surprise striper, nice man. for anyone reading this, tie your knots TIGHT with this lure. it works best in shallow breaks and dives a bit, so it tends to dig into the bottom if you're not careful. i lost one like this, bye bye $20😭. otherwise, it slays the big perch!, set my then-pb on it last year👍🎣
The nice thing about perch fishing is it is less of a production than getting out the kayak or jumping on a boat. It gives me more opportunities to get out fishing and throw together a video!
I hear yah. I do all my fishing from the shore, and I love fishing for surf perch. It's my favorite fish to catch. What I would like to do someday is to be able to catch a video of surf perch feeding on sandcrabs, right there in the first trench out. That would be be awesome! I haven't seen such a video yet, and if there is one out there I'd sure like to see it. I've never done any scuba diving, so perhaps I need to stop by Andersons and take a few lessons. Then I could take my Go Pro out into the surf on a smooth clear summer day and get some video of it.
Nice video. I’ve been using LC flash 110 for a long time. Very versatile and productive. For bigger perch try using the 115 and also try during a bigger surf. Not sure what the conditions were but the video looks closer to low tide. High tide is the best, but a false high tide is not as good as an angry surf.
Got my lucky flash set up my med heavy rod w 30lb braid to 20lb mono swiveled..good casting practice..but feel like it needs some weight to cast successfully..also do you use waders and what tides do you favor..like your work no attitude getting it done keep it up
Thanks for watching! I don't use waders but most people who fish the surf will wear them. In general, most people prefer high tide for fishing the surf.
The only thing I would suggest is changing the hooks out. I caught a 10 pound striper fishing for perch and it bent the hooks really bad. As much as I love the lucky craft lures, the hooks are not good for heavier fish. Nice video dude.
Thanks for the tip! I actually did that already. I caught a 21 pound striper earlier this year and it bent out all three hooks, lol. Video is live on my channel!
Nice trip, on average, about how many cast before hooking on to a fish with that lure? I have yet to catch a fish from the beach using lures, maybe in just to impatient lol!
The best advice I could give when fishing for Perch and other close to shore fish is...learn to read a beach. How to spot what structure, soft and hard, make up the area. Troughs, cuts, rips, holes etc. It will help you immensely in finding fish. Truthfully lure choice makes much less difference that that.
mrtoady2, well said. Good advice there. Vaaj, it really depends on the day. On this day I was getting one every 10-15 casts on average but I just went again and got a skunk. As they say, that is why the call it fishing and not catching!
Die Hard Fishing yeah, I usually cast about 10-15 times at a spot that I would be getting hit on sand worms, but no luck... like you said, that's fishing...
I'm at Avila beach right now fishing haha. Caught one so far on a spoon. 1st time ever fishing on the beach. I ruined my fishing pole that's for sure haha.
Im new to fishing altogether and last week I've been to vacation on sea with just one catch. However, that can be explained by time of fishing since I was fishing at wrong times at noon or with no rising or falling tide. I was tight with time so didin't have much time anyway to try to go in ideal fishing times but nevermind. My question is how fast do you retrieve minnows, I did it really slow (slower than in this video) but is that good or should I do it little bit faster?
I like to change up the speeds to figure out what is working on that particular day. Somedays they like it moving faster and other days they like it slower. Just depends what kind of mood the fish are in!
They only way you could do it wrong...is to fail to open the box. heh. I also recommend the Ima Sasuke 120. Pretty much the same action/swim depth. Very slow floating vs suspending, but that doesn't make any difference. And what sets it apart from the flash minnow is how much better it casts.(weight transfer like sp minnow). It swims a little deeper, which will cause it to dig into sand sometimes, but not often. Also use a Yozuri Mag Minnow with success from time to time. 3 1/2" one.
Thanks for the tip, I might have to give those a try next! I'm starting to get addicted to plugging the surf, especially now that I am having success with perch and striper! Hopefully a video to come!
Feeling that big hit on a plug, or better yet seeing a big fish stalking and then exploding on a top water is just plain great. Addictive indeed. There is also the Ima Komomo ii 90 or 110. That is similar as well. Very shallow running and only has 2 larger hooks rather than 3. Needs calmer conditions.
Got a question I'm fairly new to surf fishing, I have a lc but had trouble casting it out, seemed too light and wouldn't cast far, any tips? Is low tide best when using this lure?
Generally people like to fish during high tide for surfperch. It can be a tough lure to cast but one tip I would give is to try using braided line. This line is thinner in diameter and casts better than monofilament or fluorocarbon.
@d t... like any fraternity, you gotta put your time in. Fish your local spots enough then you won't have to ask. Or, alternately, take a more experienced Fisher out for lunch sometime, make friends, go fishing.
Greetings Die Hard !! You went from 30 braid to 20 mono directly to the lure .. This might be a dumb question but, what knot did you use ? Or it doesn’t matter ? Plenty thanks !!
I use a power swivel in the middle to prevent line twists. The knot is a Palomar knot. There are plenty of knots you can use but this is the one I use because it is easy to tie on the go. Hope this helps!
Thanks for responding DH .. I’m a newb and just got into surf fishing thanks to you and a few other Chanels .. just learned the palomar knot and was a bit confused on how to wrap the doible end around the lure but I figured it out .. thanks again .. Much RESPECT !!
A lot of people have success with single hooks on the Daiwa SP minnow, so I'm thinking it would also be an improvement for the Flash minnow. I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon. I'm about to use your amazon link!
Living on the edge😂 if you aren’t fishing near structures it should be ok if you tie good knots. I use 12 as a rule of thumb but some fish can be finicky down here in SoCal
Die Hard Fishing no problem it used to be on the front page but I had to go in there and look for it and I found it for you. fishingnetwork.net/forum4/showthread.php?34019-Modifying-Customizing-amp-Personalizing-Your-Lucky-Crafs!

