    "Formex" is the brand name of a big termite insecticide where I live so I don't know if I could get past the name. The insecticide is a lot more affordable though.

      maybe Formex is trying to sound a little bit like Rolex perhaps.

    • @hackmechanic
      @hackmechanic 4 года назад +1

      I agree 100%. Even if it wasn't the name of an exterminator, it's really a terrible name for a watch company. I have a Lum-Tec watch and it's a great watch but the name and the graphic design given to their branding is kind of cheesy. And as good as it is in every other way, the bad Lum-Tec graphic and name is hard for me to deal with. In my opinion, Formex as a name is even worse and their . It's a shame because it looks like a good watch other than the bad name and terrible logo. Seriously, you spend all that money R&Ding a pretty smartly designed watch, why not pay some punk first year graphic designer and a marketing student a couple of bucks to come up with a good name and logo instead of getting some investor's nephew to make the crap that's on that not cheap watch now?

    • @Mister_Phafanapolis
      @Mister_Phafanapolis 4 года назад +2

      Formex is no more or less stupid of a name than Rolex. Unfortunately for Formex, they don't have a hundred years and billions of dollars of marketing behind their name.

    I like Formex. My preference would be the stainless steel model. My friend has one and he especially like the comfort and toughness of the watch. I also don't get the complaints about the name. For me, it creates an image sports precision.

    I have the blue non cosc but with a 2824 movement and love it. The clasp extends not as much as the strap but its a great feel and fit for my 8 inch wrist. I need to get the strap which I hope they eventually get more colors.

    Formex is such a special watch making company, their products are very innovative and not overpriced. I have got a 'standard' version with blue sunbust effect dial on a rubber strap. Phantastic quality and the standard ETA 2824-2 movement in mine actually runs better than this COSC certified version, mine is running very consistently at just under +3 seconds a day. And the company owner is a very kind multi-lingual an very responsive young man. I recommend to use the chat on their website to get in touch when you're interested in their watches. Great review video Jody! 👍

    So i have this exact watch for maybe 3-4 years now, wearing it allmost daily, because at the beginning i wear it because its the most comfortable watch i ever own. Later i want to reduce things and this watch the watch that stays home :D No dust or sand cause me any problems ever. I was worried of the STP movement but as of now have no problem with it, running about +1-2s/day from the start without regulation. The clasp is also gamechanger because of the easy adjustment. I like my watch tight but not too tight and this clasp I can adjust in 5s multiple times a day. I also like the logo on this older version better then the newer one since it fit with the watch, but thats personal. Also one plus for me is that the case dont show any wear from normal use or from my habit of banging the watch on the door frame :D

    Considering how much comfort and horology you get for your money, I’ll gladly that laundry detergent logo. The dealbreaker, however, is the STP movement. That movement is notorious for mainspring failure and crown stem/hand-winding faults. A number of Zodiac owners have been burned by the STP.

    • @EricSloferwatchreviews

      @chi-towncalifornia5916 4 года назад

      @Paul Wieringa It's understandable to be taken aback by my complaints about the STP, but it is not a good copy of the ETA 2824 at all. My friend's barely used Zodiac Super Sea Wolf with an STP 3-13 had a jammed crown, and when he tried to handwind it, the mainspring exploded, completely destroying the movement. He purchased a Sellita SW-200 out of pocket, had his watchmaker install it no fuss into the case, cannibalized the intact STP rotor, which fit right onto the Sellita, and now the watch runs better than standard. The moral is pick your ETA 2824 variant wisely.

    Love the straps and clasp. That's fantastic. Hate that it's running so slow. Would rather see a +4 than -4 that would make me crazy. Can't believe they sent it out like that. I'd send it back and ask it be adjusted.

    • @leland303
      @leland303 Год назад

      COSC is -4/+6 up to 10 seconds and tested in several positions and temperatures. All of the positions are taken into account when regulated. The position not tested is the 12 o'clock up. The watch may run faster in one position, slower in another. So using it throughout the day, the watch keeps more accurate time because of being regulated to several positions, and it having to be accurate within a couple seconds from position to position...not just dial up.

    I agree it looks great and wears good too. I can pull off a 43 but been honest 41-42 is better, thin and light though so scores well there. Perhaps it’s a bit too stealthy or subtle. Perhaps one to pick up used in the future but the steel one as well falls into that category. 😃

    I think you missed the boat here Jody. I can see why you don't love this watch, the dial looks absolutely cold and sterile. The name (although it sounds like a cross between a 1950's bug spray and a 'little rubber thingy we can put on our John Thomas') I could live with, but for $1800, I really want to love the overall watch, not just respect it. I checked the website, and here's where I think you missed it, that blue fume with the blue sailcloth strap, holy moly what a beauty! Plus, you would have saved $200.00! The blue is the one I would respect AND love!

    I have to say, Formex is a brand that I have on my shortlist. While I agree that their name logo is rough, I am like you that I love the tech. I really like the modernity in its aesthetic. Wondering what their logo update will look like. I could easily see them using the F stylistically as their brand symbol going forward. I own a Damasko that I love because of the technical innovation and the austere pilot look. I actually think that the Formex has a sporty elegance in its case shape. I’m a sucker for technical specs too...

