Hey hey!! OG Argentinian Regnum player here!! From way back into '07-'08! First of all, the three kingdoms offer different starting points and races, although the classes are the same. Reach class can evolve into one of two specializations. Each kingdom has 2 zones: a training, and a quest. Then there's a common middle zone that is a war zone. Any of those strongholds can be captured for points and xp. It used to be an absolute epic war up there. I was one of the very few supports of my kingdom so they protected me more than their lives ('cause I actually could revive, heal and give mana). I have fond memories of that game. Oh, and it wasn't that buggy. And fun fact: one of the guys who worked on that game also worked on the GODOT engine :)
The objective was simple but very interesting. There were 6 gems in total, 2 inside each kingdom. The realms were protected by long, tall walls. Outside the walls, in the War Zone, each realm had 3 strongholds. One realm could only invade another if they managed to capture the 3 rival strongholds at the same time and defend them for 10 minutes. After that, the target realm entered an “unprotected status” and could be invaded to steal their gems. When a realm collected the 6 gems, it would open a door into a dragon lair that granted 1 wish for the entire kingdom. The players inside the lair could vote for the wish: the actual ones are exp boost, gold boost, more loot rate. (The boost lasts 1 week). After that, the gems would reset and the cycle would begin again. It was very fun at that time, one of the best PvP experiences for me. It was evolving really nicely, with graphics and map updates, but it was ruined by bad decisions, lack of updates, and a ton of P2W stuff.

Speaking on getting lvl up on random things i like when using skills lvls them up It just makes sense that using a skill more makes it advance further like any other skill in life the more u do it the better u get at it Unfortunately not many mmos or games in general use this system Which is a shame
I even didnt know that Ryzom is still online.. it was really interesting mmorpg it had feature to mix abilities together.. I never seen this anywhere else. I played Regnum online from 2007 through the transition to Champions of Regnum right up to the closure of the last English server. I would say they were accurate in their description at least up till 2010. The original game was like a scaled down DAoC with superior skills and at least on the English speaking server the realm was filled 24/7 so PVP was non stop anytime you wanted to log in. Sadly they lost the original creator around 2010 and the guy who replaced him drove the game into the ground. Starting in 2010 he completely changed the combat system and lost 50% of the playerbase then a couple years later released Champions of Regnum (most referred to as Champions of Rectum) losing around 50% of those remaining and it got even worse. All you had to do to illustrate his incompetence was realize there were 7 or 8 servers around the world when he took over and they quickly dwindled to only 2 then only 1 left in South America. I will always miss that game as I've never found a game with such fun PVP since (the original not the mess it was at the end).
I'm fairly old. When WoW first came out I was intrigued. But I wasn't buy a new gaming pc/pay a monthly subscription intrigued. I had never played an mmo before and the closest I had gotten was watching my buddy play muds when I was a teenager. I searched the internet for mmos and non of them worked on my pc or cost a subscription I wasnt willing to pay. All except Regnum which was all the game was called at the time, 'Champions of' came later at some point I dunno, I never stuck around that long. Long intro to a short story; when I first logged onto regnum the whole concept was so new to me that I just sat there ontop of this starting zone icehill trying ot read all the help guide. There was this dude standing there. Another player like me, the first online real person I had ever laid eyes on in an mmorpg. He turns to me and says 'hi. are you lost?' and I said 'Hi. Ya kinda I guess. I've never done this before' So he says 'I'll show you where to go for 1 gold'. I look in my inventory and sure enough the game had started me with 1 gold. I give it to him thinking this must be some normal sort of transaction in these mmorpg things. He takes it and says 'follow me'. I follow him and we run for 25 sec...to the next hill where there was an npc. 'You go here. Good luck' It took me 5 min to get ripped off in my 1st mmorpg ;p
As someone familiar with Ryzom (it was the first MMO I played, and I made it to the "free trial" level cap of 125), I find the positivity here absolutely hilarious. I played before the extra tutorial was added on top of the existing tutorial, so I'm a bit surprised it didn't even tell you that you have to equip your melee weapon (dagger) to perform at all in melee combat. But moreover, the only lore to be found is in a wiki, and the only quests in the game are in the tutorial area (which you never actually left; it takes several hours to finish the tutorial area). The mainland is just grinding: you can grind storyless missions for money or reputation, and you can grind fights for XP. I think if you actually did a deep dive into it, you'd be disappointed.
