We're lucky to still have a thriving trolleybus system in Seattle where I live

*muni over here expanding their trolly system every few years, tho I think it's mostly the tracked one.

Thanks for uploading these videos! I was thinking about it being the last day of trackless trolley service during the course of that day, and it was pretty sad. I took a drive down Mt Auburn and Trapelo on Saturday so I could catch one more look at them. I’m really glad you took video though so we can all live vicariously through your experience.
I love your overall commentary and especially your remark about the unique sound the TT made. Another quirk I found sort of funny is that when you would see a TT turn from Watertown Square onto Mt. Auburn, the trolley and all the traffic following behind would have to slow up considerably so it doesn’t dewire. No exaggeration that it’s about the only time traffic moved cautiously through the square. A shame that they’re gone now.
I’m sure I’m not in the minority in these thoughts, but ultimately I don’t think this is going to be the seamless transition the T thinks it will be. The whole thing feels rushed, and when I see the T try to rationalize the decision they list about half a dozen reasons why they want to make this move, none of which are overly persuasive. It’s not better for the environment, most likely doesn’t improve service on the 71/73, and it just seems odd to be starting the battery transition at the last garage that actually poses an environmental concern. Why not start with Albany for instance? They’re currently running all diesels.
The T just threw every half-baked reason at the wall to see what stuck, and sadly our state reps lazily regurgitated all of the talking points. Such a shame.

I love trackless trolleys. Used to ride them all the time in Seattle, ride them a lot on SEPTA, have ridden them in San Fransisco, and also when I was last in Boston. Haven't ridden on Dayton's system yet, but it will happen when I go up there.

I know I’m a bit late with my comment but, thank you for documenting all of this. I always saw Boston trackless trolley’s footage and wanted to ride them, but due to economical reasons I wasn’t able to do so. It’s sad to see a system like that closing, specially that I never got the chance to ride. Really thank you

Those buses seem to have a lot more life in them, what a waste and all for some experimental battery buses. Toronto killed their trolley buses 30 years ago for experimental CNG buses that failed.

Wow, replacing wired vehicles with battery vehicles is going to be embarrassing in hindsight. Even if battery is the future (I’d argue not a wise move), this is a bad choice of vehicle deployment. Environmentally, the change to make is replacing diesel buses with battery first and keeping overhead wires until the very end. Wasted opportunity cost.
I’d compare it to Germany wasting the environmental benefits of their new wind and solar by closing nuclear plants instead of coal plants. On a much smaller scale of course.
