I have 2 mates that voted a mixture of Greens and Labour for years; then they became self-employed. Once they worked for themselves then their whole attitude changed, it was all about the Tories. When I asked why, they said "because I pay waaaaaay less taxes owning my own business than I did working for someone else". When it comes down to it, it's just about self-interest and greed; that's the only reason to ever vote Tory.

They voted brexit because of "foreigners", and yet between 80-85% of their employees were foreigners; which they didn't declare and paid less than minimum wage. They took advantage of tax loopholes because that how the scum Tories set it it; so they and their rich donor friends can pay less, percentage wise, than regular people.

Conservative voters are extremely frustrating to listen to, it's a shame Murdoch press have so much control and market share in Britain, the same in Australia. The influence of right-wing media moguls really shouldn’t be underestimated, it seeps into every home and poisons minds against each other. The Tories rely on othering the working class against themselves, and othering immigrants against everybody, because it distracts from the true causes of the misery that so many people are suffering these days. They scapegoat the voiceless in society, then demonise anything bordering on progressive social reform, and in doing so they obfuscate their own amoral behaviours for their own self-enrichment and the pursuit of their ever increasing power… I don’t see how this can lead us to anywhere other than extremism, each time the pendulum swings… I’m so thoroughly hopeless about the future of democracy.