O yea, it's still got a good following. I have played it several times the past year. I still have my first character which is my main I created 18 years ago haha.
Out of all the MMOs displayed the one you liked the most was the one i disliked the (second) most from a viewer watching gameplay perspective :P I agree with the childish cartoon characters thing but the final MMO had the same effect on me. Looking forward to the deep dive on it though, love this content!! keep at it
Perpetual seems like they tried to make it feel like you were controlling a mech with an interface, but they over complicated it to the point they stopped it being fun.

And we had a three days session with NO SLEEPING.
i bought ryzom when it came out. back in the early 2000s i bought almost every MMO that came out. Neocron was my absolut favorit, extreme thick atmosphere. I played it a lot back then. Its now a free game and omg, cant believe how buggy that game was. Its horrible to replay today. Its just bugs bugs and more bugs, can believe it was my favorite.
Islet is pretty neat game. Not the typical MMORPG experience, but I think a lot of MMOs could learn off of its simple yet effective addictive gameplay loop.
If you can, figure it out and get it working. There's a way to play Lego Universe. When the game was released, i fell in love so quickly with it. Player created homes/ weird creations. Zones were so cool and had hidden areas/puzzles to find. It was such an amazing game that unfortunately closed due to the cost and not enough players.
Ryzom's a complex game. Almost as complex as EVE online in some respects but after playing both of those MMOs for well over 15 years they seem so simple now haha.
Ryzom in its prime was a really cool game. It's definitely a unique world and setting... hampered by a cumbersome game engine. There was a lot of interesting and enjoyable stuff in there, wrapped up in mechanics which made everything harder than it had to be. But I've never played in an MMO setting more unusual, captivating, and one-of-a-kind than Ryzom. If the developers had been part of a design team for a larger dev, and left others to work on the engine and mechanics, it might have been really successful.
liked and subbed! Your content is engaging as well as entertaining. The important aspect of content is all about storytelling which I enjoy spending every minute watching the video keep it up! :D
One of my Favorite MMORPG's, probably 15 years ago now, was Atlantica Online, I LOVED the Turn-Based Combat in it and NEVER found another game that did it like that, sadly it got bought out and the Dev after did not care and made it super P2W.
I'm playing Rogalia on Steam. After these servers died a few years ago the game revived in Free-to-play form. Nothing much to look at but it has some unique mechanics that I like.
17:07 alright I understand that the characters arts can be bothering, but you gotta say the world assets like houses streets and trees are actually pretty good
Regnum was and still is one of my favourite games with a lot of good memories and i enjoy coming back at it from time to time :) gave me thousands of hours of fun within the last 15 years, can't complain :)
The problem with regnum if that he really didn't go to the real battle zone. You gotta be 40+ to fight and do something and it really shines there. Doesn't shine at the leveling aspect
Haven't played any of these, but I played a handful that I never see on top XX lists anymore: Tibia, Lineage 2, and Neverwinter Nights Persistent Worlds
Ryzom does get much better. I played it about 12 years ago. It was old then. There are dedicated players and if you can get with a group of them you will have fun. You will feel alone a lot until you get to the maps where most players hang out. Also you will find players that run 5 or more accounts at once using macros. I though I was playing with a much larger group in the beginning until I found out 5 of the players where one person. It was impressive to see them all play as if they were different people. I loved the game but moved on to Guild Wars 2.
You should try out Palia. Its an online persistent world and plays like that last game on your list here. It also has Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing vibes, but its online and has a very friendly and helpful community. Its free on both Steam and on Nintendo Switch. :)
@@GygaxxGrows Despite the layoffs, development is still trucking along. A new feature update was just announced. I'm still hopeful for Palias future. It's only really if community abandons game it may topple.
