this is my life right here.
@@ChirleeLawes-lz2kq Wow! At least we know now we are not alone and it’s not an isolated occurrence. I still feel some type of way it took me so long to figure out though.
I believe this. Whenever I apply an oil directly to my scalp or parts, in a day or two it will itch, feel inflamed, or I will get flakes/dandruff. When I shampoo my hair and doing apply anything to my scalp (just the hair) I don’t have this issue
@@kianamoore5390 After watching this video I have stopped oiling my scalp and my scalp is feeling amazing..
I stopped oil my scalp since 3 months ago because I had so much problems as inflammation, burning, itching, and so on. Since then I wash my hair weekly and no more pain. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.❤
Yeah girl, I don’t oil my scalp at all! I did once and it irritated me so much! When I first became natural! That isn’t for me either. My scalp always loved to be clean and fresh. Without anything. I use aloe juice directly on my scalp and that’s it. I can barely put product on my scalp. I try to put it on my roots but not on my scalp if that makes sense, so just on my hair as much as I can and not slathered on my scalp, kinda hard and I don’t pay too much attention to it, but I do make an effort not to put directly on my scalp. Which is why I use the organic tingling shampoo...I find that if I put a lot of product on my scalp, it becomes itchy...I don’t think we all know this, great content girlie! So needed! 🖤also I’ve found with some products that are oily I’ve had a bump here or there...in my scalp...which is from clogged pores on my scalp! Who gets acne in their head, lol...me...I have! 🤣yeah I have to wash after a week! For sure! Awesome content! Your hair is so pretty! You make me want to blow my hair out and do a twist out or braid out! 😍
Girl you ain't saying nothing but a good word honey 🙌🏾 I know about scalp ance I get it every once in a while too! Lol..YESSSS I feel you about trying not to get that hair product on your scalp but trying to keep going up as high as you can to keep the length of your hair moisturized. But goodness I'm glad I can see that I'm not the only one that can't oil/grease their scalp b/c IG is a lie with all of those hair tutorials with ppl oiling their scalp and these 1 hit wonder businesses selling just scalp growth oil only 🙄 Aloe vera juice is BOMB for the scalp! Thanks for the kind words, I did stretch my hair with the hair steamer for this video lol...Thank you Beautiful for watching! 😘
@@artofnia 👊🏾💪🏾🖤💕you’re welcome...anytime!
This happened to me as well ! my scalp can’t handle ANY tension , or oils anymore . I thought it was so strange . The only thing I can use on my scalp is TPH cooling serum now
Thank you so much, i just cryed, finally someone else understands what i am going through. I too cannot oil my scalp.
Oh I know that feeling! I've definitely cried from not knowing what was wrong w/ my scalp when all along it was oil. I'm w/ you 🙌🏾Thanks for watching!
Woah!!! And here I was wondering what was happening to my scalp!!! THANK YOU
Great video! I completely agree with you! I can no longer use oil on my scalp too because it has become so irritated now. People who have a naturally oily scalp do not need to oil their scalp because it can cause itchy and flaky scalp which can lead to premature hair loss.
I agree with you as well. Oiling the scalp is not for everyone. Thanks for watching! 🧡🧡
I’ve been suffering from scalp inflammation and soreness for the last few years. I’m done with oils/grease as of today. This is confirmation. I’m going to keep track of how my hair does without it.
Yesss do a process of elimination of grease and oils from your scalp and track the progress. Good luck!
@@artofnia thanks for replying back to me. New subbie!!
@@SelfTaughtWeightloss awww yw!! Thanks for watching & subscribing 🧡🧡
That's exactly my story. I knew I wasn't crazy .lol
Thank you for this video, it is very informative and helpful. I have been considering a complete stop of oils as I have had the feeling that it could be making my situation worse. Thanks again and wish me luck lol.
I have not greased/oiled my scalp since I was a child. I do not have dry scalp or dandruff. I do wash my hair every two weeks without fail and hair flourishes.
Glad to hear it's all working out well for you by not having a need to oil your scalp 🙌🏾
I’ve been having the same problem. Any oils I put whether natural or the pre mixed ones, my scalp reacts badly to them. I do better with hot oil treatments so I can rinse it out afterwards. Thank you for so much for this video I because I haven’t met anyone with the same problem as me. Your hair is gorgeous by the way!
Yes I'm so happy you found out what works for you! I agree, Hot oil treatments are the BEST 👌🏽 They're a great way to add instant moisture back into your hair immediately especially during the winter time. I appreciate the comment and the kind words 🧡 Thanks for watching!
@@artofnia it’s my pleasure! By the way, I use the Mizani Scalp Care Calming Lotion when I get any irritation or if my scalp feels dry. I can’t live without it :-)
@@thabilemo2305 I've never heard of that lotion b4 😮 good to know. I'm glad it works & Thanks for sharing.
