The clean girl aesthetic really pushed cosmetic procedures to the forefront. Because makeup became really minimal and you couldn’t alter your face with contouring. So people gravitated to changing their face rather than using makeup to do it. The standard of perfection increased exponentially.
Totally, it still promotes plastic surgery, it just went from lip and cheekbone fillers to eyebrow lift and foxy eye surgery, the result: people still look the same with all
I think contouring actually did this. People got tired of applying makeup to change their features so they wanted a more permanent solution. Also.. the Kardashians.
@@natalieh8023 I think the Kardashians are definitely the biggest influence on modern plastic surgery. But doing glam makeup ie contouring was attainable for most people. You could use matte foundation to cover any imperfections. Glass skin, clean beauty and similar trends separated the ultra attractive from normal people. I agree that all beauty trends in some way contribute to people seeking cosmetic enhancements. I just think that when it became the standard to be “naturally” gorgeous looking it excluded a lot of people. It looks amazing on women who are stunning but enhances “imperfections” on people society would classify as average. It made a lot of women feel self conscious about their looks. Fillers and Botox was already popularized but this caused it to be normalized.
Only thing I disagree with is when you say "high cheekbones and puffy lips are disgusting". A large part of why people undergo procedures is because they feel inadequate and judged. There is so much hate on social media and so much critique of women's appearance. Remember that "guess my age" trend, and people took it as an opportunity to tell women they look hideous and ancient? Yeah, that is a key contributing factor. So adding more judgment isn't it. Especially because some people have these qualities naturally. I've often been asked if I have cheek filler- and I do not. These are just the cheekbones I was born with. But I've had several people ask me that in a condescending tone and I can tell they don't believe that these are just the cheeks I was born with, and they're judging me for it. So lets not hate on people who feel insecure and go for these procedures, or people who have prominent cheekbones or full lips naturally. More judgment isn't the solution. But I agree- it is crazy to see people looking identical. A prime example is Stassie- Kylie Jenner's best friend. Over the years she has become a Kylie clone and at times I can't tell them apart. They have the same BBL body as well.
@@jadinblackmountain Real. Like, she should think about those who were born with those qualities, she's literally giving them a reason to be insecure lmao
It's obvious she meant those features are disgusting in the context of Instagram Face (the theme of video) which are result of fillers and surgery, and she's right, that look is so uncanny to say the least and people are literally ruining their faces to look like that (maybe saying it's "disgusting" will prevent anyone to throw their money and risk their health to look like that (?). Maybe she should've used another word but that doesn't change the fact IG face looks un attractive irl
She definitely meant the overtly fake version is disgusting. And I’d say most people agree with that. It’s very creepy that everyone is looking the same.
@@jadinblackmountain this is not the definition of a "pick me" she was just stating that you do not need to alter your face to look like every other person.

I'm learning to love myself but it's definitely been a long journey.
@far6311 I'm aware you don't have to be mixed to be pretty. Where in my comment did I say that?? I said people kept asking me if I was mixed. And that I wished I looked as gorgeous like other BLACK women, be it monoracial or bi. I know people of all backgrounds can be attractive. Same way people of all skin tones can be attractive.