amazing idea for a video. in my opinion what you're documenting is deeper than video games. We have all been sucked into this vacuum on the supposed world wide web. with new tech it seems our window of discovery is dwindle to a few mere apps and in this case MMOs. You literally just going to page 4 is proof the internet does still exist. I would say that a vast majority of consumers are so invested in things they are told to like everything after page one on steam might as well be a blank page
You should do a video on "Eldevin". I got super hooked on that MMORPG when it came out. It has a very nostalgic feel, with the music and graphics. But practically nobody plays it anymore. I'm truly surprised the devs still keep it going. The majority of updates are all just holiday events now, but I really wish that game would've gotten more recognition. I feel like it could've gotten up there with WoW and RS.
wait what hunt cow studios went on to make an actual mmo? I used to play their web browser game that i cant remember for the life of me. Started with F, fallensword maybe? You could even do pvp with the GMs in that game lol
I might try that last one out myself, I been wanting something like that in my life. Graphics could be better but that doesn’t bother me is the game play is good.
At least give the game a shot, its strangely addicting and really hit a lot of those feel good mmo receptors that i didnt assume it would just judging the game by its cover
please do visit Elemental Knights Online. Its a 15 yr old japanese game and still running. It has a wide character feature and skills with a ton of classes. And also still have tons of japanese active players too. 😊
You should look into a game called Gods of Zushin, it used to be called Zu Online and there is a single guy running a server and finishing the translation from the Chinese version. The game came out around the expac of Cataclysm for WOW. I use to play this game all the time, but since it disappeared because of translation and marketing issues, I had to find other games to play. I miss the game and I've never met anyone who's known about it before.
A few suggestions: APB Reloaded (Died a few years ago not sure if even possible to get into). Tera Online (Died off a few years ago as well). Gloria Victis (Small PVP MMO, that is still standing somehow after all the years). Metin2 (Not even sure if this one is still alive, but was my childhood mmo).
APB reloaded has an emulator, but not recommended. Tera Online, likewise, has an emulator as well which I have played off and on but more off due to work.
Number go up = happy is just general, I'm not even going to say monkey brain, it's squirrel brain even. Some people are compelled by it more than others for any number of reasons
I have played 2/6 of these :'D 1/3 isn't so bad! Ryzom was great fun when I was a kid. I used to play with my dad. It was and still is super underrated. Legends of Edda is boring and grindy but the community is super welcoming and lovely, so it's strange that nobody spoke to you because when I first started I was hounded with guild invites.
One thing you should know about Ryzom. Majority of its player base are either French or German, that might be why the other player u met at the tutorial area didnt respond. Also Ryzoms largest Guilds/Clans are French and German clans, and they wont allow u to join unless u can speak their language.
Never heard of Islet, but I'm surprised you didn't mention Trove at all, which leads me to believe you might not be aware of it. It's certainly got various differences than islet, but in terms of a "Minecraft MMO" it's the one I always think of, and unless things have changed since I last looked into it, there's still quite a few people playing. I'll always be happy to bring Trove up because early on you could actually create and submit voxel items/styles and submit them and one of the permanent hairstyles in the game is one I made.
I really enjoy, some 1 call. Eldevin, from Hunted Cow Studios. The mmo, have a lot of potential, but the managers cant do it better. I hope some day have a great renewal.

Agree, game seems fun, also it's on mobile with decent controls, but sadly english community is very very small
I love this series, I played many MMOs after the rush UO gave me back in the day, even did EQ's ps2 game. Everything from Runescape to EVE, 2Moons, 9dragons, Flyff, Rose Online, Maplestory an many more. Thanks Waydot.
2Moons, that game was awesome.
ah FLYFF, that name takes me WAY back, lvl 15 sword was epic with the card upgrades :)
I was mostly RM though I dabbled in knight
i used to think the lady on a world of warcraft box was the lady i saw in a dream once when i was little and i blamed for my lack of video game skills. and how you see the textures reminds me of 1 of my gaming beds in imvu. i mashed 2 gaming beds together as part of a way to create the perfect gaming bed and at certain angles its sometimes a superman bed and sometimes a purple bed with leopard spots
Speaking on getting lvl up on random things i like when using skills lvls them up
It just makes sense that using a skill more makes it advance further like any other skill in life the more u do it the better u get at it
Unfortunately not many mmos or games in general use this system
Which is a shame
I even didnt know that Ryzom is still online.. it was really interesting mmorpg it had feature to mix abilities together.. I never seen this anywhere else. It can make your character very special.. like you take fireball and change it to poison damage and make it to do not just dd but also dot.. etc :D
Yea, Ryzom's a great game. I do like the "crafted" abilities you can make using stanzas to change it up and do unique attacks and such.
