In the first choreographed version of the battle between Palpatine and the Jedi, in his office, the fight wasn’t over so quickly. Last minute changes had Ian McDiarmid replace his stunt double and Ian couldn’t immediately handle the rigors of a lengthy and complex fight scene. It would have been cool to see that extended battle even though Sidious still wins.

Maybe instead of forcing Anakin to spy on Palpatine which helped destroy Anakin's trust in the Jedi, the Council could have arranged more advanced training for him with Yoda and Windu in preparation for a fight they knew was coming

Honestly yeah, and if they disliked Palpatine's relationship with Anakin you actually turn the tables and assent to his wished to have Anakin off world, that keeps him away from Palpatine which then keeps Palpatine from calling for him.

@@shawn092182 They did not trust Anakin's relationship with Palpatine (rightly so) and did not like Palpatine wedging Anakin into their affairs as a show of power (The Council doesn't like it when he interferes with Jedi Affairs--Obi-Wan). So while he was the only one that could get close to Palpatine that doesn't mean it is the only avenue to finding and defeating him. Given enough time and with Anakin away long enough it might have been achieved. Heck, when ROTS was made the Jedi got so close that the Battle of Coruscant was created to not only knock them off the trail but bring Anakin back to be groomed. Had the Jedi kept going or not brought Anakin back to save Palpatine they very well may have found out on their own and killed him without Skywalker.
Labyrinth of Evil was sadly erased with the new canon but it was a masterpiece of a book that delved into that. Clone Wars kind of stole elements from that for their less stellar chip storyline.

They were more worried about maintaining their politics, image, and control over the army than about taking down the sith lord. They thought Palpatine would just get effortlessly defeated in a few minutes anyways. Classic jedi council moment lol

Sidious toyed with Windu in order to create a moment of Supreme crisis for Anakin.
It’s a shame that the books and comics paint a kinder image of this respectable council members vs the Movie just make them look like fodder, granted it was to emphasize the sheer amount power that Palpatine wielded, I enjoy reading and hearing about their exploits. The expanded universe in Star Wars has always been my favorite because there was characters who are incredibly interesting and have awesome stories that we unfortunately don’t get to see. And it’s one of the reasons I’ve followed this channel because it showcases some hidden gems our favorite far far away galaxy.
Star Wars fans think like video gamers. These are sword fights, not power level measures. Anyone can lose a sword fight to someone "weaker." It's a dangerous game. One hit with a light saber and that's it. So a surprise attack isn't quite the same as a duel, is it? The Jedi were beaten by their own arrogance at every turn, and that's what the story is about, not power levels of sword masters measured against each other like D-measuring contests. It's ridiculous that people don't get this.
Actually, it's because George Lucas decided to scrap the original choreography in favour of Ian doing his own fighting. Worst decision ever. They all died like punks.

to be fair palpatine was that powerful and no one on the council had ever faced a true sith lord because they realized too late they weren't extinct so the jedi council wasn't exactly prepared to deal with a true sith lord let alone one as powerful as palpatine.

i doubt it would have changed anything. Palpatine would only reveal himself to Anakin, and Anakin telling them was how the Jedi council even knew the Sith master was Palpatine.
If anakin was away there would be no fight. Palpatine would simply wait until Anakin was next back on Coruscant. And while Palpatine wouldn’t want to fight both Mace and Yoda at the same time, given that even Anakin’s help wouldn’t save him, he could always arrange to reveal himself at some other time Yoda was off world

