East wasn't that weak in the early 2000s. Ray Allen and the bucks, Paul pierce and the celtics were pretty good, Reggie miller and the pacers were still ballin, Jason Kidd got New Jersey in the finals twice as well. Lebron going back to Cleveland shifted the balance in the eastern conference this year also. Oh and Vince carter and the raptors.
Nathaniel Louder Ray Allen lead bucks were not that great of a team. The Celtics made it to 1 Conference Finals (2002 I believe) and were far from contenders. The Pacers were an 8th seed in 2001 lost in the ECSF in 2002, and made the Conference Finals in 04. New Jersey wasn't amazing either. Vince Carter and the Raptors were nto amazing either. You do realize most of these teams were mediocre and not real contenders. J Kidd had to carry scrubs (average players) as well into the Finals but people only mention Iverson and Lebron's run. The East sucked until 2004. That's why the West was winning the Finals every year from 99-03.
Lebron going shifted the balance but Miami only dominated the East because of the Rose injury and Indiana collapsing. In 2011 the East had 4 Contenders in Orlando, Miami, Chicago, and Boston, so it wasn't always pathetic.
They beat rose the first time around. Lebron known for ending the Bulls in the postseason. But in the early 2000s those teams had at least one all star so they were contenders. The west just had more stacked teams.
