DJI Mini 3 Pro vs Autel Nano Plus - Best Mini Drone

  • I wanted the Autel Evo Nano Plus to give the Mini 3 Pro a challenge but results are less than desirable.
    I don't like to say "Beginner Drone Comparison" because these sensors and features are professional caliber while still being a maximum convenience in a tiny body under 250g. Mini drone makes more sense.
    I have a whole review on the Mini 3 Pro, we know it just performs.
    In several areas the Autel was trying but not really delivering. App crashes, funky bugs, switching filming modes on its own, flying hiccups and other things made me have to retake everything with it again and again.
    Even pretending I have a bugged model, its still questionable if it competes with the Mini 3 Pro in the final product.
    Nano Plus panoramic photos are really slow, flight settings are not as intuitive or smooth, you fly lined up with something but then end up misaligning the frame somehow, shooting a flat color profile is only in full-auto settings, hyperlapse has very limited options so you get super bouncy results. Digital sharpening and vibrance is added to the video so beginners (most buyers) may think its better only because its different but it is a blotchy look I don't want.
    Typically you have Pros and Cons on every comparison between two, but there weren't any areas they both share where the Autel Nano + gets back at the Mini 3 Pro other than low-light footage which was beautiful on the Evo Nano Plus even if it feels like its by accident.
    Things only Autel nano plus has:
    No-Geofencing
    Rad color options
    Things only Mini 3 Pro has:
    Vertical Filming
    47m battery option
    Smart Remote included for less money than the Nano+ alone dfkdfj
    Active Track (yes, Nano lists tracking since January launch but it isn't ready)
    Sucks because I really want to see Autel do well and having a second brand to shop from would be great, but right now DJI still just knocks it out of the park and performs well at the same time that Autel sadly didn't deliver.
    After thinking about it more, this drone was built to tackle the Mini 2 but maybe it was pushed out hastily in January 2022 because of the concern that a Mini 3 Pro was about to come out in April and they would have lost basically the whole market.
    They were maybe forced to just halt the project and release the drone in January to get as much money back as they could instead of dominating the mini drone market with what was supposed to be a super version of the Mini 2.
    I would still like to try out the Nano Lite since it has a similar build to the Evo II Pro 6K, which was a drone that didn't fly well but had a really awesome picture (once you played with settings, out the box image was gross)

    I just bought a Mini 3 based on your videos. Unfortunately had to send it back due to a lens fogging issue, but have to say DJI customer service has been top-tier. I sent them a photo of the issue, no questions asked, they sent me a prepaid UPS label, stayed in contact, and I have a new drone on its way ~7 days later. The issue is unfortunate, but their response has been great.

      Autel.... has two major things going for it.
      RYYB sensor killing it in the sunset/low light department. Some say the nano + is better then the mavic 3 all because of that style of sensor and that might be true.
      And no geofencing... just geowarnings which IMO is way more respectable...
      That's.... about it. DJI crushes in every other category. Many say the camera is the most important feature on a drone but I think the flight characteristics are more important than that

    Great comparison! When Autel first announced the Nano+ I was thrilled and excited, especially with no geo-fencing. But when all the issues started popping up, and they were many, I cancelled my order and decided to wait and see what DJI came up with... so glad I did! Much better drone for the money, especially with the smart controller. You hit the nail on the head regarding Autel pushing the Nano out early to try and get a ton of sales before the DJI Mini 3 came out. As you pointed out, the Nano has excellent low light video and that's probably the only thing I'm a bit disappointed with in the Mini 3. I bet if DJI had the RYYB filter built into the camera it would be just as good as the Nano in low light. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks again for the detailed comparison... well done.

    • @InteractiveDNA
      @InteractiveDNA Год назад +2

      The reality is that there is not drone on the market today that film better than the Nano+ does., none! Not even the Lite version that has the same RYYB filters. Watch the video link I posted on my comments on a 4k television and you will see that the Nano+ destroys ALL DJI drones in image quality, based on dynamic range in luma, choma and definition. The problem is that many people has ZERO knowledge about what quality is and how that works. They go buy on miss information spread on RUclips and other platforms.

    I'd like to see a video with a stopwatch, demonstrating disconnect-from-charger, pack-and-go plus unpack-and-start-recording times between these two drones. I think a lot of people are attracted to these because they're easy to bring along (the best camera is the one you use). I think DJI recognized that. So, which drone is easier to bring along? I already think the Mini 3 is going to be difficult to beat in this respect, but all I have to compare against are much bigger hexacopters that don't grab-n-go very well at all.

    • @QuickAssTutorials
      @QuickAssTutorials  Год назад +3

      Having the smart remote makes the Nano+ unable to match it there. Anytime I had to re-film with the mini 3 in my head it was basically neutral. With the Nano+ it was like ughhh okay here we go. App issues, phone dangling in one hand trying to pop it in the cradle, the awkward weight on top while your trying to lightly steer, and then taking it down. It doesn't fold conveniently at all, the remote they really should have put more thought into. Having a smart remote makes a drone SO much more fun especially when you can still use your phone and don't have to change its orientation, brightness, notifications, etc.

    Good insight and comparison. I do wish Autel had taken more time with the N+ to make sure it was fully baked (within reason) before releasing it to the public. It's sweet spot is low light so for those who love to film city lights it's the one to get as long as the buyer is aware of its limitations. I own an E2P and love it but if I'm being honest with myself I have to admit the Air 2s I also own flies nicer. Both have great cameras. My preference is the E2P footage and photos but it's so close that I would be just as happy with the results of the Air2s in most cases. With RID coming next year I think there's a Mini 3p in my future just to avoid RID.