The problem is that people selectively ignore *how* and *why* Windu was able to defeat Sidious in lightsaber combat, and instead choose to apply this outlier of a feat against virtually every other Star Wars character as if it's the norm for Windu.
Furthermore, while I agree that Sidious did not 'throw' their saber duel like some people suggest, I do think that Sidious was never in any true danger of being killed due to the simple fact that he could have simply fallen back on his use of the Force at any point in their battle, much as he did in his battle with Yoda.
The Revenge of the Sith novelization makes it exceptionally clear that Sidious was at his most dangerous when he was unarmed, as Lightsabers were little more than toys or props to mock the Jedi to him. This is largely why he had such a low opinion of them. More importantly, the novelization bluntly stated that no Jedi could destroy the Sith due to the fact that they had grown and evolved, wheras the Jedi were only ready to face a foe from 1000 years ago.
So while Windu might have legitimately won their lightsaber duel, that battle itself was nothing but a sham that Sidious could have ended at any point (not to mention that Windu simply could never defeat the Sith anyways, only Anakin could bring balance to the Force by slaying Sidious). Just the possibility that Sidious could be killed by Windu would not only render the point of the Chosen One null and pointless (and thus Star Wars as a whole pointless), but would also prove that Bane's Rule of Two ultimately ended in failure.
@@Intrepid_Explorer Hard to take the novels seriously when they are riddled with artistic license by the author to flesh out a script that was no longer 100% accurate to the shot film (Stover had to work with the "finished" final script but the shooting script was constantly altered day of shooting to fit what Lucas wanted done). Stover told the story he wanted to tell with some of the fattier pieces of the novel. Like his portrayal of the Yoda/Sidious fight is pretty different from what's on screen and even stuff like the Grievous and Dooku duels had license applied. The Chancellor's arrest and duel had possibly the most license from what was in the finished film making it unreliable to use in an argument aside from just bringing the alternate take up for fun.
Also you are forgetting that Mace's unique powers negate the Force abilities of Sidious a great deal and paired with his saber making him indomitable vs Sidious, that's why he tried and failed to kill Mace with them after he was disarmed.
The ONE interesting point you bring up is that even if Mace and Yoda could beat Sidious, perhaps the Force prevented them from doing so because it was Anakin's job and in a way the Jedi had to learn a lesson that couldn't be accomplished by Mace simply killing Palpatine. I do think they could have killed him but perhaps the Force said, "no mate you don't get out this one easily".
Lastly, Bane's rule of two IS a failure because the Sith are failures. They will never be allowed to be successes. The Jedi have completely wiped the Sith out several times before, the Sith have never been able to make the Jedi extinct once, whether as an army or as two.
But it doesn't work that way. Lucas himself says these are tall tales and he likes inconsistency, just as many of our own cultural myths have variations depending on the region and the era. At one point he even said that the OT is R2D2's version of the events.
Just like the series can have Ahsoka fight Maul with the sabers Anakin gives her, while the book has her use her regular green ones. Different versions of the same story and Lucas said they're both true from the point of the storytellers.
So Sidious can throw the match to give urgency to Anakin making his decision and he could realize he should've used two sabers to take on Windu while also being beaten in a surprise miscalculation. Depends on the certain point of view.
Ultimately, what happens is dictated by the Force. Anakin was always going to become Vader and end up killing the Emperor and dying in the process, fulfilling his role as the chosen one after also destroying the corrupt Jedi, bringing balance back.

This is a very underrated comment because it acknowledges that Windu was the correct choice and they would have won if not for betrayal. Palpatine needed to "cheat" to beat Windu.
@@HannibalAfricanusFrom a certain point of view, Palpatine wasn't the one who cheated. It was the Jedi that cheated. Windu cheated by bringing three other people with him to fight one person. Then, at the end, another Jedi cheated by cutting off Windu's hand.😁
Palpatine would have stopped doing it and counterattacked if Anakin wouldn't have appeared. He had no way to turn Anakin if he had just slaughtered Windu, so he had to pretend he was losing. Not going to completely discount a Windu victory, but I dont think it's as one-sided as it first seems.
Sidious wasn't being hurt by that lightning, all it did was diminish his force mask revealing to us what he truely looks like. Remember sidious went through vigorous training with the force lightning as palegious would used it on him frequently. Imo i dont think anyone wielding force lightning hurts sidious with it. Windu bested sidious in the duel hands down, the hypocritical point of view windu had infront of anakin was pivotal and pushed him over that edge, falling to the dark as we see play out

Exactly, mace did beat sidious. He beat him with lots of haxs but was still good enough to fight him with out them. Sure, take away vaapad’s effect and shatter point and mace would have lost, but those powers create conversation about the fight. The let him match sidious and find his weakness. Had sidious had the same powers he would have won

They had no idea who Sidious was until 15 minutes before they barged into his office and got themselves perished in epic fashion. If they had any idea who he was beforehand, they would have gone about that much differently, and order 66 wouldn't have been nearly as successful if it even happened at all.
Did you even listen to what was said in the video.
They didn't know it was Palpatine who was Sidious, but they did think he was connected to the Sith. That's why they told Anakin to spy on him.
So, another example of the Council's incompetence, arrogance, and bad decision making.
Not really any of those since they accomplished the job had Anakin not been a gullible fool who didn't care about the Jedi way except to use it to save his own selfish reasons and because he felt guilty for doing what Mace did to a legitimate unarmed prisoner in Dooku.

