- Welcome back to Assetto Corsa on Low Fuel Motorsport! Today I’m returning to the Mazda MX-5 Cup at Cadwell Park.
I’ve never driven this circuit until today, and it’s proving to be a very steep learning curve. Just when you think you’ve found every way to crash, this track comes up with a new one for you.
I’m worried I won’t survive the full 20 minutes but, if I do, I might be in with a chance of my first Assetto Corsa LFM podium - I’ll be starting from P3, which is my best qualifying performance in quite some time.

Really nice to see you in some tense racing just after surviving Cadwell myself on LFM. Love the track, its like one of these Mario Karts tracks, with the giant flesh eating flowers that all of a sudden pick you of the the track and spit you out again, when you least expect it😅
Hahaha yeah exactly that! I did more practice than I usually would, and pretty sure I crashed at every corner on the track 🤣

Thanks Eric. I did have quite a bit more track time than usual to practice for this. It was mr third attempt at the race… I got wrecked early in the first two, so after a pit stop, I had lots of time driving around on my own at the back!
I feel for you...I really do. So sorry for your misfortune there. However, if it makes you feel any better, you're a braver man than I. As soon as I saw Cadwell Park on the schedule, I knew I wouldn't be participating. Deadly track with tons of treacherous corners and bends with no room to pass anywhere. No, thank you! You still had a decent finish, but disappointing for sure. better luck next time. Thanks for the content and reaffirming that I made the correct choice :)
You definitely chose wisely… this was my third attempt at it! The first two, I didn’t survive 5 minutes either time after getting blasted out into the barriers. I thought I’d give it one final attempt, and luckily got to the finish. But I’m definitely quitting while I’m ahead. No more Cadwell for me this week!
You should try driving it in real life in the wet 😅 it's sketchy as fuck

@@chrisrogerssimracing it's good fun tbf, there's tends to be a river across the track just before coppice which isn't great. Hall bends tend to be slippery, I went across the grass after the left last time I was there 😅 barn is just like driving on ice untill it's completely dry

Mine too mate. I was brought up on bike racing, and Brands was always the place to be during the Fogarty World Superbikes era. Since then, it’s always been my favourite race track 😃
Man, that was so unlucky. Been there. 6 seconds in the lead at Watkins Glen then threw it away on the penultimate lap. But all in all, that was an impressive drive. I've only driven Caldwell once in a community race and it's got to be one of the trickiest circuits out there. The lesson I learned, and hope you have, is that this late in the race, you need to go into race management mode. No point going hell for leather if there's only a slim chance of getting a better result.
That is absolutely the lesson I’ll learn! It was such bad judgement. Even if I had got closer to him, there’s no real overtaking opportunity through that final section. So it certainly wasn’t worth the risk to push!

Well that didn't go as planned haha. Qualified 8th but messed up the start. Finished 9th back from 18th and last.
Unfortunately my virtual rear view mirror disappears in race mode. It's a bit unsettling. All the best.

Yeah, to be honest I felt on the edge for most of the race! So as soon as I started pushing that extra 1% harder, it was never going to end well!

Cheers mate, yeah that’s the strange thing… I’m never usually that competitive with pace! Only reason I can think of, is Cadwell is probably a new track for most sim racers, so I’m at less of a disadvantage through lack of track time! Thanks mate
The same thing happened to me yesterday! I actually got to do the last lap with a broken suspension and the car pushing to the right lol it's a tight margin of error and playing on a controller seems to make this margin even smaller but it's been awesome. I'm enjoying LFM so much! Great video!

Haha, so did I, Dave! Still not quite sure how I managed to blow it. Its such an unforgiving track… even the smallest mistake will have big consequences. Good luck in your race, if you decide to try it!
😞 Shame about that last lap. We've all been there, too often in my case. I've driven Cadwell Park in an F4 car (FF1600) many years ago. It is really narrow and very difficult to get right. I remember discovering on the last lap of my race that if you can hook up your inside front wheel really tight into turn 1, the camber holds the car and you can get a lot more speed ( a slight lift only). Otherwise, the rest of the circuit is down to practice - lots of it.
Ahh it must be terrifying in real life. It was stressful enough on AC! I watch a lot of British Superbikes, and it’s always a crazy track for those guys too
The F4 cars had slick tyres in those days; it was pretty quick. If not terrifying, it certainly grabbed your attention for sure.
Well we've all been there, often when i'm in similar situation, i say to myself "oh come on, you're trying too much" 😂
btw my best result with ac at lfm so far was P2 in second split with lmp3 @ le mans - made it to P3 on merit (mostly because people in front kept on crashing themselves out :) ) - and with 3 laps to go the guy in P2 got drivethrough, so unexpected bonus for me :)

