"Trickin Pickin" performed by Doug Waterman
Love the speech on bottled water, I agree. (Then opens storage locker to reveal case of bottled water)😂
Yeah that's the millennials stash.
Personally I'm just fine with whatever water is available, but I do buy the cheap stuff from Menards $2.99 for a case iirc to keep in the work truck comes in handy for the really hot days when we run through the 5 gallon igloo.
@@WoodNMetalWorkshopYou don't have an ice maker and a bread machine in your work truck?
It amazes me the people that complain about gas being $4-5/gal will buy bottled water at $2/pint or $16/gal of water (soda machine). Or even $0.50/bottle. I pay $0.002/gal or $2.0/1000 gal. No way am I paying $10-16 a gallon.
When you work out of your truck you don't have access to anything on site. And we rarely get to leave site. So a case of water in the truck is really our only option. But I agree on a note that has fresh water free and available you would be a fool not to use it
This is a great description Doug - and despite having followed you since very early days, it's great to have the guided tour. There's much I had forgotten. If I was way younger and single I'd be looking to join you!
Quite amazing just all that you have achieved.
Incredible progress since watching you welding in your yard.
I still can't believe you built this thing In your yard. What an awesome journey it has been.
Doug and Stockton Rush would have been good friends
Yes indeed. I have nothing but admiration for that man.
Forth
Nearly an hour of Sv Seeker Perfect for a dull Monday afternoon here in the Uk 🇬🇧
Cheers Doug
Thanks for the tour Captain Pumpkin 😊
Any time!
You are awesome. I'm so impressed by your attitude and energy. Such a blessing.
Thank you so much!
Drinking game challenge, take a shot ever time Doug says, "Stay Off My Boat"
Yes. And drinking games will get you off my boat too. : )
I thought the boat was amazing until i saw that octopus on the ships wheel, it is so cool that it makes everything else look mediocre no matter how awesome it is. I also loved the "I got some drugs in here, you'll make do with that or you'll bring your own" line 😉.
What a cool video that takes me back to watching your videos from Tulsa while i thought, "Damn i hope he makes it".
And here you are. Great work Doug! You should be very proud.
You have definitely earned my respect. To build a complex machine with different and varied systems and make it all work together is a feat in of itself.
I spent 30 years in the Navy and I've been out for 33 that means I'm an old man but I do remember heavy seas. If you ever get into heavy seas you are going to have a mess. There is so much/many items throughout your vessel that is not secure.
Thanks Pops we'll be careful.
@@SVSeeker You will stiil be surprised. Do not underestimate it captain Ahab.
@@karelvandervelden8819 Surprised, no. Elevated heart rate sure. That's sort of the draw is it not?
@@SVSeeker May the learning curve not be too steep sea´ed.
@@SVSeekeradd a bunch of magnets and she'll be right mate
Bro I don't know how peeps have told you but what you have done, how you done it is extraordinary and how you promote peeps to just do something is testimony on how bad ass you are thankyou
Cool! A great trip around your boat. Thanks for sharing....

I just love it. So practical…”stay off my boat!” Be responsible!
That's one hell of an accomplishment. I've followed you for years. Congratulations.
Oh, the stuff I could learn ….. looks like a butt load of fun.
Amazing tour of the boat!! Seeker looks ready to go sailing!! Love seeing my pictures at the end of the videos!! Thanks for sharing
"Sailing Trials and Modifications" is up now for patrons. : )
Awesome tour!!
So how does heat kill? When core body temperature rises too high, everything breaks down: The gut leaks toxins into the body, cells begin to die, and a devastating inflammatory response can occur. Part of the insidiousness of heat-related deaths is how quickly they can happen.
It's like a gun. You have to be stupid enough not to know what you're doing with it.
So great to see the walk though first day training video. But just a refresher for me, been watching for a few years now. Such an amazing journey. I would love to work on Seeker some day. I too have been inspired to turn my too small of a shed into a work space and get projects done!
Great to hear!
What a great tour!
the thing i like about you most is your 2 attitudes....positive.....dont give a rats for convention. hope it inspire many to take there head out there proverbial and live a little.
Man it is so good to see a video from you. I've seen the autopilot shorts, but this was a great episode.
I didn't hear the banging in the background. You sure that knocked out as well.
Washington from the beginning pulling around sheets of metal in the snow in the front yard😮 did a great job is coming along🎉
Wow. That’s amazing! You have been inspiring me to not be afraid to just start on my projects and see where it takes me! And I would love to work on you boat one day!
I so love this boat it always give me a smile when I'm stressed with family issues :-) Book me in for your first Atlantic crossing but all I sailed is a round Kattegat trip. Can't wait seeing her under sails and eating up sea miles.
It's a beautiful boat!
The company Hundested here in Denmark is pronounced hunnested (silent d).