I think Instagram face also became successful as a beauty standard because of how "multicultural" is it? Or accessible to every ethnicity. Diversity is a standard across all areas of life now as globalization increases. We are increasingly connected to everyone. Thus, beauty standards like Instagram Face take from all places too almost. The beauty standard isn't truly Eurocentric/"White" anymore because Instagram Face is about thick brows, thick lips, thick hips, big butt, and other features that aren't strictly associated with white women. I remember in the 2000s when it used to be about being thin, not having a big butt, having straight hair, etc. Girls in school would go on and on about wanting blue eyes or straighter hair because the beauty standard wasn't Instagram Face. The Kardashians totally made Instagram Face and heavy makeup blow up too. Without them I have no idea what trend the media would have pushed. Crazy.
My girl Leilani's a real one! Smart and beautiful, not needing to look like everyone else. You embrace your individuality as we all should! I'll tell you this, too - I'd rather look like me or someone like Leilani than any one of the carbon copies out there. No thanks ❤
I feel like I’m part of the few millennials/zillennials on social media that absolutely hates how filters, made to replicate plastic surgery, makes me look. I feel like I look like an alien or very “uncanny valley”. I genuinely love my natural face and much prefer the natural faces of others too!
I love seeing young ppl saying it at last, absolutely agree with you , it doesn't look cute it looks cheap, boring and disgusting but hey let em destroy themselves 🤷🏻♀️
As a 28 year old male that has had Botox for many years and even got chin filler and cheek filler, I will say that I’ve paused on my touching any more of my face. I remember I was contemplating lip filler and more filler for other areas, and I had to stop myself. I look amazing right now, so why would I change what’s working? I love my natural face more than ever. Sure, I’ve enhanced my cheek area and my chin, however, I have learned to love my features to the fullest and embrace my brown almond eyes and my smaller lips. They fit my face!
Small lips look so hot on a man. Look at George Clooney when he was in his prime. And then imagine how goofy he would have looked with a bunch of lip filler. Nature tends to give most people harmonious features that go well together.
I remember when it all started and everyone around me, I'm talking friends, classmates, just in general girls I knew were ALL trying to make their faces look like that with makeup and filters. All young teenage girls. The influence it had on their insecurities was insane. I was also influenced by it and tried to "fit in" even though it was stupid. I'm glad that beauty standards or trends no longer affect me and that people are talking about how ridiculous it is.
I’ve noticed a few trends; 1) more often than not, Gen Z girls strive very hard to be _racially ambiguous._ Everyone wants to look like Kim or Kylie. I believe this is why lip fillers are so prevalent. 2) millennials fully embraced the maximalist makeup in early-2017. This new ‘clean aesthetic’ is very uncommon in millennials. 3) it’s really sad seeing very beautiful women (and men, I guess lol) get cosmetic surgery. Ain’t no way you need Botox at 22, much less lip filler. You said it really gracefully, it was a good talk. 6:18
It just makes me sad when I see girls compare themselves to the instagram filter. This is why it can be so damaging. It’s making people believe they’re ugly with their normal face. 😓
Girl, you are NOT alone! Thank you for your research and thoughts on this matter. Women should feel empowered in their own natural beauty, not coerced into a surgical/AI/Bratz doll aesthetic.
5:24 in one video i remember you said you're happy not to have a bomb on your nose like some others. It made me feel ugly in my natural face. It's hard to think different.
You can’t let one persons opinion highjack your feelings like that. She is allowed to feel how she wants about her own nose, don’t let that control how you feel about your own.
Damn, really? Reminds me of when Madisyn Brown said that if she wasn't curvy, she'd get a bbl too, lol. I've noticed that with a lot of commentary creators who talk about beauty standards and the like. They'll say that beauty standards are toxic to women and we should embrace things like individuality and aging, but then they'll turn around and make fun of people for "Looking too old" and say the most disgusting things about women who have that "Tiktok face" look. Shit, it even happens to women who don't have that look. If you look at the comment sections of these videos, it happens there, too. It's so weird when they claim to be doing it for women's benefit, yet they spew misogynistic rhetoric and secretly uphold beauty standards (for Madisyn, slim thicc bodies, for this youtuber, small noses).
I saw a picture of Kelly Osborne a while back and I genuinely was shocked and saddened for her. I understand the pressure, being under the spotlight her entire life, but imagine having a child and they remove everything unique about them in order to look like hundreds of others
I am all for women should do whatever they please , but at the same time what these women really need to do is focus on loving themselves, women look too deeply at themselves and try to fix something that isn't broken . Women overall are beautiful. I just could never imagine changing my face to look like every other woman .
Thank you for saying this out loud!! It’s so annoying that everyone looks (or wants to look) exactly alike. It’s hard to get on social media and feel like you are the only person that has a big nose, or small lips, or imperfect skin. It’s tough out there-especially for young girls who get bombarded with all these ridiculous beauty standards!!
I find natural beauty on me and others so much more beautiful. I think people sometimes find the imperfections on you perfect. I love imperfection much more than perfection. I think it doesnt only makes you less attractive it also makes you look insecure
I think we take for granted how much pressure fame puts on people in general to look perfect. I think they have major anxiety about people meeting them and they look different from their pictures. I also think that when your looks are your currency you are in danger of over manipulating your face to fit the trends that make you marketable. I honestly think that in a sense we speak from a high horse when we speak of celeb body modifications. You must ask yourself why THEY ALL fall for it? Well because there’s a pressure they go through that we can’t understand. Do they end up regretting it and ruining the natural beauty that rose them to fame? Yes but it’s a messed up game and celebs are the pawns. If we knew this we wouldn’t copy or even admire them…we would pity them.

