I appreciate you mentioning the transition of games from cartridge to disc. Not having gamed since the Colecovision when the advent of the original Playstation was upon us, the new medium essentially hit me, when in a movie/game rental store. I didnt own a Playstation, and hadn't yet experienced a game on the system. Yeah, it was almost transformative, viewing all these PS1 games on the rental shelves. They were CD's!! And they were packed in these little jewel boxes. Obviously, I'd been purchasing music CD's since 1987. But these were video games! And instead of 'Mario' and 'Sonic' on the cover, the images on the front and back of these CD cases seemed to indicate these video games were for an older audience. I mean, *Sony* was even printed on the box! Didn't get more hip, than that. Tomb Raider, Ace Combat 2, Resident Evil, Porsche Challenge, Treasures of the Deep, NFL GameDay 98. These were the CD game cases i vividly remember seeing stocked on the rental store shelf, and being particularly fixated on. These were games made for adults. Being a male, the images on the Tomb Raider case appealed to me most. However, not only hot Lara in her garter/nylons, but also the graphics of the cliffs, rock formations, foliage, water, and wildlife. From the box, this all appeared very realistic and sim-like (as did these other titles). "And you said these are all compatible with this *Sony Playstation* which only costs $199??" Needless to say, i purchased a Playstation from Walmart either that same day, or the next morning, and rented all of the previous mentioned games. I remember playing Ace Combat 2 and Porsche Challenge the most, and marveling how impressive SCEA was able to render the Porsche Boxster, in digital form, on a console no-less. Of course we hadn't seen anything yet, with Gran Turismo and it's 140 real-life vehicle stable/11 race tracks, on the horizon. But this was before that. Thanks for the video. Vin

It was a magical time when gaming switched from Cartridges to Discs. The PlayStation 1 was when it was really advanced from the days of the Sega CD and Sega Saturn. PlayStation 1 was definitely a console geared towards older kids and adults. Sure it had it's kid friendly games but Sony knew that they wanted to target the kids who grew up with Nintendo in the late 80's and early 90's and now they've grown older and want their games to age with them. So we started to get our Duke Nukem titles, Grand Theft Auto titles, Medal Of Honor, Fighting games, Horror titles etc. I miss renting games from a local Mom & Pop video store, Blockbuster, Family Video, Hollywood video, grocery stores, and other random places that had them. Gran Turismo was definitely "the" racing game to own during it's time. Such a magical time we had in the 90's with gaming. That's sadly what's missing with modern gaming in 2024. The wow and fun factor is just not there.

I have been playing games since before I could talk. C64 in about 86 is where I started. I have always loved pretty much all games. I would play anything and everything I could get my hands on. It was like a whole new world of excitement playing a new console kiosk at a store, or when a friend has a console you don't. I still remember that feeling of being in a whole new world seeing the N64 with Mario 64 at the time at the store. Bought one with Goldeneye and Mario after I saved up and played with a group of friends for literally two days straight.

The Commodore 64 is such an iconic gaming computer of the 80's. My brother and I were the same way when it came to games. We just loved playing any game that we got our hands on and it didn't matter what console, handheld or Computer it was released on. I did love checking out the various Video Game Kiosks that were found at various stores, Malls etc. Getting to play a new console that friend got was an amazing way to experience a new console and games. I loved the Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64 blew my mind when I got to play it at Best Buy on the huge Multi-screens that they used to do back in the day. They would have like 20 of those CRTs all hooked up to display one giant image and I remember they had the Nintendo 64 hooked up and you got to play Super Mario 64.
Thank you so much for checking out my latest discussion vlog and for participating. I really appreciate it my friend.

