Sydney Harbour Kingfish nearly snapped my rod!

- In this episode, I head down to a local Sydney Harbour pier to do get amongst the start of season Yellowtail Kingfish action. During the start of season the Kingfish tend to be a lot larger in size however they are less numbers and are generally more fussy eaters whilst holding deeper in the water column through most of the day. The footage was compiled through 2 morning sessions a week apart. Fishing time was approximately 2.5 hours each morning. I have also found some old footage from last season which I added in the end for some bonus material. Hope you enjoy! P.S. How did grandma go hooking up to that BIG Kingfish?

After many requests to do another pier video here it is! Hope you enjoy.. all the details about the day/s and gear used is in the description box above ^
Where is this spot if you don’t mind to give better details if possible and would be appreciated thanks 🙏
@@The-football-gods I can help it’s at the Sydney harbour
I thought they banned fishing there
Can only fish a part of it mage not the whole area!
Sorry mate just saw this at the finger wharf Sydney harbour.
the deep knee bends lolol ... thanks for that rubber band tip! that as a line holder is brilliant idea
Ahahah bringing out my inner iso angler! Anytime mate, glad you enjoyed :)
I’ve fished Those piers since you were in your nappies and believe me the best fish are right under your feet. Edited, even before you were in your nappies
I hear you mate, I definitely agree with you that majority of the fish are holding right at the pylons. You do see some bonitos/kings fly in from time to time.
Nice one mate.. love the pier videos
Thanks mate, glad you enjoy them! :)
Hey Mick, long time Sydney fisho but have never targeted kingies. What rod do you recommend for this kind of fishing? I noticed there is a big distance between the water and the pier so Im looking for a good casting rod with decent casting for metals, seems like you a telescopic net is a must at that location?
Edit: i noticed most guys bait fish here
Hey mate, my apologies. RUclips put this in the "held for review" thinking it was spam. Really depends on the location but for Sydney Wharf/Piers need something 9"6-10" so you can pump up the fish and get them on surface before they get to the pylons underneath. Something PE5-6 (50-60lb) will be able to deadlift the fish up onto the wharf anything under the 95cm mark, anything bigger can use a Pier Landing net from Hookem, or we sometimes walk them to the steps and get a buddy to go down and grab the fish. Hope that helps.
Dang man those bust offs are heartbreaking. Some solid fish in that spot.
Thanks my bro, ahaha all for the love of the game ey? lol
Good stuff, hard to fish around those piers hard to pull fish from under
Too right mate, thanks for the support & wwatchin!
Keep up the videos mate 🔥
Thank you for the kind words mate! Legend. :)
Pier 2, good effort mate.
Thank you mate good fun :) !
Good to see you fishing again, mate, da spot is still yielding good kingies!
Thank you mate, never really stopped. Just went quiet on the social media side of things haha :D
How do you rigged your bait/yakka?I just can’t hook the fish when I hook up.Also, what size hook you are using and are they j or circles, thanks
Hey man, just on its shoulder with a size 3/0-5/0 hook depending on the size of the bait. These are J.. however just let your fish eat them before you strike :)
How often you goin' fishing with the whole COVID thing going on? Keep it up man!!!
Hey mate, I am for once a week or once a fortnight! Thanks for the support.
hi mate just a quick question how do you keep your prawns alive if i have bought them this afternoon for tomorrow morning thanks
Hi mate, I have a wall aerator and a fish tank at home. So when I get them I just transfer them from my bucket and into the tank. I've had them up to 4 days in there with no issues. Hope that helps!
Put a bottle of water into the freezer and let it compeltely freeze, then put it in ur bucket with the live prawns and an aerator. The prawns will go to sleep and live for ages.
Hi Mark,
Iam a Sydney new comer. I love your Video and really like to get out there for fishing. Please send me some location that you went to fish so I can get there and have some fun.
I am appreciated. Great video . Fully support your videos.
Hey mate welcome, thanks for the kind words and support. I provide Skype/Zoom fishing consultations via my facebook page. Check it out to make a booking :) Cheers.
it's like a Chinese fish market there with so many people.....