Good luck'
It took me 5 min to get ripped off in my 1st mmorpg ;p
I remember Ryzom, had such huge hopes for it but I just couldn’t get into it. Stuck to the other mmos of the time.
I remmeber reading about ryzom waaaaay back, didnt think it would even still be online lol
O yea, it's still got a good following. I have played it several times the past year. I still have my first character which is my main I created 18 years ago haha.
Dude. I think I played Ryzom a long time ago. The character creation brought back memories i forgot
11:28 the "rest emote" is a normal mechanic in Ragnarök Online (insert to sit and recover more hp/mana)
The textures glitching on regnum could be DX12 related, if you try it again if possible set to DX11. Same issue appears in WoW as well periodically.
23:00 They stole the Level Up Sound from the game NosTale btw. Don't know if you reviewed this game already but I would remember that sound anywhere.
Out of all the MMOs displayed the one you liked the most was the one i disliked the (second) most from a viewer watching gameplay perspective :P I agree with the childish cartoon characters thing but the final MMO had the same effect on me. Looking forward to the deep dive on it though, love this content!! keep at it
Love you crow
Perpetual seems like they tried to make it feel like you were controlling a mech with an interface, but they over complicated it to the point they stopped it being fun.
So glad i finally got around to watching this video. I love exploring concepts like this and I know the exact feeling of something being just out of reach. Thanks for making this, and I hope you reach 1000 subscribers!
Dope video! I really love the topic of old or abandoned/unknown MMOs.
this guy is so off the wall with his anecdotes xD its hilarious
Not sure how interesting it would look in one of these videos but one of most famous French MMORPG is called Dofus. Brings back so many memories
Sleep Paralysis demon got me xD Greetings from Argentina here! Didn't have the chance to properly play Regnum, but indeed heard about it; I was most likely busy playing Cabal Online, Granado Espada and L2 :D
First time on this channel, and I'm enjoying your simplistic and also in depth content! Everything you do from the simple cuts and the genuine reaction cam to the brief and detailed voicer over in this video. I am subbing and will watch more from you. 😌
Ah Regnum, or now Champions of Regnum, this one is my childhood man, spent countless nights with my best friend playing this game. Good times.
Happy to see another Regnum player. I played on Ignis.
We were mostly Latin American players, but I stumbled upon some Frenchies once and taught them how to play
@@teknomax7883 Was Alsius the first times but I liked Syrtis map so much I switched some day. Sounds like you also had some good memories with this
@@Sizzer1337 Dude, I didn't even played THAT much, but a LOT happened to me there. Witnessed an online marriage. Got into a friendly gathering and duel with a rivalry faction. Got into many epic battles. And somehow I was quite known (was one of the very very few full healers and my friend got me into the top faction of the realm). Oh.
Its just bugs bugs and more bugs, can believe it was my favorite.
my first MMO was Shaiya, nobody talks about it nowadays but it holds many beloved memories of discovering the genre 😌
"i like demons and dark fantasy and blood or whatever i said earlier" proceeds to love islet online...
I played quite a lot of Ryzom when I was younger.
Regnum reminds me of ragnarok online. The clicking to move, to attack enemies, using the rest emote to recover mp faster. Very RO vibes there
Regnum looks like it reuses quite a few assets from another MMO called Cabal Online. Particularly the UI.
Rysum was great back in the day but remember doing alot of online research before you tube to understand what I was doing.
Yeah, I remember it as the good alternate mmo at the time, but it was too much to get into.
I still remember playing an MMO that sadly died many years ago called Earth Eternal, which was pretty fun during my brief time with it.
I'm playing Rogalia on Steam. After these servers died a few years ago the game revived in Free-to-play form. Nothing much to look at but it has some unique mechanics that I like.