    First off, i'm a big fan Jodi, excellent channel. I really like the watch on paper. One big hurdle for me is weight, i do not like heavy watches, because i own one of the heaviest, the Victorinox INOX diver, 203 grams !! It's a lovely watch, built like a tank, but i often it sits due to the weight of it. I have pretty much moved to G-Shocks, weight, and day, date and solar powered. I really love my G-shocks, and can't find a reason to part from them. But... i have this itch... so my journey to find an automatic continues. It's an easy itch to scratch, a nice 38 mm Marathon with Tritium, but i don't have that kind of money to spend :( Until then i'll keep watching your channel.

    I think if Formex had a better style on the Dial with FMX and a different style writing would make it better. It's nice, but I can understand looking at it. Looking at the Zolos Swordfish, seeing the case shapes has that look that makes you love it. I just bought a Swordfish because I just loved its looks and Titanium case and bracelet made me want something in that style. I was going to get A Phoibos with the Meteorite dial but all sold out. As you said, there's a lot of things very positive about this watch on paper and in person. But, I think it still could be even better in a slightly smaller size. I'm still not convinced about the suspension system. I really wouldn't consider it a true shock absorbing system. The way it's designed just doesn't function for shock absorption in my humble opinion. However, I do believe it looks like it would aid in the comfort factor in allowing some give and flex when a watches tight on wrist as you've demonstrated. If there is any marketing material that says that that works for shocks absorption, personally I would change it to just say that it's simply assist in the comfort and wearability of the watch instead. As that's what it truly does more than any sort of practical shock absorption

    I find that watches you love have a honeymoon phase. Then after you own for a long time you know if you still are happy with. Sometimes you buy a watch you are gaga over and then later it's eh. Then there is the watch you like a lot that over time you like more. I liked my Oris pro pilot when bought. But didn't feel gaga. Now it's one of my favorites.

      "Durex -- Formex"
      "Durex- Rolex"
      Hmmmm... which pair is more similar...? Both phonetically and regarding the number of letters? Why this is no issue with The Crown?
      I think it all comes down to accustoming. We got used to "Rolex" and associate it the "right" way. We will eventually get there with Formex, too. If we want so.
      Plus, that strange connotation to condoms, detergents, plumbing hardware or whatever is not that big of an issue in continental Europe. Seems most of the complaints regarding that come from english speaking countries.
      I'm looking forward to my Steel Meteroite Essence (with less eye-catching black logo ;-)), so I will be able form my very own opinion.

      @@JustOneMoreWatch It's a really terrible name for a watch company, plus I'm surprised there hasn't been an intellectual property law suit yet. For a made up word it sure has a lot of presence on the internet...
      www.formexmetal.com/ www.formexsupply.com/ www.formex.se/?sc_lang=en www.formex.es/ www.professionalplastics.com/FormexGK_Sheets www.formex.com/ www.itwformex.com/DesktopModules/Bring2mind/DMX/Download.aspx?EntryId=59 www.pl-tek.com/imgs/pdf/formex.pdf wenonah.com/TFormex-Canoes.aspx www.formexllc.com/
      And a formally acknowledged acronym:
      acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/FORMEX
      Yes, probably a brilliant watch, and your review is inspiring, but the name is very offputting. I'm having a hard enough wearing my Glycine which sounds like something you put in your car to stop your engine block from corroding from the inside out. Formex as a name is a deal breaker for me.
      Rolex has been around since 1905. Surprisingly, Durex has been around since 1915. Formex came to be in 1999. The name is a contraction of "forme extreme" which is "extreme shape" in French. I don't think any of the Formex watches I've seen are "extreme" in "shape." Nice watch. Bad name. Bad graphic. Good review. Not going to buy one, even if they were on sale at 75% off. Can't do it.

    I think the magic factor could be slow - release, as it is so comfortable... that said I’m just not that patient. Too many watches, too little time!

    Handsome piece and I love the level of tech and spec. I'm not as wrapped around the axle as others seem to be about the name and logo. It's a lot better than Crestical! 😆

    Would fully falling in love with a watch end the chase of getting just one more watch? We can't have that happen!! Haha. I remember a review where you joked about that. I believe it was a Pagani. Great review! The price makes this one slightly easier to pass today 👍.

    I'm from Ireland so the harp is a good image to use, and I like taking pictures so I think I'll name my microbrand... Harpic!
    It's a shame the name is such a meme because they seem like a solid company that try to innovate. It's a great looking watch but as you mentioned, the hands are very thin for my liking.

    Really nice watch, although a bit oversized for my wrists. The meteorite dial/carbon combo is pretty slick though, as is the carbon dial. Killer clasp. The slots on the blued rotor screws seem a little mangled though :S

    Much like Christopher Wartd the name has been debated to death (indeed the new CW compressors have the logo / name at 1200) other than that and as you say ever so slightly better hands, something similar to those found on many Sinn's would be fantastic. Other than that this could easily go from shorts and sweats to a more formal application in the blink of an eye.

    Great review, my question is, if you got rid of it, would you regret it? I love my lightest watch because sometimes wrist fatigue sets in but I still want to wear a watch! It’s far from fancy but gets the job done.

    Pierre Paulen , FOD (both Merkur's sub brand), Echo/Neutra and Pagani Design

    Is there an homage to an 80's seiko 5 out there either quartz or automatic? Maybe homages of quartzes when quartz was king? If i could have any watch in the world it would be thecone i lost. It was an 80's seiko 5 quartz that was an homage to a rolex datejust, perfect feel on the wrist, somehow many seikos don't feel right on the wrist anymore to me, i guess because i had the bwst one and lost it.
