It Amazes me how much detail lego put into there castles form (1978 - 1983) and that big base plate is very lovely This is definitely a set i would love to get my hands on some day. I am very excited to see that lego brought back a castle for there 90 year anniversary and it sure does look good! Good job on the video Production.
I think it would be great if lego brought back big custom baseplates. They would definitely have to update them to look more detailed and modern but they are a great way to make a set feel much bigger and more worth its price without using tons and tons of bricks.
Indeed. As I kid I just adored these things and loved to build my own MOCs on top of them. I feel like a lot of kids today would definitely still appreciate stuff like this
I think the Pharoah's Quest theme from the early 2010s was the last theme to use one. Shame, they always inspired so much creativity from me when I was younger.
I'm not a fan of baseplates because they have the weird height and no anti studs going on, but they were always fun cause it gives you actual Lego terrain to play with. I think it would be great if Lego introduced a new system to replace it that is made of big plate-type pieces. Imagine 'hill' pieces that are 12x12 plates but with an incline of say 5 studs high (think something like a roller coaster slope piece, but with studs instead of rails, basically like giant slope pieces) I'm sure moc builders would highly appreciate a customizable baseplate system as would any average fan.
One of my many castle sets. The coin pieces came out in the pirate sets of 1989, but previous castle sets used those same yellow pieces so I guess they used them for consistency.
I pray that they will return to this somewhat simpler take on a theme. With raised baseplates and more conventional building, as it feels everything made now has become too specialized with tiny pieces.
Love it! The drawbridge mechanism reminds me of the one from the original yellow castle, it even jams the string between two bricks just like this set, great video can't wait to see what is next!
This was my first larger scale castle set when I was a kid. I still have it, boxed up in a closet. I actually might have all of the 1990 castle themed sets in there. I would have to take a look. There are also a few random ones from years before and after. I always wanted the Black Knights Castle (#6086) back then, but never had it. I was lucky enough to come across the majority of it from one of my first bulk buys a couple years ago. I almost couldn't believe my eyes! I still consider that bulk buy one of the best I've gotten. It's almost like gambling when you buy bulk; you win some, you lose some! 😊
6086 is a beauty for sure! It seems to be pretty wildly regarded as the best LEGO castle of all time. I could probably get behind that! Bulk is a gamble for sure. But you definitely can get some absolutely amazing stuff.
@@CheeseyStudios My husband likes bulk to find sets. I like it to find interesting parts. I want to get into more MOC building, so the more parts, the better, in my opinion! 😊

I shoulda been nicer to Mr. Ghost - he's too cool to be locked up. If you can find this kit for a decent price, I'd definitely recommend it! It's one of the more affordable classic castles.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that the two armored knights also had metal breast plate prints on their torsos. That was common with other knight sets of the time, allowing for mixing and matching. The Black Knight's Castle showcases both styles. Even the lone Black Knight kit did the same.
Aww. Good times! This was towards the end of the castle era for me though I still got the Wolfpack after this.