Nice video Adam, I’m gonna give Lucky craft a try but I’m gonna put a 40lbs leader and 40lbs braid with heavy duty swivel just to secure that $20 lure from snapping hahaha JK
I"m using 10 lb straight flouro P-line. 10 # for every 1oz of weight and an LC110 is just 5/8 oz. I don't see any need for any more than 12-14 lbs unless you're worried about getting caught on a boiler rock or other structure. If its heavy seaweed then I wouldn't even fish the LC. 40 lb will surely affect the action of the LC or any similar lure.
No they don’t have to be 18” if you are South a point conception they can be any size. By what you saying they have to be 18” you most be north of point conception

I am not sure where you are staying but there are plenty of beaches up and down the coast that are good for surf fishing. Any sandy beach will have surfperch and you might get lucky with a striper!
How to make an informative video: First tell us what you are going to say (or do), then say it (or do it) and last, say what it was you said, or did. After all that, where did you say exactly WHICH "Lucky Craft Flash Minnow" (there are about 50 styles between the Japan models alone) you are using ? I count 15 different "Sardine" types on LC's site (in just one size). Floating ? Suspending ? Sinking ?"F" or "FW" ? I got so frustrated, I missed you (perhaps somewhere in your video) even stating the size, or the weight. Very uninformative video.

Good advice, I don't want my $20 sailing off into the sunset!
Die Hard Fishing Palomar or Uni and your good to go. Check your knot frequently. Use 10lb test and stronger at the sacrifice of casting distance
The fish bites when he either stop or is slowing reeling in. I have seen this so many times ... my personal experience also confirms it. Nice video
Thanks for watching!
Wow. You're putting out videos every day. Great variety of fishing techniques. Keep up the good work!

Great video, Adam! Can't wait for spring to arrive here in Maine. Looking forward to catching more stripers and bluefish. 28" is the limit up here.
I wish we had fish that caliber over here!
never mind....30pound braid to 20 pound mono using swivel... got it... well done man

💯💪👊LET'S GO!!! Nice unboxin! Im tune in awesome vid💯
the first hit came at the time you slowed it down (to yawn?) and paused it. Killer technique
Yep! Always pays to yawn while fishing
Lol figured but didn’t wanna assume you were yawning
Fun video man! I’ve been wanting to try out the flash minnow for a while now, keep dragging my feet! Keep it up dude 😊
Give it a shot!

