  • Welcome!
We are a homesteading, homeschooling family of 7. Due to recent events (job loss/career change, health issues, rising food costs, etc.) we are having a hard time making ends meet despite our best efforts at frugality. So we are tapping into our local food banks to help us feed our family. Come along as I show you what we are blessed with, what we add to it via grocery store and garden, and how I use it all to nourish our bodies.
Thanks for watching and God bless!

I would put the shoulder Roast in the crockpot, you could make stew, or use it to make Shredded beef tacos, enchiladas, or a beef and Broccoli type dish ect.. but it's a tuffer cut so the slow cooker works best to cook it and it's easy. Thank you for sharing , and thank you for your content. I learned about clothing pantries from you and it has helped me so much.

A few easy recipes for the beef.
Sunday roast: a can of cream of mushroom soup and dry onion soup mix, in a crockpot until fall apart server mashed potatoes.
Stroganoff, cut it into bite size cubes saute it once done dump a can of cream of mushroom soup and a quarter of that can broth/water and mix it once the soup has melted and everything is coated at a spoonful of sour cream and serve over egg noodles.

Look up recipes for Mississippi Pot Roast. It is amazing and should be pretty carb friendly. Basically onion soup mix, dry ranch seasoning, butter and pepperonchini. cook low and slow.

Make a Mississippi Pot Roast with your roast. In Slow Cooker put in beef, a stick of butter, a package of AuJus, and a half jar of Pepperochini peppers
. Its delicious. Cook on low all day until the meat fall apart. Cream cheese in the dates is delicious too

Make a roast beef dinner and serve with roast potatoes, gravy - make with the juices and corn flour to thicken up, veggies like carrots, beans etc. Yorkshire pudding - use a batter mix and cook in a muffin tray and watch them raise up. Use the leftovers as sandwiches like arbys, salads etc. Beef is so expensive- so enjoy it. Use the dripping as fat and flavour to cook other things too.

Do the shoulder roast in the crockpot just like any other roast. What a blessing you all have. My local pantry also lets you “shop” for your item, which I much prefer. Sadly the last time I went, they didn’t have much to choose from. I had to start going on their only evening hours day and I wonder if that’s why? I’m happy with whatever we can get. It helps stretch our budget so much. God bless 🙏🏼❤️

The roast… cook it in the crock pot. You can add whatever veggies you have. Radish can be a low carb substitute for potatoes. Or, when it’s cooked, shred it for tacos or sliders or lettuce wraps. You could cut it up raw into chunks or strips, put it in 5he crock pot with taco seasoning, peppers and onion for fajitas. Eat it over rice, in lettuce wraps, or tortillas. Cut it up raw, cook in crock pot o4 over stove and add noodles at the end. I really like it that way and it’s what I’m making for dinner. Cook it, shred it, put it over salad or pizza. If pizza…adding French fries is good. Try to show us what you decide to do with it.

I love dates. I had a date and opened it, added peanut butter, just to see if it takes like my favorite candy bar....I disagree. It has the chewiness and peanut butter flavor of a snicker bar... bit completely missed chocolate.

I got some of those Cocoa Crisps last week at our pantry. I was so excited, I opened it right away cuz I was gonna munch them. Well, I could smell the staleness as soon as I opened them. Tasted em, it was like eating cardboard. Then I saw they expired in January. Needless to say, I don't have chickens, so can't feed it to them. Lol

  • @usatodaywife

I'd toss some cracklins into my food processor and turn them into "bread crumbs" and then use them as breading on chicken or pork chops or mixed into meatloaf.

Just wanna say ginger beer is nothing like root beer it’s “spicy”. Case ur kids don’t like it cos that brand is really expensive over in the UK

I’m wondering if you could soak the hard crackling in water or broth to soften it and add it to casseroles or veggies for flavor.

I'm not quite sure I agree with your choice of all those chips and other snacks with their empty calories as they are not nourishing and in fact think you could have made significantly better choices.

    • @weepingwillowhomestead
      @weepingwillowhomestead  2 года назад +1

Yep, they are junk. That is one area we don't get a big choice in because they always have a bunch of chips. I could take less of them but we often take them to share at backyard pitch-ins and church functions.