@@artofnia it’s a pleasure. Keep up the good work! ☺️
@@thabilemo2305 Thank you love! ❤️
I stop putting oil on my scalp because it itches right after washing ...now I just sometimes it on my hair strands... my scalp feels 100 % better ...no major itchy scalp anymore and little to no flakes now ....only itchy when about a week pass then I wash but somes I do a cowash because my hair gets a bit dry quicker now that it ready cold...keep a RUclips journal on here to go back and see what is working or not working
We definitely share the same pain points! I'm happy you found out what works for you and what doesn't. I'm sure you was so relieved when you stopped oiling your scalp. Yes my channel will definitely be my hair diary. Thanks for sharing your experience Sis 🥰
My scalp has become extremely sensitive over the years. And my hair became less tolerant of conditioners and other hair products. I'm now only using a shampoo bar and a tiny bit of oil focused mainly on the ends. I'll maintain it in-between washes with wooden combs and a boar bristle brush to keep my scalp clean and keep my hair smooth. I keep it stretched. Haven't had scalp issues in about a month since I started.
I love it! I'm happy to hear you found the right products and hair tools that works well for your hair 😊 Thanks for watching!
This video is old ,but I came across it because I searched up why was my scalp so itchy and irritated after using oil and your video came up. I have very dry itchy/flaky scalp and I decided to do a deep cleanse on my scalp thinking that applying oil after a good wash would do the trick, well I was wrong. My scalp hates any kind of oil and it’s to the point I would itch my scalp so bad it bleeds or I get these terrible acne due to my scalp being clogged up with oil. When I was younger my mother use to put grease on my scalp and that never irritated my scalp maybe I’ll go back to that. And from reading the comments in noticed you mentioned aloe Vera , I’ll try the aloe Vera gel or the actual plant on my scalp as well just to see how it works. But my hair has thrived without anything on my scalp. Also I notice using creams on my hair is better I never get itchy scalp from that. That seems like a better alternative.I recommend hair vitamins that will get your hair healthier. Thanks for this video it really helped me realize why my scalp is so irritated from using oil, I actually read somewhere that oil isn’t really a moisturizer. So I’m not sure why people in the market even sell oil when you’re not really suppose to put oil on your scalp. I’ll definitely only be putting oil on my hair.
Thanks for sharing your background of how oil affects your scalp & your remedies. Everyone's scalp is definitely different & some ppl say they can't live w/o oiling their scalp but I'm like this doesn't work for everyone & we've been conditioned since childhood that it's a must. I'm glad we're all going against the norm & doing what's best for us. Yes exactly oil is not a moisturizer, it's a sealant. I hope the Aloe Vera gel works for you. Thank you for watching!! 🧡
Same. My hair was breaking off at the root because it was so oily and causing itching which was causing breaking. I went to a trichologist and she put my hair under the microscope. The strands were DAMAGEDDDD. She said I should stop oiling my scalp and shave my locs. I said “nah sis. These locs ain’t going no where” but I wanted to try and stop the oils. I washed my hair that night with shampoo and acv and never used oil after. From that day the itching was GONE!
I’ve never used it since and that was over a year ago. No dandruff or dryness.
Wow wow wow you went to a trichologist that's awesome! I'm happy you got to the root of the problem and kept your locs! Thanks for sharing your story 😊
Did you get new hair growth after you stopped oiling?
Yep, it’s thicker than ever now
@@BodyByCamz thank you. I lost a lot of hair. I need it back.
From my social circle, those with scalp issues all oil their scalp. The rest of us do quite fine.
Same here I only pre-poo and then wash it completely out. I also use Dawn dish soap to wash my hair..
I feel like this video was for me to see, it's like as if you were speaking directly to me to stop that crap of putting oil on my scalp, I've been using oils for years right after using shampoo and as a result I believe my pores got super clogged. I will stop using oils and just cleanse and use apple cider sometimes to see if it makes a difference. Hopefully I will get some relief, thank you for making this video 👑. God bless you 🙏🏾
ACV should definitely help you!! Thanks for watching & God bless you too 🙏🏾
I can’t oil my scalp either because I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis. I can use it on my ends and that’s it…
I have no scalp issues but I found my friends who used oil on the scalp have scalp issues. On the very rare occasion I will prepoo with aloe Vera gel and oil and then massage my scalp. I massage my scalp when conditioning.
Oh nice for you 😊 but yes I agree everyone's scalp is different
I don't oil my scalp but I don't use shampoo either. Thank you for your video I think it is helpful to ppl
Happy to hear that you've found out what doesn't work for you 🙌🏾 Thanks for watching 😊
🙋🏾♀️I used to oil my scalp but now at almost 50 my scalp can’t take it. It gets really inflamed and itchy 2 -3 days after
i have craazy issues with growing my hair Nia, i have to keep it low in order to wash it often. I will try the method your using and get back to you THANK You for this video
You're very welcome. Yes best of luck with growing out your hair! Please keep me posted and thank you so much for watching! 🤗
This issue started when braiders started using gel for braids, I've stopped going to these type of braids but ever since then my scalp can't handle any oil
Yup if you noticed your scalp can't handle any oil, your scalp naturally produces enough oil to sustain itself 😊
Yep my scalp makes it’s own grease
I am, so glad to hear your video.