Im waiting for the heating system install ! Glad to see someone else sailing around with metalstorage, welding machine etc... Im not alone
We put one of those diesel heaters into the pilothouse. I got two more for the cabins below. Seems an odd thing to work on right now, but it is on the list.
Thanks for sharing may you and your crew become shellbacks mate.
I have watched you since your first load of steel. AMAZING
Great to see it in water! Missed a bunch, but so glad to see she's finally sailing!
Hawse Pipe was misidentified. Thanks Doug!
I don't have a Hause pipe.
This man is the redundant! He's making sure that boat is not sinking!
"Yeah.... Stay off my boat." Love it.
Nothing wrong with a mommy's boy on a boat, those are often the sane ones after months at sea. Just being able to think about your loved ones back home when work is tough and the days are long. It's what keeps you grounded. I'm so excited to follow Seeker as she starts roaming the great blue tundra.
You take them on your boat. Best of luck to you.
Nice tour.
Always love the long videos. Dude the boat is bigger than your old house.
Sure is
Just one thing your hot tub got a lot bigger.
Best captain, best boat that the internet built!
Ha! Not by a long shot, but thank you.
Captain Bligh! I like your rule's. It's Called common Sense #1 bring a great attitude or get off my boat. 43 years ago I was taught to treat that boat like you're standing on a clock or a compass. For instance if you are ask where the buoys is at. You don't just say off the starboard bow you say, Bowie at 2:00 approximately 500 ft. The same with any debris in the in the water. And communication. Always be aware of your surroundings. for me I even paying attention on what corse we are heading and how long we have Ben traveling. And for the cigarettes smokers you always tail when and where you fire up a cigarette because that is a open flame. And I better not smell it or get off my boat. Doug your dream is no longer a dream. The day you step on my boat the fun begins and the work never ends. And one thing I cannot stand is when someone says there is nothing to do today. That burn's my ass. First thing I say you ar on a boat dumbass. You think there's nothing to do get off my boat. Oh after watching your videos I built myself a shop. Thanks for the sharing your videos.
great video
Famous Last Words: "Stay off my boat Pumpkin!"
LMAO I would be more then happy to come stay on your boat, Thank you for the tour, love the way you keep track of all your stuff LOL. Super Vid :)
What a amazing thing to see you come this far, congratulations. You prove that everything is possible if you put enough effort to learn, time and energy into project you can succeed.
I have only 1 question as a followup to a thing you bought up some years ago, in regards to the school bus windows. you previously mentioned you will build some protective blinds of some sort to put up in case of high waves and rough seas.... Any solution to that potential nightmare getting the windows blown in..?
No screens yet, but nightmare is an exaggeration. Most sailboats have no protection in the cockpit. If the windows do blow out, we just get wet and the water drains back into the sea.
Lookin forward to the video of Seeker sailing under wind power.
Coming.
@@SVSeeker I'm also looking forward to your views on her inherent stability.
You compare yourself to the wright brothers pioneering flight?
I admire the Wright brothers. And endeavor to emulate their determination, problem-solving, and courage. So yes. And perhaps you should compare yourself to the Wright brothers.
You did it Doug! And you are doing it. Right from the intro, -with the boat from afar- this felt like a milestone, like the full manifestation and realization. And within all the parts and systems and spaces you showed us, I somehow felt your content. Hats off to you captain!
Do you have a pre flow clean out for your rain water? When it starts to rain it fills up a tube that’s about a half a gallon before it starts into the tank so anything on deck is caught at the first part of when it rains.
Yeah, don't switch the valves until the metal grindings and bird shit has mostly washed off.
nice layout, looking good. Thanks Doug....
You should have done somthing dramatic with that stowaway water you found
Wow she's come a long way
Thanks. When I look around I see a lot of things that still need work. If you want to never be without something for your mind and hands, a boat is perfect.
Born in Pascagoula Ms
Family all around you.
Was retiring to a live aboard above mobile bay. Surgery stopped all that.
Friends & family have seen you there.
Nephew drive by you & filmed your boat for me. All cool
Lots of fine folks down here. I'm enjoying the area immensely.
Great tour, Doug. Do you have any protective cover for the induction hob? In a busy multi-use galley, that piece of glass is easily cracked. Another sailing channel (Teulu Tribe) recently broke their hob while trying to open a nearby coconut. Not the most likely mishap, perhaps, but still not good for crew morale!
throw a recirculater loop on the sink and a switch for a pump, flip it on for a minute and off if you need hot water and it will be right there, save some water that way
Your engine room is my play ground that I would sleep in.
Nice tour 2x👍
Wouldn't putting zip ties between the golf balls. going down like a bike chain keep them from overlapping each other? Idk if that would cause a issue or not.
