    By the time you charge the AP20, fit it, connect it, initialise it and what have you small jobs would be completed using traditional methods. Great for bigger jobs or working near columns/walls etc. though for sure!

    The accuracy isn't quite the same the other way around. For example, if you're staking out. In this example the tip of the pole is on a known point. The smarter solution is to have the prism lower on the rod (if your line of sight allows).
    The Autopole is wicked expensive. Like more expensive than a good used total station.

    Great field test! I am thinking about buying this tool, especially for mapping jobs, the error for mapping is negligible. Not sure about construction staking or checking of f.e. formwork, surface checks (asphalt, concrete) where you have high needs for precision (6mm at max is critical in some situations).
    I see that you are using CS30 controller, is there any chance, that you'll be doing a reviews for this particular tablet? I can't find any reviews. Thanks.

    I really like that you use the leica hardware. We also use the exact same equipment. In my opinion the best instruments on the market.
    Really appreciate your content. Keep up the great work. ❤
    A little throw in… if you are measuring mm, i think it would be better to measure the reference with a shorter rod. Otherwise if your bubble is not calibrated there would be an error. An other method could be measuring the reference in 2 faces, to eliminate the error from the bubble.

    Have you tested the ap20 with a tall fiberglass extension rod? Like 25' tall. Is there a height limitation or warning built into the software?

  • @DrewWhitmire-ov6fw
    @DrewWhitmire-ov6fw Год назад

    When can we get an auto measure at maximum height feature? That would be pretty slick I think. Put your rod on the point and the instrument will store the measurement as the prism passes through a maximum elevation

    Some of those errors probably exacerbated with randomised facing/orientation of the 360 prism. The angle of the tilt during the test was quite extreme, I’d like to think when actually using this you’d probably be closer to being plumb, it would be interesting to see if results are better or not when the IMU is compensating less

    • @cavedivemake5492
      @cavedivemake5492 Год назад

      IMU's perform best when they are being moved a lot, if they are static then the relationship between the biases and movement they are trying to measure becomes too small and inaccurate measurement results.

    • @allenlaliberte4223
      @allenlaliberte4223 8 месяцев назад

      You make a good point. The GRZ122 360 Prism is excellent, with an improved accuracy compared to the classic GRZ4 360, largely due to its smaller size. Despite that, errors in the 0.01’ range are not uncommon. I’d like to see the same test with a GRZ101 Mini 360 which has the best short accuracy of the three 360’s. With small size comes reduced tracking and power search capabilities. However the Autopole also helps mitigates tracking issues.

    It is easy to stay focused while doing a dozen shots in a park setting in lovely weather. The advantages of the AP20 are not so evident in such use. Real world, a guy might be taking his 400th shot of the day on a busy noisy street on a blustery, wet day with all sort of things in the way. This is where that automatic correction, both for plumbness and rod height, is going to really save surveyor butt.

Tell a friend which sites in the USA I should apply for to find a job as a surveyor, I worked only in geodetic support for construction along this profile, building houses, schools, kindergartens. Will they take me if I have a Belarusian diploma or do I need to retrain in the USA and where to go to retrain in the USA?

  • @pallen9044

    Cool tech. I'm assuming the ap20 needs to be tilt-calibrated every time it's powered on plus it needs to connect to the gun? That ought to be reflected in the time trial as well.

    • @markmayer5788
      @markmayer5788 2 месяца назад +1

      All you need to do to calibrate the tilt correction is swim it around a bit. You do need to keep moving or it will lose calibration, but it's easy to get it back.

Let say you have been given a certain number of point to stake out and at the job site because of some issue you have to change the position of the stake on the ground.

      Leica AP20 is all about the ability to measure points accurately with speed and tilted pole. Given the ability to tilt pole means that you can measure points that are inaccessible using plumbed poles. Of course, you can always use standard offset routines if speed is not an issue but is vulnerable to errrors. In a construction site, a lot of points are inaccessible using standard poles but can be measured with AP20 tilted poles. AP20 also promotes safety. Imagine surveying along highways with speeding cars and you can't tilted your pole and measurements are not quick enough. Leica AP20 is game changer in my opinion.
