Assetto Corsa | PLEASE! Just One More Lap! LFM Mazda MX-5 @ Hockenheim

- Welcome back to Assetto Corsa on Low Fuel Motorsport for another crack at the Mazda MX-5 Cup. Last time out, I threw away a guaranteed podium on the very last lap at Cadwell Park… can I can redeem myself at Hockenheim today?
A podium may be a step too far here, because I’ve qualified down in P12. However, I’ve not really had any practice time for this one and, given that I usually go pretty well at Hockenheim, I’m confident I can find some extra pace as this race goes on.
But will it be enough to compete for a top 10? Let’s find out…

Great commentary once again. Always exciting, really drags the viewer in. Don't change.👌 "The meat in a Rogers sandwich!" Great stuff.
Haha thank you mate. Glad you enjoyed it!
What a real crackin race there Chris!!! Congrats on a great drive and a great finish, your gettin better and better!!!! Thanks for sharing w us!
"the meat in a Roger's sandwich" lol so funny and disturbing at the same time.
Hahaha 🤣
Super Video!! I love watching you progress and I love you allowing insight into your thoughts processes
My pleasure! Yes, this race was a little quieter for on-track action so it allowed me the time to explain my thinking a bit more than I sometimes can 😃 cheers
2:22 That was me. And that must have one of my worst starts in my sim racing career. Was sleeping at the start, hit the sausage curb at the inside of T1, went sideways in that fast righthander and went over the long sausagecurb before the last corner . So in 1 lap from P4 to P14. And in the end I finished P16🤣
And I like your videos. Always very nice to watch and I love the commentary. Keep up the good work.
Good to hear from you mate. Yeah I hate starting on the inside at Hockenheim, as there’s no easy way to avoid that T1 kerb. Sounded like a bit of a nightmare race for you! And big apologies if I butchered the pronunciation of your name during commentary 🤣
@@chrisrogerssimracing the pronunciation was pretty good. So you don't need to apologize for that.
Thanks for the video, love the enthusiasm in the commentary.
Seeing you run around with stock tyre pressures is painful 🤦♂ The right hander after Mercedes is 100% absolutely flat. The corner appears tight on entry but the exit opens out. Just believe, I promise its flat 👍👍👍
Yeah, that was the one part of the track that was stopping me from doing some REALLY good times. I just felt the car was at risk of sliding without a slight lift there. Sadly I didn’t get the practice time to push it and find the limits. It took me until the last lap to even take Mercedes in 3rd 🤣 what should optimum hot tyre pressures be in this car… 27psi?
@@chrisrogerssimracing 27 or 28 work fine. I tend to run 28 on the inside wheels (clockwise/anticlockwise) as they come in faster and stay in for longer. If you feel it wanting to slide through turn 10 just open the wheel up and let it run wide early. There is so much space on the exit you can preserve your speed.
Nice racing man! You are getting scary fast!
Funny how you went from the "I like to play it safe" guy, to "It's the last lap, I need to overtake 3 cars now" guy :D
You start seeing blood in the last minutes of the race haha! that is completely the opposite of what I usually do. I push hard at the start, and then try not to risk it all in the final couple of laps...assuming I haven't crashed earlier already.
Hahaha yeah, how times change 🤣I’ll always say that playing it safe is most important, first and foremost. The ability to be more aggressive will come naturally with track time. I’ve been getting more track time this past month or two, and I’m feeling a lot more confident as a result. Good luck with your races 😃
As the title says Chris, just one more lap!! Great result though.
Thank you. With the extra pace I found through that race, I entered the next one with high hopes but got wiped out on lap 1 🤣
Another great video. I’ve raced this series and track with a few of these gents but haven’t yet been lucky enough to find you in one of my races. Would be fun to see you in a future mx5 cup race! Love the content!
Nice one, keep looking out for my name. I only tend to get on for 1-2 races each week, as and when I get a free hour. I’m sure our paths will cross soon!
Great Racing Chris unlucky at the end - great lap
Thank you mate. I actually think it might be the best lap I’ve ever driven - just a shame the marginal off-track at T1 spoiled it!
Bloody brilliant race mate 🇦🇺
Thank you mate, cheers for watching!
Great video and commentary as always,i hope to race with you.I don't have qualifying speed but decent race pace.I have 2.04.5 now but i have no actua time for practice and races often.
Nice one, yeah keep an eye out for me on the LFM entry lists… hopefully we’ll be on the same grid soon!
Hi Chris! Nice Race! Im a Split 1 on Madza and i win some races here! My best lap is 2:00.500. If you want we can do a training session togheter. I want to try to tell you my tips. I think you can improve a lot in a less time because your drive style is nice! Let me know. Keep Driving 🏆 We can use LFM pratice servers 😊
Mate, thank you. I just saw your message on LFM… I’ll get in touch properly on there 👍
@@chrisrogerssimracing Yeah! Just let me know 😊
Posting a 2:02.6 while being that aggressive is great driving. Like you said Chris, with a little more practice and a better starting position it would have been a different race. The bit at the beginning about the other Rogers driver made me laugh....an entertaining race from start to finish!
Cheers, yeah I really found my rhythm in those final few laps. I actually think that very last lap might be the best lap I’ve ever driven… it was only the very slightest track infringement at T1 that spoilt it. I did actually try a second race and quite fancied my chances, but I got wiped out on lap 1 🤣
Great seeing you battling so well. 👏
Thank you Tony. I’m making a long overdue RaceRoom return next week… signed up to a league to bash some doors in the BMW M235i 👍
Great race and commentary! I'm fairly new to Sim Racing, (1year under my belt) and your channel.