Do you ever have people join you? I want to learn how to fish!
The Flash Minnow is an amazing lure for that application.
Agreed!
One thing for sure, it works.
You can also coat your LC with epoxy so they last longer and the finish is not scrapped of by sharp teeth. Get self leveling epoxy.
That is a great idea! I will try that out. Thank you!
I’m from Bay areas too, totally a beginner. Would you mind to share the exact location of the beach?
The only thing I would suggest is changing the hooks out. I

well done, lots of fish and even a striped bass
Thanks for watching!
I got a 31 inch California halibut on that same lure
That would be a dream come true!
I'm at Avila beach right now fishing haha. Caught one so far on a spoon. 1st time ever fishing on the beach. I ruined my fishing pole that's for sure haha.

@@DieHardFishing I caught only 1 haha. But it was worth it! Caught it on camera too lol. Just a smallish one around 7 inches. 🤣
Nice job...get some needlenose pliers for your pocket...so much easier to get fish off
Did you drive all the way to near santa cruz to fish ?
are you going to be fishing the same area this weekend, i might go out there with one of my friends
where is this i want to go with..
Probably not this weekend. Good luck out there!

There is so much cool tackle out there. I practically have as much fun buying and trying, as I do catching. Not really, but still.
what lb. test were your main line and leader. Sorry if you said in the video because I missed it.
I believe 15 pound test!
Do you have a Rec for an affordable rod to cast the LC far? Saw the Shimano but looking for a bit cheaper if possible. Thanks!
I would look for something in the 9-10 foot range. I don't know any specifics but I am sure there are some cheaper ones out there!
@@DieHardFishing awesome thanks man!
Just ordered a lucky flash..do you think it's a good call to debarb the treble hooks? I hate barbs
I always keep the barbs but if you are going to do catch and release it might be a good move to take them off.
What model is that lucky craft?...I was trying to order but damn they got alot of different ones on their site.
It is a flash minnow 110 I believe, in metallic sardine pattern
Your first casts, were you getting that light plug out past the first break?
Yep!
Does this lure work only on perch and stripers or it targets a huge veriaty of fish
It can catch pretty much anything that would eat an anchovy.
Got a question I'm fairly new to surf fishing, I have a lc but had trouble casting it out, seemed too light and wouldn't cast far, any tips? Is low tide best when using this lure?

Agreed, need to do a surfperch catch and cook soon!
hi..it is sinking or floaring lure?
What do you think about replacing the treble hooks with single hooks?
Do you have any experience with that? I have never tried it.

Thanks for using the link! And let me know how it goes! If it helps maybe I will switch mine out!
What surf beach is that?
What kind of knot would you reccomend with this lure?
I use the clinch knot.
Where is this beach?
Going to the coast Saturday. Looking forward to throwing a couple jerk baits now. Thanks
Good luck!!!!
Share your spots bro it's not that big of a deal..looks like Guadalupe to me
What retrieve method were you using
Just a straight retrieve. Slow and steady, enough to feel the action of the lure.
1 question...what kind of line did you use?
30lb kastking braid on this reel
what lb braid did you use?
and what lb leader
30 pound braid for mainline and 20 pound mono leader.
Someone uses 10 lb. braid, is that too light?

Can you come to SF?
I fish there from time to time
What kind of action are is your rod ?
Slow action
Where do u fish
This lure deteriorates very fast ,,,,after one day of use it shows paint is fading 😢😢😢
True, I've still caught fish with no paint though!
What par of California is this
Central California
You didn't use any weight? Just let the lure drift?
No weight, just the lure!
What’s the best knot to use for this
I use the good old Palomar knot.
Awesome video