Maybe, but so far, having them pinched between the mast and the lazy jacks seems to be doing the trick.
it's to bad this boat has turned you into a grumpy old man with an atitude i watched yo videos from the be ginning when you laid the steel plating on the ground you really have change good by Doug hope you have good life
Dude, I don't think I've been happier in my life. If you're just put off that I don't take shit from people, I think you're just seeing the part of growing old that makes all older folk happy. We just don't give a shit about you getting offended. : )
The only bottled water I grew up on came out of a creek and into a army green canteen.
We have one of the safest tap waters in the world, but people still buy it in bottles.
Looking at the sea chest i was wondering if you can make an air cooling using the sea water and running it thrue a Ratiator with a blower.
The water here is like bath water. Maybe if you ran a hose down 60 ft, but you're not doing that in an anchorage.
Oh ic. 🤔
Refrigerator/freezer drawers need magnets to keep them shut while still being able to open without latching
They have magnets. That was not enough for even 10 degrees of heel.
You have water tight doors in case of flooding but are the compartments water tight i.e. are the wire raceways sealed when they go from one compartment to another? Add are you going to add dogs to the topside hatches? Those will be handy if you plan on going 'Round the Horn' or sailing the North Atlantic in the winter.
Ha! If the water gets that high, we are not on the surface anymore. : ) And the deck hatches can be lashed or bolted. No dogs needed.
@@SVSeeker I'm am old Submarine sailor and when you mention WT Doors I assume you can seal off the compartment to trap air and keep some buoyancy.
I have followed your channel for years and love your attention to detail and engineering on the fly. I am a plank owner of 2 submarines and well aware of the time it takes to build, test (and fix the boo-boos) before even sea trials can be attempted. Then fixing the stuff that broke on sea trials (one boat had 9 sea trials before we where delivered to the Navy).
Take your time and do it right.
@@davidrediger6407 Absolutely not. It's a sailboat. Once it leaves the surface, it's generally a one-way trip. Any boat can be a submarine once. : )
@@SVSeeker HA HA HA So true. It can only be a submarine if its number if surfaces equal the number of dives.
Thanks for the tour.
Are you using the poop deck to poop? I just noticed after ten years of watching there is no place to drop a deuce when its storming.
You can hand your ass over that water from the cat walks, but I'd not recommend it in storm weather. : )
Wires & pipes thru water tight walls.
Are they sealed ?
Ha! If the water gets that high, we are not on the surface anymore. : )
Doug, I know you hate suggestions, but I'd add a mechanical filter to whatever tap you use for drinking water, especially if you hang near the coastline. Rainwater picks up a lot of dust from the air, mostly pollen, but also other nasties. Especially if you are close to cities, industry, sandy deserts or active volcanoes. Spring water gets filtered by the soil, but collected rainwater does fill up with muck. You could also add an active carbon filter to remove any odd taste, but since you are adding chlorine to the water it would likely get quickly saturated and might not be worth the effort. I see online that they do sell washable water sediment filters, I assume for homes with wells.
No, I love suggestions. I hate insistences. And you're welcome to bring a filter, and take it with you when you leave. I lived drinking from a spring for years. If the crayfish were alive it's good water.
@@SVSeeker Spot on, the rainwater tank I used to drink from had green moss (a healthy sign) and frogs. I'm 75 and consider bottled water complete BS, though to be fair I live in a country with very clean air and water.
Doug, what an amazing journey, thanks for sharing
Love it. One thing that i see stifle creativity is the idea of perfection. This is the embodiment of "hot process" learning. F it, build it, break it, build it again but better.
Well said!
@@SVSeekermy coworker used to say 'perfucked' when we finished up for the day doing hard, rewarding, hands on work
What's the highest speed you've achieved with, and without the sails? I am kind of curious how much of a difference they make with a full steel boat.
8 knts
I see lots and lots of cargo netting and bungees in your future. Hope you sail to Alaska some day.
I got them already, but so far I'm impressed with all the stuff I thought would move that actually stays in place on a 25 degree heel.
That was a very comprehensive and informative tour. Thanks!
And long..... Thanks
bwhhahahahahaha "no pumpkin, not on my boat" i love it.
God i love your rules.
Safety 3rd, love it.
Dream of mine as it would for Billy Budd, would be a crew man for the exploration of Seeker,
Suggestion if you hadn't thought of and implemented it yet. For the inventory in the boxes and engine/mechanical rooms, add another one of those cheap tablets and put a copy of the ship's inventory on it so it can be easily accessed and updated without the use of your phone Doug. If you wanted to get that high tech, you could also add QR code stickers to the outside of the boxes and storage compartments so anyone can tell at a glance what's in there and update the inventory as they use or replenish various items.
It's on my phone for now. That's a likely a high tech as it gets till we build in some storage.
