Crazy how $10 got you that many unique pieces back then. The trans red windshield could be use for a M-tron or Black Tron mocs.. great video, keep up the awesome work 👏
They certainly don't make them like they used to! And while that's not an altogether bad thing, I definitely miss sets like this. I hadn't even thought about the space potential here with the parts, but yeah, that would be epic!
At first the thumbnail had me like "what is this weird squid thing?" But after watching I thought the squids design is very creative with it's usage of interesting pieces. Keep reviewing these sets! They are amazing.
It's a funky little set for sure, but I find it oddly successful, especially at that price point! I love these little old kits, so I'm sure you'll see more if I can dig them up!
I really can't put my finger on it, but there is something so magical about Lego sets. It's like you're purchasing a personal world in a box. And, I feel like the further you go back the more the sets display that characteristic. Besides some Ninjago I feel like a lot of sets have lost that wonder and feel more like products than whatever magic this set is. Maybe it's the graphic design or something, but the sets just feel different.
It's LEGO's own original themes I think - there's so much heart and soul in them compared to the licensed replicas we see so much of now. I do miss their creativity.
I can definitely see that. Back in the day I do remember watching interviews with the designers, and they were also so proud of the creations they were sharing. It reminded me of a kid excited about a MOC, and it always made me way more interested in what they were putting out. At least we can make our own worlds, and I can also play with the arrow tube hanger for a smile.
I'm genuinely enjoying these videos. Especially since I get all my Lego from thrift stores, and most of the time, I get a bunch of parts in a bag and then have to go through bricklink and do some detective work to identify the sets and what's missing. I enjoy the process just as much as I enjoy building. Thanks for those reviews!
I remember modifying my set into a normal giant squid by removing most of the exaggerated details and enlarging the eyes and adding the longer tentacles it was a fun experience thanks for reminding me about this set :)
This was one of the first Lego sets I remember getting as a kid. This set alone is responsible for years of Lego related memories. I'm sure I still have all the parts somewhere
I love the intro music for this video! I also like the squid itself. And the figure! I could use that shoulder piece for some sort of batman custom or something like that. Love the vids!
I'd be down for a whole MDS and/or whole 1st wave Alpha Team sets vid - if you can/want to dig the bunch up that is. Something about the aesthetics of AT was always really striking.
That would be awesome. I wish I had more, especially of the Deep Sea stuff, but all I've got are these two for now. I think Ogel's underwater base is really quite special.
I litterly love this channel and i just found out about a minute ago by bricks and pieces last order. also i subbed the fastest on your channel. Keep up the good work!
I'm actually not sure you did get scammed. I had this set and in my copy the piece that you pointed out as not being printed when it was supposed to be wasn't printed on mine either, and that was straight from the official packaging.
Lol when you said you didn’t expect anyone to Immediately rush to brick link and now buy that set I was so called out because I’m literally thinking about trying to buy this set right now and I watched your review for more insight
Ha! You came to the right place. Allow me to introduce you to my mega-review of every Dino Attack set ever made - ruclips.net/video/5CeZK4iPqzw/видео.html
Yeah, LEGO has always been so painfully expensive, and I know many countries have it worse than others. Still glad you could get this one - it's pretty fun for what it is!
Honestly, I could believe anything at this point! Every website says something different, the box says something different - this set is off the rails!
Ogel's lack of printing always bothered me, not because he looks bad without print, but because all the other figures in the line are over-printed. Every little needless detail, too much in my opinion, and then him - nothing. A very weird design choice. I think the style of a theme should be consistent with itself.
@@CheeseyStudios I agree, when Lego first started branching out with printing, they went through some really weird phases. One of the worst offending themes was the original western theme. As much as I love the theme, they used old pirate or castle face prints for half the figures, with simple dot eyes and smiley face for the underlying base, and for the other half they created a whole new style with much too detailed eyes, lips, teeth, etc. I don't mind different styles across themes, but I'm a stickler for consistency.

this man presents rare pieces to the camera like he's in a Wes Anderson movie
I love old Lego sets! They feel so nostalgic! :D amazing video as always! :D
Thank you! There's just something so charming about these.
@@CheeseyStudios I know! Old Lego sets are always so cool to look at! Thanks for making this video! :D

@@CheeseyStudios btw i have very fond memories of playing with classic pirates sets would you consider reviewing some of those?
I wish I had some! I think I've only got one small Islanders set. Of course, I'll always be on the lookout for a good deal!
@@CheeseyStudios ah alright
@@CheeseyStudios btw I really enjoyed the castle review today and your Minecraft series always seems to brighten my day keep up the good work

did not expect the lego masters kid, wow, great, quality videos!