I don’t care about the so called ‘console wars’ nor do i have any specific loyalty to a certain brand. I’m in it for the games themselves that are available for each console, during the different consoles per generation. I own every console from Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft Xbox. And most of the Sega ones as well. My connection with Nintendo and Sega is the lowest is guess, just because i played so few of their consoles when i was younger and my parents couldn’t afford to buy these. I have my favorites on the Mega Drive, NES and SNES but really got into gaming and collecting when i was older and was able to buy my own consoles and games.
I try to stay away from discussions on which console is better or which games everybody thinks you should play. I get all the information that i need right here on RUclips and then make up my own mind. That’s why your channel and also Dean’s channel are valuable to me as you guys give great insights in games i might like.
A great video Jeremy, i really enjoyed listening to your opinions and the points you brought out. Thanks for sharing!

My brother and I have always been about the games over the consoles. I've seen so many different console wars over the years and some of them really divided gamers. Sometimes people don't understand that not everyone was able to play all of the different consoles that were released during the last 40 years. Not everyone's family had the money to buy and support multiple consoles at a time.
I avoid the discussions where people are trying to convince other people that their console is the right choice, and why you should be like them. I never try to force someone to play any game or console just because I do. I do my research and have learned about a lot of great games thanks to RUclips and some great people here on the platform.
I'm glad you enjoyed my latest discussion vlog bro. I really appreciate you taking the time to participate in this discussion my friend. Take care and have an amazing day.

I didn't know others into gaming from the C-64 on I was alone & knew little about all the consoles. I had a friend who bought a new SNES & "Wing Commander", so I bought a SNES just to play that game & other flight & car sim type games, never once bought a typical Nintendo brand games, just not for a adult then.
I obtained a PS1, PS2 & PS3 just to play "Twisted Metal", just it was a loyalty to a popular game franchise, more than a console fanboy. Once I got a original Xbox, it quickly became my favorite & it was a better console in many ways over the Sony ones I had bought so many of.
I had to wait until the 360 was out before I could buy a original Xbox & late 2009 before I could find & afford a 360 system. I am into whichever console has the best quality & game series. Now I'm far more drawn to the modern console I can play offline or to Jailbreak for preserving my expensive 8th gen collection, which is clearly Sony.

I appreciate you checking out another one of my discussion vlogs Dean. Wing Commander is a classic on the Super Nintendo. Twisted Metal was one of my favorite series on the PlayStation 1, I couldn't tell you how many hours I sunk into the different Twisted Metal titles over the years. There were some great series released during the 6th to 8th gens. I do have some series that I really enjoyed over the years and a few game studios that I do enjoy supporting because of their wonderful games. Sony is definitely the winner for being able to Jailbreak their consoles for modern games. Thank you for sharing your story bro.

enjoyable video, brother. It's funny how our experience is kinda polar opposite of each other. Truthfully, before GTA III, i had become lukewarm on the Playstation brand. And while i owned the PS1 and was set to buy a PS2 at the time, I always felt like I was "settling." Before you block my account, let me explain what I mean:
As a gamer, I was never Japanesecentric. While I LOVED PS1 titles such as Medal of Honor 1&2, Crash Bandicoot series, Road Rash series, and some of the sports games, alot of the Asian influenced titles didn't match my "Western" gaming pallete. There were many games which appealed to me (MOH Allied Assault, No One Lives Forever 1&2, Microsoft Flight Combat Simulator, Hardball baseball etc). The common denominator being these were PC-only titles. The dilemma: I had *"PC envy"* without the money for a gaming PC. Enter, Microsoft Xbox! From the moment the initial rumors started, I was already sold, and pro-Xbox. This was even before the first conceptual drawings leaked. Why? PC gaming titles, baby. Little by little, gaming journalists (they were sold out hacks back then too) began sh1tt1ng on Microsoft's prospects. Accusations such as, "Even if this Xbox thingy comes out, it won't be a real console. Because it's software will be limited to PC games and sims." My thoughts at the time being, these journalists say this like it's a bad thing?? LoL. I want one, NOW! Ultimately, I did purchase a PS2 when GTA III released, and an Xbox when the S Controller/Jet Set Radio Future & Sega GT Racing "pack-in" was offered. Coincidentally, I believe it was both the success of GTA and also Xbox's market presence, which led the revolution for more mature/adult, FPS, and sim titles, on console. And thereby more or less, relegating PC exclusives the way of the dinosaur. Thank you Rockstar, and thank you Microsoft.
And thank you for reading :) Will post additonal thoughts, on your fine video, in another thread.