I would change those windows they will break with rough seas and the vibration of the engine
We'll it sure as hell takes more than engine vibration. You must have never ridden on a school bus. And yes, they can blow out if hit by a wave. That will be an exciting day. The pilothouse is designed to take the water.
Woohoo can see my floor tile!
I'm wondering if the solar system could be better optimized. Theres a lot of shadows on the arrays, so it would make sense to several individual regulators.
We 4 sets of 3 panels in parallel and two Victron MPPT controllers. ruclips.net/video/8Sg9wXX31vw/видео.html
Doug, do you have a storage box somewhere filled with fishing gear for fresh and emergency food supply?
I have one fishing rig. And that pretty much says how I feel about fishing. Bring your own.
I've been to Florida on land and I have to ask, are there no bugs on the water?
Not this year. I've been swarmed by termites one night and seen about 6 mosquitos, and I'm anchored about .1 mile from a swamp.
13:35 heh, this guy talks a big game but I bet he has air conditioning on his boat in less than 3 years
I think you're missing the up side of no AC. It really cuts down on the number of pussies that think they will come aboard.
I think the part I most appreciate is the acknowledgement that the project will never be truly finished in that the boat set up and function will evolve as you learn. Thanks for the tour.
Век живи и век учись ...
I know anti-glare film can be expensive but have you thought about trying it on a few windows to see if it will help with the night visibility? Been following you for years and love all the progress since getting the sheets of steel delivered. 👏👏
I think that would go against Doug's kiss (keep it simple stupid) principal just opening the window.
I'll try wearing my sunglasses at night. ....but best to just open the window. : )
Canting the windows downward would be a great way to solve this problem. We are past that at this point though.
I will probably never get the honor of sailing on this wonderful vessel. This video was perfect to see all the workings. I watched every second of it and enjoyed it the whole time!
Thanks Doug!
Can the fuel pump be used to transfer fuel to different tanks/reservoirs?
Yes, so we can actually trim the boat by moving fuel and clean it on the way from one tank to the other.
@@SVSeeker Awesome, useful if you need to get water out or introduce some stabilizer. Cool!
Ok pumpkin hahahaha. I love it
As a long-time viewer, it was great to see all the systems as one in this overview; each one so sensible and I dare say intuative, once you are introduced to them.
So Happy for you, its a living breathing thing, and now you are passing the ideas and lifestyle of making to others... proud of you man! Just dont stop doing regular updates please! Stay well!
You did not show us your life raft
Life raft?? He’s got 2 tendys! Stay off his boat pumpkin!
That tender is designed for rescue work in the North Sea. If you'd prefer to get in an unpowered bag of air, you will have to bring it. : )
Imagine suggesting that a life raft would be a good idea, are you some kind of an expert? We hate experts or even anyone with any sense. Pumpkin. 😂
Rain water and no AC….Heavenly! 😊
Doug on your freezer many times the older they are they are actually more efficient. My bosses husband is an energy advisor and he would take the older freezers over the newer ones. Not to mention they will keep kicking long after a newer one has kicked the bucket.
Yep, you're ahead of me. That video is coming soon. : )
@@SVSeeker just didn't want you buying a new freezer needlessly. Take what you save and buy some more diesel
How about belaying pins for your sailing station in the pilot house?
Baskets are better as we will frequently be adjusting the lines.
How's your wifi?
Starlink! Love it.
I can’t wait to board seeker, waiting at Australia 🇦🇺…. All the very best on exploring the globe 🌎
what is your first desired location to visit? or rather where are you excited to visit in sv seeker? thanks for all your devotion and hard work, its been a hoot to watch your progress over the years.
Ya know, I really don't have a preferred place to visit. I've met good folks all along and this is a fine place too. It's great to have the open water for sailing so this fits my needs for now.
@@SVSeeker You are a pirate, the Carribean calls you.
Idea from a non-seaman but: Would it be possible to make a moveable cleat system, kinda like the moveable tiedowns in a truck bed?
Yes I looked into those. What we have is a 3/4" threaded nut welded in at the corner of every tile in the floor.
Hello Dug. Regarding Pex pipe with engine coolant. I have no idea how it is resistible for abrasion, but every boat have a lot of vibration when engine is running. I would consider to use some kind of rubber gromet for hole which shown at 52.00 of this video.
Best wishes and hope to see you in Europe :)
Keep watching. I'll let you know if it's ever a problem. : )
Amen to getting rid of bottled water!
are you charged for anchoring there? Or is that considered open waters.
I don't know of any US shoreline where they charge you to anchor. Anchor locations are sometimes restricted due to navigation, structures, environment, and sometimes overreaching power grabs. But without reason, it starts treading on the Constitution. Mooring fields will often have a fee, but you're essentially renting a mooring.
