Erica sent me here. Been following her for a while. And she doesn't recommend every Joe Smoe that walks thru the door either. I like what I'm seeing here.
I watched your video on the 940 7 years ago, probably a dozen times before I pulled the trigger on one. Still on of my favorite knives. Great video as usual.
I have one of those Benchmade 940’s in S30V and I have a terrible time getting a good edge on it. I pretty much gave up on any kind of fine edge and just use my Spyderco Sharpmaker with the 40 degree edge and the brown stones on the course corners. That’s the only way to get it to shave arm hair on both sides of the blade. Love the knife; hate the edge.
Great video! After carrying my gripptilan and bugout fir the last 7ish years i think its time ti give the 940 a try. Ps ive been carrying a tinker or camper ever since you did a video year's back love having it on me
VG-10 will rust in salt water for sure. I carry lots of Spydercos and The Salt series H-2 knives are the best for rust resistance I saw one that did an around the world sail and it looked all kinds of used but not a speck of rust, but hands down my favorite is the LC200N with any care it will stand up to the ocean and it holds a very good edge. It is a great balance between rust resistance and edge holding.
With the frn Spyderco I learned a long time ago that it's much easier to carry if you bend the clip so there is a small gap between the scales and the clip. Doesn't tear up the pockets as quickly. Also gently sanding down some of the frn under the footprint of the pocket clip
i hit mine lightly with a buffing wheel to soften them up some, and while I was there softened the spine and corners of the jimping and the edgese of the pocket clip. it is way nicer now :}
thank you for the kind words! i think there are a few left on my website. or if you want something special, you can drop me a line on the contact me page.
@@joecalton1449 haha it won’t be any time soon brotha haha. Got bills to pay and house hunting. You know how it goes I’m sure. Definitely on my grails list though.
it seems to be a cool knife. I took it on that trip. but it was a double red flag day so we were not allowed to swim with it. the little use that I did with it, opening packages and cutting strings and the tags off our bags and such it did well. i think it will be a beater knife for me. while it seems nice, the midlock isnt something that I am used to anymore, and the thumb hole instead of a thumbstud is akward in my hands. and the blade, while a good thickness, and beautifull grind, is too wide for my taste. so while it is a nice knife, it will not be replacing my benchmade 940 for my everyday carry.
I was really hoping you’d do this for us Joe! YAY!!!🎉🎉🎉 Thank you brother!!!❤
thank you for asking, it was a fun video :}

thank you for the kind words! and great to hear that you are enjoying yours!
Man, so cool you put a 1095 blade in a benchmade. I’d prefer that over the super steels. Very cool man
thank you. it has been a nice blade so far :}

both are great choices! and the 940 is my favorite large folder.
That's an awesome slipjoint. Brass and bone go so well together
thank you! yes, I think they do also.

i will pay close attention and see what happens, and then will strip it down afterwards for an inspection :}
Agree on Spyderco FRN handles are sharp.
i hit them with a buffer the next day and softened them up a bit :}
Love my 940. Wouldnt trade it for anything. Ive got it surprisingly sharp on the work sharp sharpener.
the 940 is a heck of a companion that is for sure!
Good video and good content.
Glad you think so!
@@joecalton1449 I also think you have a really good talent.

I also always add a sharpening choil but that does end up making the knife hang up on fibrous material but it's a fair trade off for me

nice! some folks like those and to each their own :}
I love Spyderco CTS BD1N series of knives and the price is pretty decent so if you lose it, not the end of the world.
i just looked them up, lower price, liner lock, sounds pretty nice to me.

I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts on the Endura after you spend some time with it.

Just checked out your site. Beautiful slipjoints. Emailed you a long time ago about a knife and never got a response.
sorry I didnt respond. i try to keep up on my emails, but sometimes one slips through. you can send me one again please.
Never owned a spyderco?!?!?! Well ya picked a good one!