This was a fun theme! There's some pretty cool kits from this wave!
@@CheeseyStudios if you ever got the time I’d love to see some reviews on the knights kingdom sets. I used to have a few of them when I was a kid
Definitely! I almost have all of the first wave, so I might even make a "Revisiting" video on it!
I think you are one of the best lego youtubers out there❤
Really appreciate it, thank you! ❤️
@CheeseyStudios also your videos are so relaxing, and old legos are sooooooo nostalgic and great!!!! Greetings from italy❤️
I actually love the old under water sets also I loved spin to begin the video
Ha, I like to have some fun with these!
Damn I had this set when I was 3 or 4. Absolutely killer set and Ogel is a goated villain
Ogel needs to make a comeback in some way! Imagine if he showed up in a CMF or something
This wasn't my first Lego set, but it was probably somewhere around my second or third. I loved the alpha team theme as a kid.
Diggin the purple! Love the set more. Haha great video!
My LEGO Masters finale shirt xD I love it so much
I love old sets
I know, right?
I litterly love this channel and i just found out about a minute ago by bricks and pieces last order. also i subbed the fastest on your channel. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I'm so glad you ran into the channel. :D
presumably the box counts the helmet and visor as one piece, making the total count 61.
Apparently it's actually the head and torso that count as one, as they came preassembled back then!
DUDE WHY DO U HAVE 7K SUBS WHY THATS NOT FAIR U DESERVE 1M SUBS :)
RUclips's a slow, slow grind
Lol agreed I have only 251 sub:) well I’m happy what I got
Loved meeting you!
Great to meet you too! Enjoy those new sets!
Love that squid. I have it as well as the killer whale, which looks more like a mosasaurus!
I still cannot for the life of me figure out why they called that thing a killer whale - it was great to see those dinosaur pieces repurposed, though!
Ogel’s a great name for a villain. I could see him in a Bond movie, or some medieval fantasy novel.
It does work surprisingly well, doesn't it?
Wow!! I was hoping you would post a new minecraft build but this is good!! I'll be waiting for the minecraft series :)
Glad you still liked! The Minecraft stuff is quite expensive and takes longer to make, so I can't upload it too often - more will come though!
@@CheeseyStudios Oh!! That's fine. Hope to see you in your next video :)
So that's where I got Ogel from... I vividly remember that mini fig, but never knew where he came from. I wonder if I still have him...
He's a really cool fig! Glad he came in so many sets
how do you have so little subs for a master channel like this?!
The RUclips grind these days is a slow, slow one rip
The mutant orca/ mosasaurus is also pretty cool
I'd love to get my hands on that set one say. It's quite bizarre to say the least!
ngl that is a cool set
For its small size, it's quite great!
I remember this set when I was a kid it was a classic
That's great! It is really fun and goofy
amazing
I think this one's pretty special, too!
I was able to get that minifigure in a Lego box on eBay! It’s a cool one!
Just relized I never got a hook on him. Just a black hand
At first I thought you got scammed, but it does look like a hook-less version comes in a few sets! www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?M=alp008&in=S

Thanks fammmmmmm
I owned this set when I was a kid, sadly in Poland Lego was expensive, and even sets like these were a huge deal for kids.
Yeah, LEGO has always been so painfully expensive, and I know many countries have it worse than others. Still glad you could get this one - it's pretty fun for what it is!
Great value, Lego used to have so many good original themes but now all they do is ninjago and licensed themes.
I miss this stuff tremendously. Not perfect, but incredibly creative and fun.
4:04 piece not found 😢 RIP thats a tragic moment to have on camera
I didn't even realize the timing xD
I think it's 63 pieces...Don't ask why...It's 63.

Yo your the dude from lego masters
That's meeee
The horrible realisation that castle isn’t a thing. [insert dearth Vader no]
😪
Well it is 61 pieces, cause your missing the printed tile.. lol
lololol it all makes sense now

It is quite odd. The face prints too feel like different artists were involved. Some of the AT ones from the early waves are really weird 😂
