Fun fact: windows no longer has a bug testing department, they crowd source system configs and bugs by using telemetry. If you disable it, it's less data for them to figure out what's wrong and issue updates to fix or patch bugs and security holes.
It's a very scummy way of justifying their spyware, which is also used to issue targeted ads, but unfortunately , you kind of need diagnostic data enabled for them to help you any more

For shortcuts just rightclick on the program in the Taskbar while the program is running and secire it to the taskbar. Now you can open it up by pressing the Windows key and the corresponding number. If the program is number 2 on the taskbar press Windows+2 and the program will open 😁

  • @Zombie_Burger
    @Zombie_Burger 3 года назад +9

About the whole quicker shutdown thing..
These setting may work fine on one system and not on another it sometimes it depends on other factors like network connections.
Just saying, shutting down faster may cause you to loose data stored in cache and not yet written to disk due to other factors. Eg: shutting down while platforms like steam are auto syncing on slow networks, or saving stuff to external or NAS or cloud services.
If you have Hdd's and they are for just storage or games don't forget to DEFRAG them with a good piece of software, but I always find windows built in defrag to be lacking.
SSD's and nvme's etc are super fast for boot drives vs Hdd. eg: 4 to 60 seconds vs 1 to 6 minutes on hdd. (after bios boot ,not counting bios boot, which will depend on pc). Over time and by the nature of how they store and delete data this will/may (over time) give you a false view of the stored data taken up by the files on the drive. So remember to
TRIM the ssd's. (right click the drive/properties/tools/optimize), same as defrag for hdd's but only takes about 4 sec.
Also don't rely on windows to Trim SSD's. Never got this to work on several pc's even when set to daily.

      1. Disable windows defender through local group policy and install 360 total security and malwarebytes adwcleaner.
      2. Disable windows search service and superfetch service through services.msc, disable auto scheduled defragmentation, because disabling these services really speeds up the windows.
      3. Enable win32 long path in registry, uncheck hide file extensions for known file types in view options of file explorer, enable launch explorer windows in own process.
      4. If using vpn, make sure to disable webRTC in all browsers using add-ons.
      5. Disable administrative shares to enhance security.
      6. Install shareX for advanced screenshot.
      7. Install deskpins for pinning any window to always stay on top.
      8. Install auslogics boostspeed and tweak windows with its dozens of god level options you can never find in other softwares, and install auslogics driver updater.
      9. Install Picasa photo viewer for ultimate full screen transition based photo viewing experience.
      10. Install .Net framework 3.5 and 4.5 or above or enable through turn windows features on dialogue box. Many programs depend on it.
      11. Install all vc++ redistributable packages since version 2005 through 2018, also install x64 versions if the os is 64bit.
      12. Install MPC-HC full version, k-lite codec pack, divx including divx player with HEVC codec, ac3 audio decoder, QuickTime codecs and dfx audio enhancer for rich media experience. Install Handbrake for DVD ripping, video encoding and format converting.
      13. Install gif viewer, swf viewer, 7-zip, autoruns, speccy, recuva, ultracopier, unlocker, USB safely remove, clipboard fusion and synergy.
      14. Install clonezilla, AOMEI backupper, mini tool partition wizard, ERUNT emergency recovery unit to take complete backup of your files, applications and registry.
      15. Install portableapps from portableapps.com straight to the hard-disk or USB.
      16. Install and use peerblock as an additional firewall for ip based advanced blocking, install and use Tor browser if you know what you're doing.
      17. VyprVPN and PIA are good vpn services, make sure to enable vpn kill switch. Vpn flashed routers are handy.
      18. Install Dnsjumper to quickly flush and refresh dns cache and find fastest available public dns services and apply to all or specified network adapters.
      19. Install object desktop and rainmeter to change the look and feel of windows like never before, with these applications, UI and UX are heavenly experience.
      20. Install virtualbox to try out other OS and install MEMU for ready-made android.
      21. Install Revo uninstaller or iobit uninstaller to clean uninstall programs.

Not sure if you've already figured it out. In case not, go to Settings>Apps>Default Apps>Under the "Web browser" heading, click Edge to open the drop selection menu. In the drop down, choose "Google Chrome". It may try one last time to convince you to keep Edge as the default browser, but you can choose "Switch anyway".
Programs you download will be saved to your Downloads folder. Once you install the program, most programs will create a shortcut on your desktop and if not, you should be able to search for the program through the built-in search bar in the taskbar.

Is there any way to make File Manager always ALWAYS "view details"? It keeps switching back to some other icon view. I've changed to options to Apply to Folders but it never stays that way.

Great stuff with some real useful tips for the less geek :)
One question regarding the "Disable Lock Screen" bit (9:14): I made the NoLockScreen registry entry (a while back), but it has no apparent effect - everything happens the same at system startup as it did before. Since this is my home PC with virtually no chance of anybody other than me ever using it, the startup login is just an unnecessary hassle for me. Could anyone explain to me why this regedit apparently doesn't work for me? Could it be because it's Win 10 Home edition?
