Some people (myself included) are also just pretty in person - not on camera. I’ve had friends lovingly tell me I am the least photogenic person ever, but that my beauty shines in person. I think a lot of people are like that, and not enough people appreciate ‘real life’ beauty enough. And that’s a damn shame

Yeah this is a real thing. There are certain features that look good on camera and videos. This is why gorgeous celebrities get plastic surgery and people wonder why because they are already so goodlooking. Their livelihood depends on their appearance through camera lenses , that’s why they undergo procedures to obtain more photogenic features. They do what they have to do to secure the bag, but I hope us normal people can realize that not being photogenic doesn’t mean we aren’t pretty. Im also someone who gets told that I look a lot better in person

It's so funny because I work with almost all women. We all look very different from eachother - different ages, races, nationalities, heights, weights, eye color, nose sizes, etc (you get the picture). We're all very attractive and no there's absolutely nothing wrong with knowing you are. Are we supermodels? Well, no, but who the hell cares? We're all different. We're all also smart and kind and that makes us all that much more interesting in general. We embrace our glorious genetics and sashay that shit for all we're worth. Know your value and stop comparing yourself to others. There's always going to be someone more beautiful or thinner or taller or with better hair or WHATEVER! I left tiktok a looong time ago because I found absolutely ZERO value in it. Not only does short form content by nature offer little opportunity to create value, but the culture of tiktok in all niches that I experienced, were vapid at best, and toxic at worse. The filtered version of beauty that exceeds reality for even the billion view creators - is a depressing situation that even for the successful few, will lead to nothing but anxiety and self depreciation because the truth is we all AGE and even those young girls seeing success now are going to be in the fight of their lives to stay relevant as they age.

This is actually quite scary i didn't know that the filters were this extreme now. I saw another video on RUclips that got thousands of views made by a male that said women that called out this stuff were “just jealous ” and he used that video with almost 1 billion views as the example saying that other girls and women were jealous of her because they were saying “she's just sitting in front of the camera doing nothing. ” i gave that video a thumbs down.

    • @alexialira3839
      @alexialira3839 4 месяца назад +20

Meanwhile I was introduced to that lady when a thumbnail of a dude calling it out came out on my feed. Males in the comments were calling it out that doing nothing = views. 🤷🏻‍♀️
That said, many people are still duped by AI and filters just like you were. With some people, even if you tell them it's not real and/or procedures, they'll dismiss you. I've seen females comment that so and so is jealous when they call out filters or procedures. After all, if they admit it's fake, that would mean they were fools to believe it and many can't and won't accept that.
Lastly, the largest demographic on TikTok is young people.... including kids. I have relatives that are elementary teachers and little kids are on there. It's insane.
Also, the tik tok demographic is largely female. I remember when I was a substitute teacher for a bit (I quit,) I learned that girls were interested in watching these pretty do nothing girls while the boys were more into games or videos about gaming.
People, women in particular, like to call out males for this and the standards of beauty, however I think it's time to see things as they are....and it's females doing this to themselves.
I remember hearing recently that Kylie Jenner is mad about the beauty standards [that she and her sisters promoted] lol it's ridiculous
Now I've seen that young males are getting interested in their looks way too much and watching "mewing" videos and all that junk saying that they should start caring in the way women do. It's madness!!

The “I got first my house at age 18”, “I got all A’s in school”, “I became a millionaire at 21”, “I got 6 cars before my 20th birthday”.
All these now add up to why so many people have anxiety and are depressed. They’re constantly comparing themselves to what they see online. Her TikTok page is mostly her posting all her vacations, parties, grwm, and ofc those lip syncing stuff. Her makeup is always fully done, her hair is perfect, and she looks so stunning. I actually met her in real life and we became friends but I didn't realize it was her when I first met her - she doesn't wear makeup and she told me how she uses filters and puts a lot of effort. She does this because brands get girls who are pretty to model for them and basically pretty girls get more sponsorships. But in real life she puts no effort in her appearance. in real life she's actually not "society pretty" and she's actually such a normal person, but online she actual looks so unreal. anyways the point is that these tiktok pretty girls are at their best with a lot of effort with their appearance and with a hell lot of filters. they aren't like that in real life. so you really can't compare yourself.

