Very nice heading down that lush green trail. Cabin looks great. A word about hornets: late at night and early in the morning they are more calmer or lethargic. I wait till just as the sunlight starts to break. If you have hornet spray hit them at that time. If not knock them down p and stomp on them. My buddy knocked his down right into an open barrel in a plastic bag. Sealed it up and gone. Leaving the area for a bit is a good idea in your case too. Now, afterwards, fill a small plastic grocery bag with other bags, etc. so it’s round like a hornets nest. Hang where you had one. It will keep them away and also most bore bees that would love your cabin to eat into. The hornets think it’s a different group and will stay away. By the way, nice chairs. They look like maple. Wood pile looks great too. By the time you see this comment you are probably burning into it.

Hi Kyle, I have dealt with so many bees nest in our 30 years living in our home. We have a huge brick wall with a Fireplace inserted into the wall that also blows heat into the family room. But this time we had to call the pros . The bees were getting in from the brick chimney attached to the side of the house. I had to pack up our baby Son and go stay at my Mother's house for about 3 days. And my husband stayed with the exterminator our dog was in the car to be safe. The exterminator said the hive was so big there were generations in it. After he sprayed he left and my husband went to his parents house with our dog for 3 days. When we got home on the 4th day my husband had to caulk the brick chimney outside and I had to vacuum up dead bees in the house. Not a fun job there were little bees big bees and queen bees. After that we had 2 nest in the ground on the front lawn. My husband pushed the lawn mower over it next thing he was in the street taking off his shoes and socks he was stung over 10 times and it hurt but thankfully he didn't get sick. Then I ran over one with the lawn mower by our flag pole and I had to rip my shirt off I had like 2 under my shirt thank goodness they didn't sting me. So when you said you were bringing back Raid I said NO Raid is for insects. Best product ever for bees, wasps it's called Seven Dust it's only like $10 or cheaper. It is a white powder. All you have to do is get the powder on some of the bees and when they go back into the nest it will kill all of the bees. The ones that don't get killed will hang around the nest area for a few days then eventually leave. They might still be in the nest on the ground when you get back to the Cabin. And you can just throw some white dust on them. Good Luck and be careful when you come back to the Cabin. 😊💛 Stay Safe everyone!

I have removed a hornet/wasp nest with a unique method. You can argue it’s not the safest, but we cut it down from the tree into a garbage bag that someone was holding a few feet below. As soon as it landed in the bag, we closed it up real tight. We then threw it in the bonfire. Never got stung, and didn’t have any angry hornets flying around us after a nest bashes into the ground like the way you did it. Don’t worry about it though, you were alone, and didn’t get stung. So that’s a success!! Good luck this winter and enjoy it!!

Very cool!! I lived briefly off the grid in Michigan's U.P., and of the many lessons I learned, to make a long story short, first, don't run when dealing with wasps; that movement attracts them and they can fly faster than a human can run. Second, when spraying them move in slowly and give them a short burst from underneath directly into the nest, that maximizes use of the chemical on the target and lessens the chance of collateral damage to other insects and animals that eat insects, so be certain to clean up after the battle. lol

I was one of your first subscribers and it was that video of you hauling your first stove in that definitely won my respect. Maybe rig something up from a couple of old bicycle wheels and make a 2x4 frame to haul the next stove in. The bike wheels are large enough to roll over rough terrain and the 2x4s can reused for something else once you get there. Good luck and stay safe.

This is a great idea! They use a very similar two-wheeler wire "grocery cart" in downtown center City Philly when people have to walk 10 blocks to the ACME to do food shopping. They put several bags in there and pull the thing home.
I understand that some crafty seniors use them when they live in a apartment complex -- they park their car, put their grocery bags in the two-wheeler from the trunk and haul it back to their pad.
I always thought that infantry squads should do the same thing, with some pretty large wheels and carry medical equipment and extra ammo with them, rather than humping it.

They are a bit expensive, but I have seen them used for not much more than a good snowmobile. A snowmobile is only useful for 5 months at best and then you have to store it.

I highly recommend Raid wasp spray. Keep a couple of cans on hand at all times. Also, have you considered building some horses for peeling your logs? I spent a summer peeling logs when I was 18 and having the logs up off the ground made it a lot easier on my back.

Cool but forget the Raid. Use Pine Sol diluted 50/50 with water then spray it on the nest or dump a bucket of it on any ground nests. Believe it or not the fumes alone kill stinging insects really, really well, but oddly enough won't as easily kill other bugs.

    I have a few questions.
This is 40 acres. Do you have survey markings? Where is the cabin in relations to where you have to park? Clear cutting the trail from the cabin in the direction of where you park is ideal. I thought I read a comment that you have a permit for a road? Is this road permit to the cabin? If so then when do you plan on building this road to your cabin? The area around your cabin should be enlarged and you should build many more smaller sized buildings so that you can use them as other things like storage. Your wood pile could use a nice roof and some sort of raised floor. Log splitter will really help speed up the processing time as well. The investment and not having to worry about heat really comes in handy. This also allows you to have years more of wood. Invest in a dozen of fire extinguishers.

Happy to see every thing checks out okay at your cabin. I wouldn't be surprised if you get another hornet nest by the time you make it back there again. I don't like those hornets much but usually , if you leave them alone they leave you alone. Now those stinking deer flies are another story. They Never leave you alone. Those things drive you nuts. Be careful working in this heat Kyle. See ya next time.

Kyle if you have no cell service and no phones nearby...I hope you have good first aid supply...what would you do if you needed a hospital? I'm also hoping to move out to rural woods but FIRST I'm buying a dog that can kill snakes. I dont know if there are snakes out by your cabin but a snake bite can be just as deadly as a bear attack. Jack Russell terriers are very good snake killers. Also mint is good for keeping spiders and mice out of homes. I use cedar and eucalyptus essential oils to keep flies and mosquitoes away. My daughter is almost 20 and I'm hoping to buy land and build a cabin for us soon because cities are too dangerous. We live just outside of atlantic city in a suburb.... I'm going to show her your channel & I hope she will learn. Please be careful out there by yourself.

@@jefflee5047 That's good to know but just in case....a dog is a great line of defense! I have a child Kyle's age and I hope he has supplies and knowledge if he ever has a true medical situation while being out there alone. It's just good to have supplies in days like these when it seems things are just crazy.

Easiest way to get rid of hornets’ nest is to quietly and calmly grab it slowly. Inside a small garbage bag. Once removed and sealed in the bag, you can bring them elsewhere or simply let them suffocate in the bag.

A success, hoping that they don't remake that.!!! You just knocked down the nest. All of the hornets are still there. They will for sure rebuild, because you made them such a great place. You could use some of that great spray sealant foam to encapsulate the hive. That way only the scout / foragers will be survivors. They too can restart a paper nest, and one xan morph into an egg laying queen. Wasp spray just doesn't seem to have the instant killing effects needed to spray without getting stung. Other things work better, like stainless steel spray polish, or Tilex tile cleaner, which has lye in it. Those kill hornets instantly. Feet up, dead... before they hit the ground. Wear protective hat and clothing for protection from fast guards that didn't get a dose at first instant of attack. Running is good,... but be aware, they attack the motion as being the enemy.

They weren't a "problem" until you noticed them. Therefore the "problem" is your mind and not the hornets!

Might cost a bit but rent yourself a skidder and a ground shark mower and make yourself a trail up to your cabin, easier to get to bad part it is easier for anyone to get to as well