Mmm i like fish markets. Makes it more of a challenge weaving between people when you have a fish on.
Been so keen to start learning how to fish, any tips for starters on how to learn?
Alway's hard starting out, but once you get the ball rolling the pieces fall into place. Yes mate feel free to hit me up! I provide Skype consultations. - facebook.com/fishinwithmarkimark/services
I broke my rod tip recently and want to upgrade my rod as well. I am looking for a ultra light rod under $300. Is lox Yoshi a good choice? Do you have any other suggestions?Appreciate your help.
Mate you really can't go wrong with the yoshi's for that under $300 price range. Quality components, japanese blank etc :) very nice.
Hey bro what rig are you using?
Hey man, generally just unweighted here unless there is 10000 people aha!
I have 7'9 PE 3-5 rod with a 14k reel you think that will work
Sure will mate, that's perfect. Always recommend a 8"-10" rod off the piers, much easier to pump/wind the fish and keep him away from the pylons. The shorter rods, bring them right to the pylons :(
Wow so busy for a weekday, Friday?
Think was a Wednesday aha!
We're are the vids mate..waiting !!!
Hey mate, thank you kindly for the support! I'll get one out I promise. It has honestly been a work, sleep, repeat cycle. :(
I saw a couple packs of birds working off sth head spread wide today @5pm.
On Sunday it was on Rose Bay East end with ppl hooking up.
It all amounts to feeling of extreme excitement and anticipation of big wars on the water this summer imo
What size hooks were u using with the prawns?
Hey mate, was running 3/0 Octopus hooks :)
What a fish. Good on yah. Keep it up yeeeew
Thanks legend, glad you enjoyed the video :) !
Where abouts is this spot been trying to find it mate
Sydney Harbour Finger Wharfs!
\
Hey mate where in Sydney would sell live prawns maybe around Bankstown or parramatta area?
Hey mate not sure out that way? Maybe extreme fishing. A lot of bait shops started to stock them since the blow up of my earlier videos. They are a gun bait for all species, not just kings!
On Duty in Merrylands sometimes have them
All you need to do is jump on google, bait shops near me, then call all of em and find which one sells live prawns. Simple.
@@Fuaarrkk you want to do that for me
Handsome guy, where is this address?😃
Oooooooooo thank you :D ahaha this one super secret spot can't tell :P
Hey bro what rod and reel or combo would you recommend for kingies and salmon?
Hey man, to be honest.. to very different species of fish to fight. You can easily slay some salmon on your bream gear! For Kings you can tackle them on bream gear in certain areas. It's very situational also - I can catch kings off my beach on bream gear, but my luck would decrease off the wharfs of sydney etc. give me some more info my bro and happy to help you out :)
@@FishingwithMarkiMark yeah i could fight a kingie on my 2500 reel but im getting a 5000 for kingfish and many other bugger fish because i needed a heavy setup anyway but thank for the info
Where do you get your live prawns from?
When I have time I catch them, if not from macs bait bar! :)
@@FishingwithMarkiMark where is a good spot to catch them?
Been here since 143 subs i was one and still am who else
Thank you mate, really appreciate the kind words and huge support from the early days. Have a great New Years :) !
Yeah marki mark
Yehaaaaaaa thanks my dude, keep on slayin :)
lol that trevally has insects on it
Hahaha more flavour? :D
what bait did you use and where did you go?
Live prawns and Sydney Harbour mate.
@@FishingwithMarkiMark sorry which part of the harbour. I would like tj try there
Do the hosh posh residents get the poops with all the fisherman there? I can imagine them complaining all day lol
Ahaha yeah they do but it’s the nasty ass fishos that ruin it for the rest of us. I don’t blame them.. the things I’ve seen on that wharf.. I have to disinfect my
Clothing before I return home! Yuck.
Yeah boiii
Yeewwwww thanks mate, hope you've been well!
🔥🔥👑👑
Yehaaa thanks mate!
