  • In this video I use the OM1 to photograph birds at a reflection pool. The lens I use for the video clips is the 40-150mm F2.8 + MC14 converter. For the still images I use the 100-400mm zoom. In the first part of the video I show how I set up the reflection pool , and in the second part I show video and stills of the birds I photographed.

    Dazu oder deswegen gehen viel in den Zoo oder Tierpark, da hat man die Chance näher an die Tiere zu kommen, aber ob es natürlich aussieht sei dahingestellt. Mir sind allemal die echten Natur-Habitat-Fotos am liebsten, Äste oder Grashalme gern dabei. Aber in Natura ist es eben sehr viel schwieriger als mit einer Anfütterung.

    Your videos are so inspiring. Such a joy to watch. I shall certainly try a smaller pool version! With the reflection pool photos, do you add a polarising filter to your lens? Plus do you use back button focus?

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  Год назад

      Thanks for the kind comment about my videos. I am glad you like them and find them helpful. I do not use a polariser for this type of photography. You would loose too much light if using a polariser for this type of photography. I would use a polariser for landscape photography, but not bird photography. I never use back button focus. I have tried it in the past but never found it much use. I honestly think that with bird subject detection being so good back button focusing is no advantage. Hope this helps.

    Very nice Roger, you could drop the turf over the hump just into the water, after a short time it looks fine and it keeps the turf square watered, if you would like to shoot bigger birds you need to get taller , The starlings and pheasants although nice are a pain. Now you have finished the pool best make a start on that kitchen :-)

    I have a very similar pool, several days a week the logs were on the floor, my thoughts were a cat after the birds, so I put a camera trap out to check, I was amazed to see that it was the pecker rooting around for bugs, a seriously strong bird, so now the logs are tied down.

    Another fantastic video Roger. One thing that has bothered me about the reflection pool - do you have to drain it at the end of the day or do you leave the water for a day or two? I know I have to clean out my bird bath multiple times a day right now so I wonder what you do for preventing bacteria etc. I love to see the slowed footage of the birds as it feels more like the eye really sees things. Thanks Roger!

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Stephen for the kind comment about the video. . To be honest, I usually change the water every five or six days, depending on what the water is looking like. I certainly do not drain it every day.
      I have a small bird bath at home and this need s changing twice a day, but its a lot smaller and gets a lot of use. It really depends on how big the area is, how much water is in it, and how often its getting used. I want to have water in it all the time so the birds know its a location where they can drink and bathe.

    Another nice video Roger, very helpful and very informative, I only wished I had somewhere to set one up myself. As for the earlier comments on the set up, I think overall it looks nice and is an improvement, which of course is what you’re looking for. I do wonder if the false bank being so straight and even is why some folks have made comments, maybe a bit of undulation or the vegetation actually being in the water might help? Just a thought. Great work and enjoyable video.

      @@davidosborn3356 Yes, still a waiting list for the 150-400mm lens. I am on the list, just waiting for one to come in. They say it's about a 7 months waiting list now . I had to sell my EM1X and 300mm to finance it so hope I do not have to wait long ! Very creative solution. How often is it necessary to change the water?

    • @rogerhance5883
      @rogerhance5883  2 года назад

      It depends Roland. I change the water every 5 days. It is still pretty clear even then ,but its best to change the water regularly. Our bird bath at home needs changing twice a day, but its only a small bird bath, so the water gets dirty fairly quickly. It really depends on how many birds are using it and how often.
