Not a ZR2 owner (Z71 Duramax), but I'm under the impression that a semi-common issue with the ZR2s is the inner tie rod starting to unthread from the steering rack.

looking forward to watching the ZR2 in future vids. I have a 22' refresh trailboss with the 3.0 duramax and the engine/transmission has been awesome. 30s on the highway even with the TB trim. If my family wasnt growing, I would have gotten the same thing, ZR2 duramax. hows the mpgs been in the 2.8? Im on the east coast so i definitely feel the trail whale pain amongst the trees in a fullsize!

Aside from the emissions system on diesels, these little duramax engines are great! I've been getting around 27 mpg on the highway with 34 inch tires. Gonna clean the nox sensors and put some fresh DEF in it to see if my mpg improves. As far as size goes, it's definitely a downgrade from the Trail Boss but its more capable in every way even compared to the 1500 zr2. More weight = getting stuck in snow or mud easier plus the smaller size will definitely get me through tighter spots.

@@thetrailoutthere I think 27 mpgs, lifted on 34s and the ZR2 trim is excellent. I’m not sure if cleaning the sensors will help or not, but it’s worth a shot. Fortunately the 2.8 has been around awhile and there’s decent aftermarket support for engine/exhaust/tuner mods compared to the 3.0. I’ll be interested to see how the emissions systems handle any regens while off road/non highway speeds for extended periods of time. Good luck!