I think MX 5's are some of the best 'edge of your seat' racing on the planet.
You almost had em!
I am subscribing.👍
Nice one mate, thanks for the sub and welcome to the channel! I hope my videos have inspired you to get out on track and enjoy it!
MEAT IN A ROGERS SANDWICH
bawhahaha too good
🤣🤣
fantastic racing and commentary as always. . .the murray walker of sim racing commentary for sure , really enjoy this content 🙌 Thanks again 🍻
It’s my pleasure mate, thank you for watching!
Great race again and a brilliant finish
Have to say I already loved your commentary but I also admire it too now, recently started to make videos myself and that is the hardest bit for me... Practice makes perfect though 😂
Oh nice one, I’ve just checked your channel and see you’ve got a few up. I’ll check them out later 😃
Hi Chris. Great vid as always. I ran this race today, it was so clean and fun. Not one car on car accident. I started 11th and finished 7th.
Excellent finish! Its great when you get a nice clean race like that
CR at Hockenheim is always a good showing. Nice run :)
Thank you, yeah always one of my favourites. I think the last lap here was the best lap I’ve ever driven around Hockenheim. Shame the track limit breach wiped the lap time out!
great race Chris
Thank you mate 😃
The best Sim Commentator!
You’re very kind, thank you 😃
With that colour scheme Phil must be a relation 😉
Busted. Ages ago, I went to stay with Uncle Phil when I got in one little fight and my mum got scared 😉
@@chrisrogerssimracing I think you mentioned he lived in the States, Bel Air? 😁
FYI Chris. The dark green areas at the side of the track have the same properties as the grassy areas and will slow you down. Just take a look at the delta when you're driving on it and you'll see. 👍
Ahh thanks, that would have been costing me a few tenths then. I’m used to making the most of those green patches on other sims. Cheers for the heads-up!
I like how these cars feel, good race!
By the way, while racing I have spikes of around 200 ping: do your have any tips for settings that may get them down? Unfortunately, I'm on WiFi and can't do anything about it specifically, but maybe there's something on CM I don't know of.
Ahh yeah, you’re always at risk of a ping spike if you’re wireless and can’t use a cable. The only thing I can suggest is to try not to have any other devices connected or streaming while you race. Also, your PC may have an internet setting to prioritise gaming connections over other connections… that’s always worth a shot
@@chrisrogerssimracingThanks, I'll see how it works out. Anyway, always a pleasure to watch your videos, keep up and good luck for the next races!
Not the best suited track for these cars but still good racing 👍🏻
Yeah you’re right. I’ve had lots of good runs at Hockenheim, but most have been in open-wheelers - seems to be much better suited to them.
Great race. Are you using h-shifter to drive the car ?
No mate, sadly not, I just use auto-shift with the paddles on my wheel. I don’t have a sim rig, so have to just drive with the basics at my work desk. Amateur hour 🤣🤣
@@chrisrogerssimracing Ohh thats fine mate 😄 What wheel/base do you have?
The meat in a Roger sandwich 🤣 Any chance of you making announcements as to when you're going to race in LFM in advance? Would be great to be able to jump into a race with you.
Ahh mate, yes I’d love to. Trouble is, I don’t often get chance to plan when I’m going to race in advance… usually I just do last-minute sign-ins when a free hour suddenly presents itself! However if I do know for certain I’m going to be online at a specific time, I can add a post to the Community tab 👍
@@chrisrogerssimracing That would be great, especially for ACC.
Are you using a shifter or do you use auto and paddles? I think the shifts are much quicker with shifter but I keep missing gear changes
Yeah I use the auto setting with my paddle shifters on the wheel. I suspect manual shifting is a lot quicker… but also a lot harder to master! I tried to teach myself heel-and-toe techniques in the early days but found it too tricky
@@chrisrogerssimracing yeah I know! I'm fighting on in rookie class. I think I will try manual in the next race because I'm a lot quicker on training like that. Thanks for the answer and keep up the good work!
Should those tyre temps be blue? If not is there something that can be done in the setup?
Yeah there would definitely be some setup tweaks to improve tyres… I tend to just run default because I don’t get the chance to try anything different. I think 2 of them will always stay fairly cold due to the nature of the track… predominantly right-handed turns!
much prefer the mx5 in assetto to IR.
Anyone got any set up advice? I'm not so good at tuning yet
Likewise! Adding a bit of tyre PSI is shout the extent of my setup knowledge!
I was in this split, albeit well off the pace.
Ahh nice one, good to share a grid with you. Hope the racing was decent for you too. Pace doesn’t matter if you can find a good battle to get stuck into 😃
@@chrisrogerssimracing the racing was great, looking forward to hoping back on over the weekend
he really need to consume less sugar
🤣🤣
😁⛽💪👍👌😊🍺❤️🎁
A Friday morning 🥇 for you!
@@chrisrogerssimracing ❤️ thanks Chris. Hope u have a great weekend with lots of podiums.
Not really an exciting combo. So sick of this track and car and can only say "thank you" to raceroom for that 😅
Haha. I always say the same about Zandvoort… felt like I exhausted that track on RaceRoom rookies 🤣
Imma disagree.
These cars are a riot imo
