It’s not really a spoiler, but everyone in River City is all about fighting (or at least most of them) including the cops. The world of River City probably doesn’t even understand the meaning of due process. :)

My relatiomship with this genre is weird. I used to love them, then didn't like them, the liked them. Though I haven't played a lot. Only ones I remember playing are this game, castle crashers and a little bit of streets of rage 2

I loved the old river city aesthetics. There was the original beat em up, soccer, volleyball, a fighting game and maybe more that I have not played.
There's also dodgeball, basketball, Olympic events and the never ending sequels/spin-offs that never made it outside Japan.

The last beat em up game I played was Double Dragon. It's cool that this type of games is coming back.
Double Dragon had the same dev father as Kunio-kun, Kunio-kun first game Renegade laid the groundwork, and then he made Double Dragon for western audience. His River City Ransom was also a western port, having Double Dragons as End Bosses in it, with their real DD theme in the fight. They appeared in River City Ransom and the original Downtown Nekketsu Story.
Plus Those Devs have evolved to Arc System Works. Glad those devs are still around making great games like DBFZ and Guilty Gear Strive.
Can we please start having more games like this

It’s a beat-em’ up, not a fighting game, so the attack commands aren’t going to be that complicated
It’s a beat em up, so it’s not complicated. The most input you do is a direction and light/heavy/special. The only real “combo” is multiple light jabs into any heavy/special attack.
Granted, I only beat the game with Misako so maybe there are crazy combos (I doubt it). The only extra attack I’ve ever pulled off was hitting the enemy again as they fall down from a “uppercut”.
philor sum It’s not really a “combo” list, but more of a command list. You unlock more light attacks to do after the light jab connects, but every other unlock is an attack with high knockback (so unless the trajectory is straight up, there’s no way to connect past the initial light jab combo into heavy/special).
But the point of the game is to be an RPG beat-em-up, not an extensive fighting game. One on one fights with standard enemies are really easy, but the game constantly throws more and more enemies at you at the same time (and most enemies have two or three main attacks, aside from a simple jab).
And in all the boss fights, it’s all about finding the boss’s pattern. :)

Misako gives me some serious Ryuko from kill la kill vibes. Game looks pretty cool, I use to love playing these types of beat em ups at arcades. I remember the Simpsons one being my favorite.

I am grateful that the River City Ransom/Kunio-kun series is receiving more praise. Misako and Kyoko are different from the Japanese release game they appear in, but that is not a bother to me.

@J. D. Actually I also did that and I was surprised that it is now riddled with fighting games(mostly the different versions of tekken) and claw machines. There was one pilot sim machine but I didn't see anyone use it.
Kinda sad that these casual games aren't there anymore.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World remastered when?
The game got pulled for a multitude of reasons, all of which have to do with multiple licenses.
The comic creator really wants to bring the game back, but that decision falls on Ubisoft, Universal, etc. He said he was going to try bringing it back a few years ago, so who knows? He might already be in the process of bringing it back. :)
