Great video Ian I’ve had my mini for a week now and just flown it for the first time properly I’ve had it flying indoors with prop cage on
But loved giving it the full works today I’ve seen videos on RUclips but until I actually flew it today didn’t realise how good it is .

Use your common sense man. Where are you flying it? This little drone is easy to fly and you would only crash it if you were flying close to things. Fly in a big field if your new like me.

Great tips, I would add, avoid flying over water as much as possible and if you do, stay atleast 20 meters high! It seems light reflections and water movement confuse the MM. Great little machine, had it for 11 days now, 6.5 hours flying and 60 kilometers total.

I got mine a week ago. Just took it out and up to 40 feet. Biggest thrill ever! Its seems light but it holds its own. Sturdy as a rock in the air even with light wind for the weight. Love the tips and love the mavric mini!

that´s a VERY ACCURATE and useful information about ALL things will happen (note I said WILL and not WOULDN´T) because definetely pushing the limit of those devices is part of the experience.... Nice one again Ian. Additional tip when flying with co-pilots. Be aware of possible interference, signal loss and possible fly away too due to your drone mates being in the air. I have seen co-pilots getting in trouble during a drone meet. Thanks!

The first mavic mini video I have seen that mentions that the app can only work on 64 bit phones,( would have been good to know before I bought the mini, soon getting a new 64 bit phone.). Anyway, thanks for the video!
this was entertaining and educational,, even though I have been flying for a while, like the Colorado shirt,,, thats where I live, I still think the Mini really rocks as long as the wind is not strong, but actually I don't like flying in strong wind with my Mavic 2 Zoom,, thanks for posting

Ian in London Colorado is beautiful, but I can’t compete with your pilot skills! I need to stop using quick shots and start learning to use better camera settings. I did buy some ND filters, but haven’t used them yet. Oh and I love your scenery by the way!

Great tips, only real drama I’ve had is getting my sticks confused, could of been costly but thankfully it wasn’t 👍🏻
Try little taps on the sticks to double check which way it's going to go.....
Ian in London it was a rookie error, my 1st ever flight not in my back garden and I went up 80ft on the left stick and a few mins later I tried to bring it down on the right, of course this sent it backwards down the field and I was thinking it was a flyaway. The further it went the more I pulled down on the stick which made the issue worse. Eventually after it had disappeared I let go of the stick and in desperation I hit the RTH, a review of the footage later revealed my mistake 😅

Get the mi drone x8 se u will not regret it its a dam good drone for the price i kid u not . its a win win. I have many drones in my collection and that mi drone is a beautiful added addition i have all 3 that they have made so far. U will be glad to have it for ur self.
Great video, Thank you Ian. I am in UK, looking at getting my 1st drone, looked at Mavic Air, but in your opinion, will the Mini be better? Want to use for travelling etc. Oh, and have subscribed too. 😀
Mavic Ait will handle strong wind very well; it's very fast and shoots pictures in raw + jpeg, and shoots 4k video, but only has a 17 min useable battery life. Mavic Mini is half the price, avoids registration requirements in many countries and has a 26 min useable battery life. But cannot be used in very windy conditions. Hope that helps... :)
Hi, have you any experience of using range extenders with the mini, are they worth getting as my range is not good and if so what would you recommend, thanks
I tried some years ago and they made no difference; maybe the technolgy has come in now, but I have no experience. Just stay away from trees as they suck up the signal like mad....

I've just received my mavic mini but not had a fly yet as it has been way to windy and this weekend is perfect.... but I'm stuck a work all weekend!!!

@@IaninLondon wow!! I have just managed to get my mavic mini in the air just before it started getting dark. No wind at all only went to 42 metres had a quick spin around and back down again, but I love it cant wait to get some proper flights out of it
Ian, you mention updating battery firmware, would i be right in assuming for this to happen the battery has to be in the drone rather than the charger?

Correct. Battery firmware updates have to be done in the drone.