    Much respect. Skewered Autel. I have an Autel Evo 2 Pro after x3 poor DJI Mavic 2 purchases from DJI themselves. My poor experience out of the gate left me me with Autel. The second I bought the Autel, the v2 of my drone was announced effectively End of Lifing the drone before it even began.
    Having at least flown the Mavic 2 for a few months I can safely say it flies so much better than the Evo 2 Pro. But the quality of the camera on the Evo was better than the versions of the Mavic I purchased.
    With the Nano Plus, I am reluctant to buy it as I know it will not fly well without effort.

But you pointed some things I have never experienced: - app has never crashed, not even once and it never switched filming modes on it's own. I don't know if it's up to a certain device or more likely a phone (I use Android device). I didn't experience any flying hiccups tbh and flying seems pretty intuitive and smooth to me (I have beeing flying several DJI drones and I see no difference). I think it would be fair to underline how good Nano Plus is at night. It's not perfect of course - quick shots work strange, there is no tracking, but overall it does very well.

    Not having to deal with DJI geofencing jail is highly underrated. If you can't get the drone up in the air every other benefit is out the door. On a recent trip to Europe, I was unable to fly in places on remote Greek islands that made no sense. Even with a solid internet connection, authorization failed every time and would not go through. Autel has it right on a sub 250 g drone on not locking you out of using your device. I missed out on some incredible shots because of DJI geofencing. If Autel comes out with a controller version, I will be taking it on my next trip and leaving the Mini 3 at behind.

I returned it ASAP and bought a nano plus for 700$ with the promotion they often do and a second hand air 2 S with its smart controller for 900$. I now have the best of both worlds. And yes, in low light the mini 3 pro can't compete at all. Not just on one shot like you did. On all shots. And now the active tracking is operational so it's not a deal breaker anymore...

    @ae1582 Год назад

    Around 2:50, you complain that the "exposure meter" in Autel Sky doesn't work, but what you highlight on screen is the exposure compensation setting. That's to let you make the image brighter or darker than the meter would suggest, not an indication of light in the image. If you do want an on-screen indication of light, you can turn on histogram in the camera settings. Unfortunately, you have to turn that on each time you want it, as it's not persistent. I do like the flight status indicator (the alternative to maps) in Autel Sky, but the software on the whole is a few generations of refinements shy of DJI. I fly the Evo Lite+, which seems to have avoided many of the problems people seem to have with the Nano+, though as I said, I'd prefer a better experience than Autel Sky.

    • @londenard
      @londenard Год назад

      @@QuickAssTutorials DJI still has it on the Mavic 3, they toned it down so it doesn't react to aircraft higher than your drone can fly. If you go to the map, you can adjust the sensitivity of the ADS B warnings if you need to know whenever a Airbus 320 flies overhead at 30,000 feet. I personally like it this way better, just like radar detectors, too many false alarms causes you to start ignoring them.

    LOL I just love how these videos have always went for years and years... DJI Versus Videos, Canon vs Sony, bla bla so much is subjective opinion.
    Like with MP vs Evo it was always the stuff about the app or something else. The camera on MP was sharper than others (Anafi, Typhoon) they said... then the Evo 1 came out and it was sharper edge to edge. DJI users then claimed the softness gave a more cinematic look. Evo was 4K 60 fps made to compete with MP. It crushed IQ of MP so it was then always compared to M2P which released after the Evo. The E2Pro simply destroyed M2P in just about every image test. People started saying Autel over processed, or preferred the exaggerated color of the M2P.
    We use both DJI and Autel at our company and every client has preferred the Autel results better. Autel simply does better with camera and processing. DJI is better with many things besides the camera, but for our company the bottom line is that image. Evo 1 was said to have softer colors, and less contrast, well.. nope that was wrong. The camera softness on the edges of DJI cameras is all too common. The stretching they did on the MA was another wtf. DJI users by the thousands also left DJI when DJI screwed the pooch forcing Android users into iOS. DJI has never been Android friendly, and from the start the Autel Explorer app was very Android friendly even with $50 tablets. DJI alienated a vast user group which was stupid.
    We have other issues with the NFZ crap too when using DJI. There are unused airports, heliports, sea plane ports throughout the FL coast and we can seldom get these to fly unless in very rural areas. Autel leaves that up to the PIC as it should be!! What good is a drone if it doesn't get off the ground!! These demos are often done in areas that are well out of NFZ related issues. Try getting that Mini 3 off the ground around a Space Port, Cruise terminal, Heliport, Exec airports around other airports and military bases.. many of them canceled and not in use, but still on the NFZ database. Really really annoying.
    We also compared the Mini 3 Pro to the Nano Plus. Camera wise the N+ beat the Mini 3 Pro. For our use indoor and on RE jobs with pools, custom lanais the Nano + was quite good. It's DR destroys the Mini 3 Pro even after DJI updates. You can't fix camera limitations with firmware. Starts with the lens, the sensor, and the processing components. Autel seems to go with more of a Sony look and IQ which is great since it pairs well with Alpha cameras. Flight wise, the Mini 3 is more capable, and I love the stability when it flies. That said neither of the two are that good in winds of 15 mph which are routine at the coast and inland rivers. Beach Patrol here in Brevard have found hundreds of Mini type drones washed ashore over the past couple of years. That's on the users though imo.
    This video and others should also add that the larger battery for Mini 3 WILL REQUIRE REGISTRATION since it breaches the 250g weight limit. Many of these comparisons fail to mention that.

    What people don't understand is that DJI is a Chinese government owned company. Autel is a private Chinese/American company that isn't subsidized like DJI.