I stopped oiling my scalp and my CCCA has improved oiling your scalp causes scalp disorders and inflammation
Oiling the scalp is bad for the scalp cause it interferes with oir natural oil, sebum, which comes out of our scalps. Even too much sebum can cause hair loss and scalp issues. That is why it is important to wash your hair at least twice a week. Or every two weeks at the longest. Scalp massaging and exercise produces sebum. I love my scalp massager and jump rope.
Thank you for this video!! I saw lots of videos about clarifying scalp and I thought maybe it’s no good to oil my scalp if there’s a risk to blocked my pores!!! You answer my question !!!
Most certainly if you've tried everything and the scalp still feels off, something is suffocating it and I found out it was Oil! Thanks for watching & happy to help 😊
My daughter and I also noticed that our scalp gets inflamed and itchy when using oils
Right both of your scalps produces enough natural oil to sustain itself
I have the same issue unless the oils are pre formulated into the cleansing shampoo I will not add to it
yesss girl exactly, same here. It's still a win for us since we'll be washing the oils right out 😊
@@artofnia yes exactly ! How has protective styling affected this if it has at all I don’t remember you mention it
Were you referring to oiling my scalp with a protective style? If so, I don't lol. My scalp is actually very naturally oily on its own which is why I was having issues adding extra oil on top of it 😩
@@artofnia no I’m referring to your styling products do u use jam ? If so which one ? Do you wash your hair as frequently? And how long do you usually keep them in ?
Oh ok, I actually don't protective style as often as I used to. But when I do, I usually will get box braids installed with hair. I'll only use leave-in conditioner on my regular hair and I always use the crystal orchard biotin gel by The Mane Choice (this stuff is amazing). I leave the protective style in for a month. I'll wash my scalp every 2 weeks with the box braids. If I don't have a protective style, then I usually wash my regular hair every 1 to 2 weeks.
Me Itchy Scalp Queen!!! Today is my epiphany and day ONE of no oil on my scalp after a Luxurious Wash-Day!!!
Yesss I hope everything works out for you!
My scalp itches off and on . I have diabetes and thought it could be scalp neuropathy?? I dk but it drives me crazy.I was using tea tree oil but didn't do a thing.
I'm sorry to hear that 😔 maybe try getting a full blood panel done, an allergy test (sometimes it could be something in the food causing skin issues) and also maybe see a dermatologist. I hope you find a solution!
A lot depends on how you're using the tea tree oil. If it's not well diluted in a carrier oil, chances are high that your scalp will be irritated.
I am also diabetic and when my sugar is high I sometimes develop an itch which disappears as soon as my sugar comes down. It just itches,no flakes or irritation. And the itch is not anything serious. I just cowash and I am ok till my weekly washday. I don't put oils on my scalp at all, never have.
Never oiled my scalp but my hair?? Hell yea my ends loves shea butter and castor oil, avocado and almond oil to seal in the moisture that my natural oils can’t get too. But never giving up oil on my hair
I really hope you can help me . I’m so confused . I had a relaxer (my 3rd and last ever) in may. I big chopped in august. My hair is growing . I wash my hair every weekend. But I have noticed my scalp is so itchy and burns. I have no dandruff. I used. To use oil. I stopped it immediately after I found out when I use oil I itches even more . So I just use shampoo and conditioner and style it with grease on my hair not my scalp. Now I have washed my hair yesterday and now my burns it’s so bad. 😭😭 I don’t know what the problem is . Why it itches. So much now? 😭
You may be allergic to the ingredients in regular shampoo like me. Try to use organic Shampoos, or Dr Bronners Soap, try cleansing your Scalp with apple cider vinegar or bentonite clay. I have videos on Bentonite clay & Dr Bronners Soap. It's going to take a lot of trial and error of different hair products to find out what works best. I highly recommend seeing a dermatologist & allergist as well. I know how frustrating it is! Good luck! 👍🏽
Lastly check out my video on why i cant use regular shampoo anymore. I talk about the harmful & allergy causing ingredients in shampoo
ruclips.net/video/YxAVhf5WQxI/видео.htmlsi=Uuk0_McKhf0CT17M
Thank you. I will try that. 😍
Oils in conditioner or hair mask will be better
I agree 😊 as long as I can wash the oil out if it's added to a product I notice that my scalp is fine
2024 here
Am not the only one thank God
My scalp hates products, i only use oil on my ends, i keep my scalp free of products even after washing it produces way too much oil enough to oil 2 peoples head after 3days😂😂
❤❤❤