I'm on the latest. I always update as soon as they release it... Not had an issue yet.
I got one gifted what you really need to n ow if you fly this mini he not stable in the air when wind goes almost crashed down on the beach when you wanna think you can fly this on the beach where are strong winds forget it

I got the combo, but would suggest a case for the drone only, to make it easier to slip into your backpack
Ian in London which case would you suggest as there is different ones, I should have bought the combo. As I’ve ordered a spare battery and the two way charger so probably cost me more.

If you mean Waypoints or Tap to Fly, then no on both.....
You don't need to go in the map to see the drone's or the pilot's orientation , you can see this directly in the bottom of your flying screen..

@@IaninLondon yeah, like a tutorial or how to edit photos and especially videos in the FLY application itself, tis actually a pretty capable software really. Just download the video to the phone and the disconnect the craft and power off, then edit the video on the phone and have it ready for the social media immediately directly from the phone..

Hello Ian, me again ! I was surprised when you said that the batteries should last a good 25 minutes. I am not getting that but I wonder if it's because I am dropping it into Sport mode sometimes ? Which brings me to my 1st question. Suppose I want to fly 500 metres away. Is it better battery-wise to amble there in P or C mode or get there very quickly in S mode ? Final question if I may : When the prop gards are fitted do they decrease efficiency of the props. thereby eating up battery time ? Kind regards and many thanks for your work - David.
Hi David. Yes, Sports Mode eats up the batteries (see my full throttle battery test video) so stick to P Mode for max battery, And prop guards only good for inside or low level near obstacles as they increase weight and load on the props, and also increase the chance of being blown away as they increase the wind resistance and surface area to be caught by the wind... The battery capacity is 2500 mah the battery packs consists of two 18650 battery's making them 1250 mah per cell. DJI could of used 3400 mah X 2 battery's giving 6800 mah and they don't add additional weight . We could of had over 60 minutes fly time per charge . Why limit the product it makes no sense . Hopefully they could release bigger capacity battery packs !

If 3400mah x2 thats still 3400 mah 7.2 V because this not.powerbank if the voltage 3.6 V so the battery capacity 6800mah

Today i buy this drone and on first flight when it distance 400 meter lost signal and when i try to return to home feature no response and after 3 minutes mini lands in someone's house 😫😥 but it's village i find my drone thorough find my drone feature and knock the door😅 very happy its safe and in my bag

My first flight I took it to 50m elev and 100m away. I plan to use my device more than a few times;)
I will achieve that by over-time testing its capability's of distance and range.
400m distance for a first flight seems a little excessive. Testing its RTH from that distance is even more crazy. Lucky you recovered your device.
I'm finding the majority of people giving bad reviews are due to pilot error OR testing the drones max distances right outta the box

can we fly in public parks? Given there's no one near 50m and we follow basic Drone Code.
You can, unless some little pencil pusher has introduced a park rule or bylaw prohibiting it. Remember they can control and stop you taking off, controlling and landing. My advice? Go early in the day when few people are around. 👍🏻

@@rdp8148 No! If it's a park ranger all they can do is ask you to land and you should comply. You must also land if the Police ask you to land they can issue an on the spot fine of around £130 if they consider you were flying dangerously although this is unlikely if it's early morning with no one around!. But confiscation is not an option.

Ian, the 800 pound gorilla that no one seems to see is the incompatibility of the Android 10 OS with the DJI Fly app. Even with a 64 bit phone, such as my Samsung Galaxy S10, the OS will not work with the Mavic Mini until DJI fixes the compatibility problem. Until then, all of us using the Android system have is a very beautiful paperweight. Would you speak to this, please?
I know DJI are very much aware of this issue and reckon this has to be fixed in the next couple of weeks. It's pretty poor to say the least.... But stay patient :)

@@karenmouselady We're in the same boat, Karen. I bought the Galaxy specifically for flying the Mini. DJI let itself get blindsided by Android 10.
Did this issue not get resolved with this week's DJI update? Mine appears to be working again now (S10), or at least it's letting me open the app. Might take the S7 with me in the morning just in case