I love your content! Thank you for making a video about this and pointing out how insane it is. I've noticed that the women that rise to fame on tiktok are not only exceptionally pretty, but they also fit into a very narrow range of certain facial features. It's very rare to see a tiktok famous woman without big, plump lips, a small nose, big eyes, high cheekbones, a narrow face, and a defined jawline. It leads to most female tiktok celebrities looking so similar, almost to the point of confusing one for another. And other creators, even if they are privileged in their looks-- if they don't have the big lips, high cheekbones, "sculpted" look to their face and body, they will not get as far. I think most people would agree that exceptional beauty can look different and does not always look like IG models. Don't get me wrong, they are very beautiful, but it's sad that a certain "type" of beauty that's unattainable for most of the population is the only way a woman can get far using her looks. There isn't much uniqueness anymore in a lot of online spaces and in the IG modeling space. I wish more people would notice and celebrate different types of beauty, whether that look like different facial features, a different race, or a different body structure.

honestly one of the worst things to ever happen to social media was the “tiktok pretty, bunny pretty, fox pretty…” etc. we lose more of our identities and the traits that make us special every day to try and fit into a mold. it’s sad because as humans we are so diverse and there is beauty in everything about us

I remember one person that said that french women (where I come from) were more androgynous, and it always stuck to me.
Gaelle garcia diaz is such a beautiful woman, she looks so mature but not tiktok pretty. And that's what I always saw in french women, a "strong" jaw but not an American standard of beauty.
There's some women I see that are beautiful, but they don't have the "tiktok" features. I guess we're more on the "90s" face standard?

It's possible that the filters are optimized for caucasian features. When facial recognition first came out on the iPhone it didn't work well on Chinese faces. If this is true, developers might be working on filters that work differently depending on your ethnic background. There could be some more representation later on.

I really enjoyed your commentary video. I will definitely subscribe to you! What I also would like to mention is that most of the white girls getting famous are girls who have black/brown girls features like full lips, big eyes etc. (which does not mean that white girls cannot have that feautures!) are being considered as very much pretty and tiktok fitting while black girls with similar features do not get the same recognition. Both are beatiful but its always the white girl being celebrated for that features and never the brown/black poc girl.

one of the worst parts (in my opinion) is how these people using filters and altering their appearance are telling us that we're beautiful just the way we are, but society doesn't give a shit about you unless your pretty, rich, or dead,.

Naah cuz my mom technically has all those features that are popular now.. big plump lips , big eyes (trust me they are huge 😭) tiny nose and an some what oval face.. And guess what she is insecure about her looks he particularly hates her lips becuz obviously back then small lips were in trend.. AND I ALWAYS WISHED (STILL DO) TO LOOK LIKE HER.. but its so tragic how such a beauty is insecure too (bte my friends have constantly reminded her she is gorgeous )

Ive seen a Leah yt video & she openly speaks about her getting lip filler done. Idk abt a nose job but point is a lot of these girls get these surgeries & that is what we compare ourselves to. social media is fake & we should not subject ourselves to these standards or copy & paste features. we are all beautiful & different in our own ways so love yourselves & put your phone down & go out & appreciate beauty in real life & not behind a screen ❤

Idk why, but for some reason, I start to think that the people in real life that look more ‘normal’ are more beautiful to me now. I think it’s because of all the TikTok girls that look the same. It makes me want to look for something unique again, something that grabs my attention again. I’m starting to appreciate natures beauty more. I think that soon, other people will start to see their individual beauty more.