I appreciate you stopping by Vinnie for my newest vlog. I'm glad that you enjoyed this one as it's another topic that's been on my mind for quite some time. The PlayStation 1 made me fall in love with the brand and I was super excited for the PlayStation 2 come out. I wish I could have got it on launch night but we did get it a few weeks later on. I had a pre-order ticket for the PlayStation 2 but my father didn't want to go to the midnight launch, so we had to wait for the next shipment from Kay Bee Toys lol. Man there's a store I miss from my childhood.
The PlayStation brand definitely has a Japanese centric focused for a majority of their games. The Medal of Honor series was amazing on the PS1, I loved the Crash Bandicoot games. My Wife doesn't play many games but she enjoyed the original Crash Bandicoot on the PS1 because an old boyfriend had it at the time and she liked playing it. I actually gave her one of my extra PlayStation 1 consoles and a copy of Crash Bandicoot as a gift when we first started dating 15 years ago. I'm lucky to have a partner that support my crazy video game hobby and passion lol.
I used to be big into PC gaming in the 90's and early 2000s. I still have all of my old big box PC games in storage.
The Original Xbox was definitely similar to PC gaming as it was one hell of a powerful console for it's time. I was just very skeptical of the Xbox brand at the time of it's launch as I knew Microsoft made really shitty PC games and I had no faith that their console would be good. I was definitely wrong on that and I have Halo to thank for that. It made me fall in love with the console and I eventually bough the entire North American Library for the console. Gaming definitely matured from the games are for Kids, to some games are made for adults with Grand Theft Auto, Halo, Resident Evil etc.
I always enjoy reading your long detailed comments that I can see you put actual thought into writing. It's not just "Great video mate" lol

I remember playing the NES in the early 90's at a classmate's house, his uncle had one and when my classmate invited me for his birthday we played Video Games, it was a lot of fun. Then in the 90's another friend had the SNES and used to play Super Mario World, later his mom bought him the N64 and we used to spend afternoons (and some Summer Nights) playing Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64 and some others but those were the ones we played the most. In March 2018 I decided to buy a Nintendo Switch, my first Nintendo console, I was loving it a lot playing Mario Kart but then in May 2023 I made the mistake buying a Gaming PC and my dear sister made me sell it and now I regret it in many ways because my Graphics card is Outdated and my PC keeps crashing when I'm watching videos on RUclips and my 2018 PC stopped working. I'm saving money for a PS5 and the next Nintendo console and I don't care what my sister says.

The NES was so awesome in the late 80's and early 90's. I do miss those care free childhood days playing Nintendo. The Super Nintendo was awesome as well and I loved Super Mario World. I have a lot of great memories of playing the Nintendo 64, especially Mario 64, as it's one of my all-time favorite titles. I bought my Nintendo Switch in 2019 and I've loved it ever since. I'm sorry your sister made you sell it off. PC gaming is just way too annoying for me to deal with these days, so I stick to console gaming. I hope you can get your PlayStation 5 soon bro. Thank you checking out my latest vlog Miguel, I truly appreciate it my friend.

@@AsianSleepy I really miss playing Super Mario World at a neighbor's house, we used to spend hours and hours (days, weeks) playing it and I really hope that Nintendo decides to release a Physical version for the Switch/New console. I'm saving money for a PS5 and I will try to get one next month or August at most, my Gaming PC keeps crashing all of a sudden and I understand why you hate PCs, from now on I will use it for Editing or watching videos on RUclips.

When I grew up... it wasn't about what console you had, it was about just playing games. Then at some point, I feel like it was when Xbox came out... it became really hardcore. I know I was too young really for the Sega Vs SNES part.. I honestly just loved my Genesis. I wanted a SNES but I wanted them both not just one or the other. Lol. But yeah, when Xbox came out... I think I was in Junior High and me and the fellows really went seperate ways. The consoles were too expensive to get both so some of us got PS2s... and others got Xbox. We always use to argue about which was better... Well the PS2 has a bunch of RPGS! YEAH XBOX HAS HALO and way better online games!!... Etc, etc. Nowadays I just love all consoles. I prefer to play my PS5 at the time because its the newest console I have and I love the exclusives.

