    What Do You Do When The Unexpected Happens?
    Film a Contingency Review! In this third episode, we look at a 2017 SsangYong Rexton W (Y290) 2.2 XDi SE Automatic, owned by Dan from the Dan's Cars In The Country RUclips channel:
    / @ghvtg
    This late Rexton W (Y290) is either the final facelift of the first generation of the SsangYong Rexton or a Mark III Rexton according to some SsangYong experts. It came out in late 2012/early 2013, and received a new 2.2 engine in late 2015 for Euro VI emissions regulations.
    On this occasion, I try (and fail) to remember the engine power outputs properly, successfully avoid a speeding fine, hang on round corners, experience incredible torque in comfort, avoid saying a certain word, wish for a higher trim level (again) and generally ramble on about things of no consequence at all. Nothing untoward, then!
    As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

    It’s crazy how much these have changed in the last few years, like Kia they’ve just upped their game from utilitarian towing tanks to rather well trimmed, more refined towing tanks - love it *B

      Absolutely, sir! I just watched a short video on the facelifted current generation Rexton, and that can still two 3.5 tonnes, despite being extremely luxurious and refined. I know that you love the current generation Rexton too, I do hope to be able to drive one myself soon. You are right about the way that SsangYong have come on since the first Rexton was launched in 2001.

      They even came with a five year warranty! The current Rexton has a seven year one...

      Thank you very much indeed! Sadly, my rattly temporary camera mount spoiled things a bit, but the torque was effortless, it was really comfortable and these are extremely good value compared with rivals. I quite liked it, reminded me of the old 2006 Shogun I used to have, but considerably updated.

    A very stylish and practical car and looks the sort of car I would take off road. Always liked the Original Musso when it came out in the nineties. I have the same problem with with fuel and bonnet release on mine, right next to each other!

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 года назад

      Aaarrghh, not the fuel flap and bonnet release being in the same place again! The new Rexton is even better than this Rexton W, although these are fantastic value for what they are. I would absolutely love to try a first generation Musso too.

    A fine review sir! There is no mistaking what model of SsangYong this is if you are following it. It's often funny with some vehicles when they are quite well equipped and there is a throw back to a time gone by such as the clock in this car. I think this car makes a very practical workhorse for a lot less money than some.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 года назад +1

      That's right, there is no mistaking this Rexton W for anything else! Glad you enjoyed the review, even with the good old rattly temporary camera mount. For a base model, I think it is quite well equipped, but the origins of the 2001 original are evident in some areas, such as the clock. It's definitely a practical workhorse, and they are certainly excellent value compared with the competition.

    Nothing not to like really. Good work gathering the information on the Rexton on short notice. Seats look good, driving position great. Boot is enormous.
    A good all round vehicle. Do they come with wood and leather?

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 года назад

      Yes, this is a base model, if you can believe it! It doesn't really seem like it in my opinion. The current generation ones are even more luxurious, of course. The ELX had a leather interior, I believe, can't remember about the wood accents at the moment. Yes, very comfortable seats and a good driving position.

      Yes, it's just had a facelift. The interior on the new model is lovely, especially in that top trim!

    This, I feel, is much nicer than the other South Korean car manufacturers.
    I also like the badging.
    Combination of interior textures are disconcerting, but I believe one can overlook that.
    The control stalks are quite upright, somewhat of a vintage feel, like a classic Toyota.
    It is unfortunate Ssangyong never made it into the US market; I feel they could have made a go like Hyundai and Kia. Daihatsu tried in the early 90's on the west coast of the country and failed, a shame as sine Daihatsu vehicles are quite charming.
    Another great review Joseph!

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 года назад +1

      Yes, quite a mix of interior details older and newer, this has been corrected in the newer model. SsangYong had hoped to enter the American market, but it did not happen, unfortunately. Glad you enjoyed this review, sir, it is certainly very prominent with its badging!

    It's kind of like a better looking version of a early Mercedes ML - being a Kia also rather better built perhaps. I once drove a forbidden fuel first gen ML by the way and boy was that thing slow.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 года назад

      Yes, some people have said that this is related to the first generation ML, although I am not exactly sure. It certainly used Mercedes-Benz engines until 2013 and Mercedes-Benz automatic gearboxes right up until the end. It is a tough and well built car overall. Thank you again for watching!

    Very practical car and ideal tow car, the 3.2 V6 would not be ideal in this instance

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 года назад

      I want to try an old Musso from before the time of the Rexton to see just how strong the old Mercedes six cylinder engine was in the GX220. Other than that, the vast majority of Rextons over here had the alternative powerplants that we don't normally discuss on the channel, but do have a lot of torque for towing.

  • @depniff

    After this maybe you could set up a spin off forbidden fuels channel so you can talk freely about what might be okay engines whilst not contaminating your main channel. Forbidden fuels might even pick up some extra subscribers who like the smell of a well worn rattly d$$s$l

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 года назад +2

      That is a interesting suggestion, but I don't think that it's going to happen somehow. That's what something like Contingency Reviews is for... The channel isn't nearly big enough to merit a second one at the moment. If you look at the back catalogue, you will see that we have been periodically bending the rules since May 2019 in terms of the reviews anyway...