Cracking race though, mate. Good, smooth pace at Cadwell Park is difficult at the best of times, but you smashed it here.... Apart from the last lap, where the only thing you smashed was your bodywork on the tyre wall 😂

Ahhh thank you mate, yeah I never stay feeling frustrated for long. It’s still a top 5, which I would happily have taken before the race!
My 1st and only race in LFM AC was at Mugello. First race, so it was an easy lobby where I had a comfortable lead going into what I'd calculated to be the last lap. Didn't take enough fuel and wasn't far enough ahead to basically stop before the Finish line for time to run out.
Tried to get a screen cap of the ridiculousness of what I'd done, but when I hit Print Screen I forgot that GeForce makes you select another option on How you want to Copy which means my screen was effectively locked. By the time I grabbed the mouse and got it selected, I'd totalled my car on the straight while watching 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc pass.
Easy lobby and should have been an easy win.

Yeah, in hindsight I definitely shouldn’t have pushed like that on the last lap. There was very little, if anything, to gain from it. Still enjoyed the race though 😃

PS: have you tried out kyalami yet? compared to Suzuka it feels like wreckfest the way some people behave on the narrow parts of the track, especially at the start

Thank you, that chase cam idea was suggested to me by a viewer of my last video, I thought it was a good idea to try. I’ve not tried Kyalami on ACC this week. Believe it or not, I’ve never driven it so it would need some learning! So thought I’d give that race a miss this week. I may do the longer race at Spa though 👍

Ahh mate, it’s absolutely fantastic. I’m a big British Superbikes fan, so know it well from watching that. But this is the first time I’ve taken it on in a sim. It’s intense, to say the least!
@@chrisrogerssimracing I first tried it in the original Project cars and got a mod for ac ever since. So nice to hot lap because you can always find time every lap.
Great track in the MX5 did my first race on it last night on LFM got P3, must have another crack at it tonight. Really good fun.

Nooooo, watched that podium disappear in slow motion as that backend decided it wanted to have a go being a frontend. Are we seeing the tyres dropoff at the end of these AC MX5 LFM races, or is it just my imagination and lack of concentration?
I think in this case, it was just a careless error on my part! I had the exact same spin a couple of times on new-ish tyres during prectice… it’s an off-camber corner and so easy to lose the rear with just a touch too much speed!
Unlucky at the end mate i did the same thing today i really don't like the mountain part also what tyre pressure you running ???
Yeah, I had that exact spin a couple of times in practice, so it’s not like I wasn’t warned. As for the tyres, this is the first race I’ve changed them from default. I added two clicks for each tyre, so it was 27psi hot. Someone told me last week to aim for that.

@@chrisrogerssimracing cheers Chris. I hope you do a lot more LFM stuff, there's not much out there yet. I actually found the Cupra a lot better to throw round Cadwell because of the kerbs. I'm still slow as you like, but never feel like I'm going to spin out
Hey, Chris, I have a few questions about LFM on AC. I thought you could choose between different classes/combos of cars/tracks, but I only see Season 12 - Green Hell which is a GT3/4 car on the Nordschleife. No Mazda MX-5 and such. Is the calendar fixed for a certain type of cars/track combos for a month or so?
Ahh yes, it’s the week between seasons, this week. Season 12 finished on Sunday, and they usually have a break of 1-2 weeks before starting a new season. So race options will be limited this week, but all the usual series will return in a week or so when Season 13 starts 👍

Using SOL or Pure for your graphics and how do you make the replay brighter ?
Yeah, so the dark replay was really bugging me with my early videos, but I found the solution. In the replay, if you open up the Sol Weather app from the right menu, you’ll see a load of + and - buttons that you can use to change the time of the day. It also runs dad today’s date, so I’ve found it gets even brighter if you jump forward through the dates as well, and move it to summer time. Hope that helps!

@@chrisrogerssimracing I also have the same 2 problems as also w/ Oulton Park. W/ OP I don't have the problem of not a tight enough turning radius w/ my preferred wheel settings that I do w/ CP in the hairpin.
