I believe this is from her band's performance at The Summit in Houston, Texas on Nov. 17,1977. Her band included Waddy Wachtel on lead guitar and backing vocals, the late Kenny Edwards on bass and backing vocals, the late Don Grolnick on keyboards, Dan Dugmore on rhythm guitar and pedal steel and Rick Marotta on drums. My wife and I saw this film in the spring of 1978 and then saw Linda in concert in August at the U. of Toledo, where the band was the same as here except for Russ Kunkel on drums.

Linda in her prime...doesn't get any better than that. Had it really bad for her back then during my college years. Such power in her voice...no one like her ever since. Glad I had the opportunity to see her live shows during that time, just a shame what Parkinson's has done. Today's so-called "singers" can't hold a candle to Linda.

I agree with you 100%, but Kelly Clarkson reminds me a lot of Linda Ronstadt.Their independence of how they approach their careers, how they can sing just about ANY song, any genre, and those voices, powerful, lyrical, amazing. And both like to sing barefooted. Haha

I don't think he has ever gotten the recognition that he deserved. He is sort of like drummer kenny aronoff in that regard. But those of us who really know about the history of rock music/ pop music in the US know the truth. Waddy Wachtell has been around

So, Waddy Wachtel is playing lead guitar and slide (guy with the amazing hair) and acoustic on the vocal tune. He was like Linda. She was #1 voice in LA in the late 1960s and all through 1970s. He was that guy on the guitar. Joe Walsh amped up the Eagles. But nobody was better than Waddy. He played with Linda, Warren Zevon, Jackson Browne. Later with Stevie Nicks. Just the most amazing talent. Thank you Waddy!!!!!

+markflem - I really think we can get in trouble rating singers. Let's just say Great is Great. I think Linda is a great vocalist with the sense to cover Great Songs. In addition to the singers other commenters have mentioned, I would like to add Eva Cassidy, June Christy, Rumer, Julie London, Judy Garland, Janis Joplin, Mama Cass, Phoebe Snow, Minnie Ripperton, Roberta Flack, Whitney, Mariah - Etc. I sell music where I work. And I am fortunate to have musicians stop in our store. When, early on, I said someone was the best, the musicians quickly put me in my place (and rightfully so). The musicians generally have great respect for anyone who can produce great music. I hope this makes sense. Best wishes, Ted

There was never any doubt about what she was saying or singing. Having great flavors is a great thing. If not, we would have everyone listening to the same thing, How boring would that be. I would also like to suggest you check out Eva Cassidy. You won't be disappointed. Best wishes, Ted

Great video of a great songs! Makes me think of Warren. Linda is an all-time favorite! A time when woman was an anomoly on the rock and folk scene. Amazing that Waddy looks the same 40 years later!

You could tell by watching her perform how much joy she experienced singing. It must be gutting to lose that feeling.

Linda could sing Happy Birthday and it would be the greatest version you ever heard.

likely the best soundtrack EVER. dated, but every song was absolute gold. my favorite line in the movie is when the girl in the white corvette invites herself in the broadcast booth. she strips in front of martin mull and that's when he says the classic line.

I was at that Ronstadt concert in Houston at the Summit Arena. It's now the Lakewood church.

Yep, most people don't know that this was filmed in Houston, at the former Summit. At the concert, people were confused, because she thanked an L.A. radio station. And yes, the Summit is now Lakewood Church, where Joel Osteen rakes in millions of tax free dollars every year.