I totally wasn't expecting a clip from Viva La Dirt. They're so much fun!
amazing dedication and information. you sir, get an A+
i've played PW, Priston Tale and a lot of old ones that are dead but has a special place in me
17:07 alright I understand that the characters arts can be bothering, but you gotta say the world assets like houses streets and trees are actually pretty good
Regnum was and still is one of my favourite games with a lot of good memories and i enjoy coming back at it from time to time :) gave me thousands of hours of fun within the last 15 years, can't complain :)
The problem with regnum if that he really didn't go to the real battle zone. You gotta be 40+ to fight and do something and it really shines there. Doesn't shine at the leveling aspect
Ryzom was funny and great. Regnum had a rvr discret funny system
RIFT, BDO, WoW, FF14, SWTOR, runscape, age of conan, thats just those on top of my head
Everquest and Anarchy Online are great too :)
So far i love playing old mmos it feels i have more peace and i can take my time to play the game.
Haven't played any of these, but I played a handful that I never see on top XX lists anymore: Tibia, Lineage 2, and Neverwinter Nights Persistent Worlds
Huh..? Lineage 2 is pretty known. I played it! It was quite popular for a while here in Argentina
@@teknomax7883 Cool. Didn't say it wasn't known, just that I never see it on top XX lists anymore.
I used to play all of these back in the day. Never got far, but I jumped from mmo to mmo
Gun of Icarus. It's a very cool and underrated airship 3D combat game. I played it recently and there were like 5 people online, which is a shame.
No way Rappelz it's not here. It was my first mmorpg ever and I'M OBSESSED. Sadly, it's a ghost game by now.
You should try out Palia.
Its an online persistent world and plays like that last game on your list here. It also has Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing vibes, but its online and has a very friendly and helpful community.
Its free on both Steam and on Nintendo Switch. :)
Palia was fun for a few hours played it on release. To bad it seems like it might not be around long
@@GygaxxGrows Despite the layoffs, development is still trucking along. A new feature update was just announced. I'm still hopeful for Palias future. It's only really if community abandons game it may topple.
@@GygaxxGrows might not be around long? says who lol?
Quick shout out to the Dead Legends .
-Rakion
-Grand Chase
Silkroad online and fly for fun are two games i I use to play in my teenage years
I remember Regnum! I played back in college when I was penny pinching and avoiding all sub fees.
The question is... why are the servers still up if there's nobody playing?
Remember: All these MMO had stories to tell and a world to be saved, only to be abandoned to their fate.
amazing idea for a video. in my opinion what you're documenting is deeper than video games.
The devs have basically abandoned Eldevin and the events are just repeats of previous years
I might try that last one out myself, I been wanting something like that in my life. Graphics could be better but that doesn’t bother me is the game play is good.
At least give the game a shot, its strangely addicting and really hit a lot of those feel good mmo receptors that i didnt assume it would just judging the game by its cover
The speed option in the youtube clips it's such a good feature ^^ x2 is the best.
please do visit Elemental Knights Online. Its a 15 yr old japanese game and still running.
It has a wide character feature and skills with a ton of classes.
And also still have tons of japanese active players too. 😊
Champions of Regnum is basically Dark Age of Camelot but B-Flick Level.
That last game legit looks good.
First time i've ever seen an Eve-Like rather than a WOW-like. Perpetuum reminds me a lot of Classic-era EVE.
A few suggestions:
APB Reloaded (Died a few years ago not sure if even possible to get into).
Regnum actually doesn't look too bad. i would have played this 7 years ago
Would you really? Legion was already released o.o Ragnum looked like garbage
Nice video, I subscribed because of it. Ever play Anarchy Online before? That was my mmo for over 13 years but not many know it.
And a great soundtrack!
Number go up = happy is just general, I'm not even going to say monkey brain, it's squirrel brain even. Some people are compelled by it more than others for any number of reasons
You can play Anomaly Zone. It's a stalker-like MMO RPG, that's pretty old and indeed is a dead one.
Indeed, I have not.even heard of any of these. Though Islet Online's game play does sound an awful lot like Palia & Stardew Valley.
8:36 Oh my gosh... I can't remember the last time I literally laughed out loud so hard at a video!💀
I know baldur gates exist but i cant help but to want more DnD games with online guild system to chill with fellow nerd friends at a saturday night.
23:13 oh, trust me, I am 100%, diagnosedly so, on the spectrum and I agree, numbers going up make my brain feel some type of way