You know how some looks from the past still look good. Like some makeup looks and clothes from certain parts of the 60s and 1970s. I just knew even then that the extreme beat super contour look was gonna look bad in the future lol. It’s crazy bc for example Ariana Grande she always looked pretty back then in her videos and photos, posts during this 2015-2017 era but looking back on it she looks like those were her pre glow up days. That IG baddie beginnings did no one any favors
If you rearrange your whole face at 20, you’ll never know what you would have actually looked like at 30, 40, etc. I had full cheeks at 20, thank God I didn’t get buccal fat removal because I got really gaunt and lost all my baby fat after 30. I also wonder how these cat eyes and giant lips are going to age.
I just don't get why these celebrities lie about getting cosmetic surgery as if people are stupid and can't tell 😂 and the fact that most sell makeup while lying is is no integrity at all .
I have my father's features and my mom's colors. Would've preferred to have it the other way around lol (trust me) but hey, these are the people who raised me, love me, and I was lucky to be born healthy. Why the hell alter that and fight against it.
This girl is so young that she thinks people start getting plastic surgery in their 30s and said “acne and pimples” as though they’re two different things. Bless her sweet heart! 😂❤
I do understand why ppl do that but to me it's a sign of weakness and mental instability. Maybe I look good how I was born bc I don't want to do strange things to my face and ppl tell me that I look good. Most of the girls don't look good. U can see easily what was done and that is not something I would consider a proper job. The goal for surgery or injections is that you don't see it and it looks natural.
In real life I have not seen an insta face in normal average people. I think regular people are using filters and do look better in their pics then in real life
my horror moment is that guys are being normalized w insta and plastic Faces and naturally expect us normal girls to look like that! how can I compete with these online jolenes? 😭
I feel like this has also warped how we see aging. Your 30s and 40s aren’t actually “old”😂 Thanks to filters and face tuning etc. people think if your face doesn’t look like you just turned 21 then you’re basically a grandma…
Sorry, I actually look like this naturally with a small skinny nose, big full lips, small waist, cup size F and I hated this look growing up. Now I look the same like everybody all clones.
The same feature thing is ridiculous. I don’t like plastic surgery however acne, it’s a sign of health. Either hormones are off and/or infection. It’s natural not to want that. Aging? It’s basically signs that you’re on your way to the grave. No one wants to look like they’re growing close to that. It’s a natural desire to be clear skinned full of collagen and youth. The reality of keeping that way unrealistic and people are hurting their health and esteem to try to obtain it. I’m tired of hearing people saying we’re supposed to have acne and wrinkles, it’s a sign of failing health.
Wait there is something called an instgram face 😂. I guess i don't insta for anything other than travel and food videos so idk what does that even mean

This has given me severe body Dysmorphia. I had to delete my Instagram. I went to Albania and every single girl in the country looked like this😂
OMG THAT WAS TANA?! Jeez!! I would have NEVER recognized her..
no people are making their faces ugly and it’s sad
Im all for procedures & I do think some people look better with a few tweaks here and there.
I’d rather be ugly and unique than pretty and commonplace. Thanks for the video
I just don't get why these celebrities lie about getting cosmetic surgery as if people are stupid and can't tell 😂 and the fact that most sell makeup while lying is is no integrity at all .
Look at the most recent love island cast. They are in their 20's but they look older than me at 38!
This whole instagram face thing was weirdly predicted by 'Infinite Jest.'
UR MY FAVOURITE RUclipsR!💖
I wish you would make longer videos. 😊
You're a cutie 🥰 and you have a good head on your shoulders👍👍👍 don't ever let society change you
ty for this!
I have my father's features and my mom's colors. Would've preferred to have it the other way around lol (trust me) but hey, these are the people who raised me, love me, and I was lucky to be born healthy. Why the hell alter that and fight against it.
And now all the insta baddies look the same, it’s crazy.
This girl is so young that she thinks people start getting plastic surgery in their 30s and said “acne and pimples” as though they’re two different things. Bless her sweet heart! 😂❤
I very agree😭 I love faces but this one is everywhere and I hate it!! It's so boring and bleh. I'm just tired of that face tbh
okay i mean this this with love... but dont you kinda have instagram face?? lol ur gorgeoussss af
I wonder if in a few years we'll start seeing buccal fat replacement procedures
I totally see things the same way as you
I do understand why ppl do that but to me it's a sign of weakness and mental instability.
1:05 Fr, I think Botox is something that takes the natural beauty away from the person
A number of years ago I noticed that lots of these ladies looked clones.
Tanya looks like a side show!
Everyone has the same face
I feel like this has also warped how we see aging. Your 30s and 40s aren’t actually “old”😂 Thanks to filters and face tuning etc. people think if your face doesn’t look like you just turned 21 then you’re basically a grandma…
Until you're 30/40 STFU. Lol. It feel hella old. 😄😖
Sorry, I actually look like this naturally with a small skinny nose, big full lips, small waist, cup size F and I hated this look growing up. Now I look the same like everybody all clones.
Who tf did your hair??
why would you comment that shit for
@@middledog466 it’s terribly done.
@@Emogyalokay you feel that way, but genuinely what is the point of speaking to someone like that?
Who cares honestly
People lack individuality
Does someone knows who is the girl at. 00:25 ?
eva rankin

Desirable to whom though? As an oldie I am curious to understand this generation
to men, to people in general, to society, to friends...
Covid and then Zoom calls propelled plastic surgery for young people.
i’m earlyyy 💗
i like ur vids sometimes but a lot of the time i feel like you need to do more research. sometimes u dont sound right
interesting! why do you think so?
can you say more? what's wrong with what she said?
Why is justin biber posting this girls photos

Anyone know who the girl is at 3:13?
Wait there is something called an instgram face 😂.
I guess i don't insta for anything other than travel and food videos so idk what does that even mean
Can you pls made a video about hannah owo people like her doing cringe things?
7:27 WTF is that supposed to be? Ridiculous.
Coming from you this is just jealousy