    • @AsianSleepy
      @AsianSleepy  3 месяца назад +1

I've always just been about playing the games themselves and not the brand or console. When I was growing up I had a lot friends and other kids that were just hardcore into one console over the other. Lol...I remember at lunch time listening to friends fight over which console was better, Super Nintendo or the Sega Genesis. I've seen a lot of the different console wars over the years.
The consoles being expensive is definitely one of the main factors that divided a lot of gamers. You couldn't afford to buy and support multiple consoles, so you had to choose one and stick to it over the others. I was lucky as I was able to obtain a lot of these different consoles and own them at the same time. Buying them from others or getting deals on used consoles at Thrift stores when no one else did that. I do have fond memories of 6th gen gaming as I was in High School when the Original Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Game Cube were out. Each console had it's own great stand out titles and style of games that defined their brand. PlayStation was definitely the king of RPGS, Nintendo was the king of Mario and adventure titles and Xbox was the King with Online multiplayer with Xbox Live and Halo 2.
I'm glad to see you back on RUclips bro, I really appreciate you taking the time to participate in my latest discussion vlog.

Gaming is too big of a hobby to be saddle down to just one brand. I learned that from the beginning with the VCS, Intellevision and Colecovisison. Later moving on to Nintendo, Sega, NEC and on through the rest. I enjoy this medium too much to limit myself like others do. I get that there may be personal reasons to do that (pick a side and stick with it) but when you see the level of vitrol that can be thrown at the ones you dont play is just wrong. Play the games... not the brands. If that means you branch out to playing on other hardware you didnt initially want to... so be it. You may end up likeing what it has to offer outside of the preferred brand. That is how we learn to adapt and adjust and become better well rounded individuals.
When it comes to the corporations behind the platforms... yeah I will criticize them for making dumb decisions. but i never once held a grudge against the platform itself. I dont have to buy a platform brand new, I will buy it second hand because I believe in playing the games for it more-so than giving "new" money to the corporation who made it.

    • @AsianSleepy
      @AsianSleepy  3 месяца назад +2

I agree my friend that gaming is definitely way too big of a hobby to limit yourself to just one brand. You miss out on so many wonderful titles by only playing the consoles for one brand. It really limits the selection of games that you get to choose from. I definitely understand that some people do have personal reasons for limiting themselves to a specific brand of consoles. It's definitely expensive to collect for multiple consoles at a time, especially in 2024. I also understand that when most of us were children, our parents would usually only buy you one console or the other. It's either Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis, not both. I was lucky as my parents bought us several different consoles over the years plus my brother and I would save our allowances to buy used consoles from friends who were moving on to the new consoles. I remember getting a buddies NES for $20 because he needed it to have enough to buy his Super Nintendo, so I got a great backup for a good price in the 90's.
I never could understand the people who wanted to put others down for playing games on a different brand. I knew plenty of Sega fan boys who hated Nintendo fan boys and vise versa. I would never put someone down or make fun of them for playing a certain console or game. Gaming is meant to be fun and should be enjoyed that way. You do become a better more rounded individual when you learn to grow, adapt and adjust as an adult. Grown men acting like toddlers online is not the sign of a well adjusted adult lol.
I have no problems criticizing these various corporations behind these consoles. They've all made decisions that I didn't agree with and I vote with my wallet when they do something I don't like. Make a game 100% digital only, I don't buy it, make your console have DRM, forced online only play, I boycott it. At the end of the day I know these companies only care about our wallets and not us.
I really appreciate you taking the time to check out my newest vlog Steve. I hope you have an amazing week my friend. Thanks for the comment.

Yes, It still amazes me how we still have console wars in 2024. Some people really do enjoy being involved in these consoles wars but it does nothing for me.