As said in the video, Egan was uncompromising against the dark side or evil. While Anakin was known to be tempted and even embrace the dark side. It's the same reason they didn't let Anakin on the council, he had a bad track record in their eyes.
Egan was like Anakin but obedient like a guard dog lol. They couldn't trust Anakin to not call them out on their corruption and complacency after taking the sith lord down, like they could Egan. For them, taking down the dark lord was basically guaranteed, they were more worried about what would happen after 😂

Bruh. It was a simple kick in the face. What’s that with vapaad to do? And yes sidious let Mace, and he opened up for him and then trusted Anakin to help him. His goal was to get him as an apprentice, not to kill mace omfg. Palp already knew he will win the war once Anakin is on place and then continue from there
The Jedi were arrogant AF. Almost to the point of stupidity. The older I get the more I dislike them. They needed to go. Being a Jedi probably sucked in so many ways.
As youngsters we think highly of jedi and jedi like people... as we age, we see through their lies and hypocrisy and understand that sith and similar organisations are not as bad as the jedi would have us believe, this is why the sith are always reborn through the jedi themselves coz they cant brainwash every single person and some can see them for the liar, hypocrites and frauds they are

Mace Windu intentionally left the guy who just beat a Sith Lord/Renowned Jedi Master.
At that point, Anakin has the most insight and experience to get an idea of what we’re up against.
He probably got a bead on Sidious’s strength as well since he no longer had to hide himself.
if the Sith Master had been anyone beside Palpatine, yes bring Anakin. But anakin clearly had a close relationship with Palpatine, they were known to be close friends, almost like father and son.

A lot of the characters like him are basically Red Shirts in Star Trek. Their whole purpose is to demonstrate the danger involved. We don’t need to know everything about all of them.
Could, would , or should are just the words of our imagination. Sidious was a tough and careful cookie, he died because of simply because he misjudged the situation.

In terms of the beginning of the fight. I know changes were made and we did not get what was intended to be shown. What they could have done was have the beginning all in slow motion but have Palpatine moving faster within the slo motion segment. That would display how fast he was moving and show the power of the dark side he was using. That’s just my thoughts. But younger me watching all those years ago thinking “those three Jedi didn’t even move! Did they want to die?!”

Technically he was the Master of the Order not Grand Master. Basically he led the Council discussion, the Jedi Council and oversaw day to day duties while Yoda was more of a figurehead, spiritual leader that saw the bigger picture and was the "de jure" (by right of law) leader of the entire Jedi Order. For practical purposes Mace was the de facto leader but Yoda was ranked higher.
Another way to look at it is this: Some real life countries have two leadership positions, commonly a president and prime minister. One position keeps the country's internal house in order while the other is the international leader that interacts with other foreign powers and is also the overall leader of the country. Mace was the former and Yoda was the latter....until the Clone Wars when it was consolidated into one uniform position.
Master of the Order is/was a different position from Grandmaster.

People really get upset when you say Windu didn't really beat Sidious. Personally i think he did beat him, but fighting that many Jedi of that caliber would be tough for anyone. So maybe if it were only Mace and Sidious, who knows.

Palpatine was stronger than anyone realized. He toyed with yoda , he allowed mace to overtake him. Just so Anakin would turn.
We all saw his power , during the first part of ROTS. How did two fully trained Jedi not sense his power during the rescue ? How did palpatine not give his self up. Because the Jedi all had a blinding arrogance that led to their downfall?

@@gregfam6250 Even lore not considered, that was a extremely lame fight scene. Typical of Lucas. He failed in probably all of them for not using real martial artists and stunts to deliver impressive fighting scenes. The results is what we see on screen. Ridiculous!

Had Mace taken Anakin with him. He'd have been conflicted yes. But watching Sidious kill jedi masters casually. That would have hardened Skywalker in the light, and he would have fought by Windus side to destroy the sith. Combined with this Master. Sidious would have been destroyed within seconds. Perhaps, no more Jedi would have died.

The original choreography was scrapped because George Lucas made a dumb last minute decision to have Ian do his own fighting. The result is the rubbish we got.
People defending the scene have clearly never watched other lore such as The Clone Wars to understand just how badass these other Jedi really were, especially Kit Fisto. Instead, they all died like punks, except for Mace Windu.

Anakin wasn't put on the council because of his attitude. And he didn't deserve it with all the secrets he was keeping.
Being on the council had nothing to do with someone's lightsaber talent. It was about someone's emotional discipline and maturity. The fact that Anakin wanted that position just to have access to the Sith artifacts in the archives is precisely why the council was 100% right in denying him that rank. Being the Chosen One didn't mean he was entitled to special treatment.

He literally says Mace overpowers him in the duel sequence of events (hence the deliberate mention of the Lightning attack right after that...and that it always took anakin to cut Mace's hand off to end the battle in Palpatine's favor). George didn't even come up with the pretending to throw the battle until after the writing process, on set.

Let me get this straight: Palpatine neg diffed the other masters, spent a whole sequence trying to kill Windu, and then just decided to let Windu disarm him just before Anakin entered the equation so Palpatine could convince Anakin to embrace the Dark Side?
