As you cut the tree, I said out loud, "there it goes", and after you dropped it, I said to my wife, that's going to be a lot of firewood. She doesn't understand why I watch these channels. Lol
I handled stumps on my homestead by getting a 55 gallon metal barrel cut the bottom out of it and cut hole in the sides around the bottom . Sat that down over the stump and built a fire in the barrel . Burned the stump to the ground . Eventually I cut the barrel in half and had two stump burners.
Kyle, if you need a rake there not too hard to make out of scrap wood and some pegs. All you really need is a drill bit and a knife. Probably make it in an afternoon. There may be videos on you tube about it. You can also use nails for the tines.
Another great day at the cabin. But I'm kinda missing winter. I like the snow and the cold. But then again this is a great time of year to get some work done.
I miss the winter too. Its my favorite season by far. This is a great time to get things done. Not too hot yet and very little bugs. Thanks for watching!
Good work! That tree debris in front of the Cabin might be called mulch. Rake it up and you might have mud! Mulch might be more better! That 50 gal drum is toast but the wood stove pieces; door, feet etc. might serve you in a later project; workshop etc.
Very cool! I lived off the grid for a short while on the U.P., and there's something about cutting up a tree, hauling, splitting, and stacking. It's really hard work but enjoyable, and rewarding. And best of luck grouse hunting, the best upland bird hunting there is...in my humble opinion.
Kyle, you really should save those kit parts to make another barrel stove, they are the only thing you would have to buy to make a stove from a 45 gal barrel. Cheers, Bob
It is good to see Spring is arriving at the cabin. It doesn't look like you will have to worry about running out of firewood once you get the pine split up. ; ) Take care.
Your videos are a welcome distraction. Its always cool seeing what you're up to at the cabin. Our state parks are reopening, but think they will be overwhelmed with folks. We're not much for crowds anyway. So, we're just enjoying the our property & getting outdoors as much as possible before it gets too hot. Keep the videos coming! Yes I'm sure the state parks are going to be really crowded. It is a nice time of year to be in the woods. Not too hot and not many bugs yet. Thanks for watching im glad you like the videos.
Kyle I must say I really enjoy your videos I love what you're doing out there in the wilderness I love you little cabin thank you for sharing see you on the next one
(This is Tom, not Sandra.) That stinks that you had to dig yourself out on the way into your cabin. Sorry!!! I would've thought that that snow would have been slushy and not still frozen. Glad you made it in OK!!! Take care. See ya!!!
I hope your not planning on bringing equipment back there. I sure like your style so far. Me n my dog harvested 5 cords this winter from 12/1500’ away. All up hill. Was not EZ but so rewarding for the both of us! I do agree with a that commentor on getting a better 4x4. Maybe with a snow plow? I don’t know your situation though. Thanks for this👍
Hi Kyle, nice to see bare ground, EH? When you can, you need to get yourself a Polaris 6By with a winch and mud tires, it will save you so much time and energy. Mine is a 1993 and has never let me down. Anyway, good to see you back and doing what you love to do, that's the Alaskan in you. Take care my friend
hey Kyle, Great tree felling. Been doing that over here off the GFT. Still snow in the woods here. Got bear problems now. One show up every night around dusk and stays sometimes all night right by the cabin. Must have found something to keep him interested. Really enjoy your videos. Got a suggestion.... hang your tire chains on your tires so that you only have to move forward (or back wards) just a foot and you don't have to dig them out of the ground. Much easier. (learned that from trucking for years). Take care!! You are coming along nicely on your property.
There is still a little bit of snow in the woods here too but very little. I haven't had any bear issues yet, and haven't seen any sign of them lately which I'm okay with. I'm sure they will be around at some point. Thanks for the tip on the chains I will definitely try that next time! Thanks for watching

Hi Kyle. I’m so glad to see green grass and liquid water over here! I imagine you have thought of this already, but a medium sized tractor with a bucket and/or a plow would scrape up the mulch and drag the snow out to melt in minutes. Drag fire wood out, clear a garden, etc. And they are cheap to buy, run, and easy to fix.
War Monger We have a small Case tractor with a bucket. We don’t use the tractor, we only have a couple acres. My dad gave it to my husband. I’m sure it needs a good tuning! I think something like that would be handy for Kyle.
Hey Kyle, maybe it won't be long before you can get you vehicle close to the cabin. Early start on your firewood is good and close to the cabin is a plus. Are you going to be planting you a garden this spring? You might have already said previously, I just can't remember. Hard work will build character and I can tell your no stranger to hard work. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Not only that but firewood whether in log rounds or split like Kyle's, should never be in contact with the ground! That leads to exposure to water, moisture, rot and insects! It would be better off by cutting down two small to medium-sized trees and put them on cross blocks in parallel and then stack wood on top of that, with zero contact with ground. Even the two parallel tree supports ideally should be placed on concrete blocks, or hunks of rock, rather than on sawn wooden cross blocks.