Sometimes my friends send me funny TikTok vids and I watch them, because I don’t use TikTok rly, just Yt shorts and when I finish the video suggested vids will pop up and almost all of them are just girls lip syncing and looking pretty. I only have RUclips, no other social media platforms and remember my friend showing me insta,TikTok, FB, etc. and I thought to myself “… why does everyone look SO perfect but I don’t see this in real life?” Little did I know about filters and photoshop because I’ve stayed of social media for about 10 years now and I was blown away. It did impact me, can’t imagine for the people who are on there scrolling everyday. I guess not living online and then getting a glimpse of it was confusing bc it was like 2 different worlds… honestly kind of scary. But that may just be me living under a rock lol. ( I was with a group of friends who said “post it for the gram” and I naively asked “what does your grandma have to do with this?”)
I will say the positive thing is that I guess no one looks like that in real life only online?

Hey girl, OMG another video posted from you! But yes, I agree with everything that you are talking about in this video because I never knew exactly what TikTok pretty was or Fox pretty or bunny pretty or dear pretty or animal pretty like they’re just a whole bunch of pretties that I never even knew existed, and we all keep making these terminologies and these analogies the word pretty just have been used in such a weird term to the point where it kind of also feels like a little fetish… like if you’re not these ideal pretties your call 90s pretty or 70s pretty like a lot of light pretties from back then it’s really weird because I really just feel like it’s just fashion sense and just generation of people changing but we keep normalizing things that don’t make sense.

In Leah's case, yeah she went super viral recently, but she also didn't just pop out of nowhere. I've been following her on youtube for about two years, and she has a storytime on how she started getting more followers after and ig account of baddies or something like that posted her picture a few years back.
I'm not saying that it's not pretty privilege (it sure is, cause most of her content is about makeup and hauls), but she was already pretty popular on other social media platforms. Tiktok only skyrocketed that

I guess I'm just too dumb to get influenced by ridiculous beauty standards 😂 like my brain literally can't fathom a human being looking like that so to me seeing those influencers is like seeing a cartoon character. Are Disney princesses pretty? Yes. Have I ever wanted to look like them (as in their faces, not the costumes).....no, not really. But that's just anecdotal and I'm sure people who have been picked on because of their appearance get impacted heavily by this stuff, knowing that having the "right face" could have saved them so much pain :/

8:20 I don't think that's the reason, tbh when I started the video I was like "shes so pretty, her face is so symmetrical and she has good harmony". I feel like the only way to become tiktok pretty is by dressing the same way, and doing make up like those girls, having long silky smooth hair and overall to not look basic. For example, Tyla is black and very gorgeous, she can easily take the spotlight if she were next to a white tiktok pretty girl

Thats literally the companies motive..to make you subconsciouly want and need to consume only this content...

I can’t believe it’s not more well known just *how much* these filters can change the way someone looks. They even have filters of different celebs, so a girl can be making a video and use a “Angelina Jolie” filter and all the sudden her entire face shape, brows, nose, etc will become distorted to look more like Jolie . They can be used for pictures and video, so you’ll never know what’s real until you see them irl or a candid shot. It’s all so fake and young girls are looking up to this and thinking they have to measure up. At this point most of what we’re seeing is just AI w a woman behind the mask. It’s smoke and mirrors guys …

Im an aesthetician by trade, and seeing so much of the nonsense in the beauty space is so disheartening that I left it. It went from taking care of yourself and feeling good to inflating your ego more than a hot air balloon. It's clownery plain and simple now. You can't pay your bills but can prioritize eyelash extensions only to find yourself with that 1 last lash hanging on for dear life trying to keep the illusion alive because now you cant keep up with the maintenance? The pressure put on women to literally be this object is gross yet people keep perpetuating it. It feels like we're in a circus, and if you've been fortunate enough to not subscribe to the regressive behaviors that are running rampant, you really see the show for what it is. I mean, you have the same people using filters stating catfishing is so wrong.....really? Whatchu doing in that app just now???? With all the advancements we have collectively, you'd think we would fare better, but it seems like we're moving closer and closer to idiocracy. Terrifying. Societal acne is what we've got, folks, and just like acne, it's often going to get worse before it gets better. Seeing channels like yours leaves me with hope in the human race. Thank you for your conten, and I am looking forward to your next video! 😁
