  • Action movie stars scale lift shafts or jump atop elevator cars in blockbusters like the Matrix. But for lift technician Mohammad Hazri, the dangers of getting electrocuted by high-voltage wires, slipping and plummeting 30 storeys, or getting fingers or limbs caught on moving parts are all part of the job. He troubleshoots HDB lift stalls that can be caused by careless litter or playful children.
#OnTheRedDot’s new series “Risky Business” looks at jobs in Singapore where individuals risk their lives every time they go to work - possibly some of the world's most dangerous jobs. Yet, they keep putting themselves in harm’s way to keep our lives running smoothly. The series profiles rope access workers, commercial divers, lift technicians and cargo ship operators.

Business opportunity to integrate in smart watch, or separate device that measures heart/pulse rates with movement sensor. If watch or bracelet detects pulse rates and no movement for 15 mins, humans during operational hours tend to move the arms frequently, unless sleeping on the job, the bracelet via the phone's internet contact company's command centre AI system to auto robot call technician, if technician no answer phone call after 2 tries, AI system deploy 1 human to technician's work site with last technician last known phone's GPS location to investigate. If technician answer phone via voice recognition says "I'm ok", then AI system restart loop to monitor health and status of human resources. 2. Business opportunity to enrich government coffers by delegate a policy when there are elevator outage issue, after technician investigated the issue and documented that the reason is malicious or unintentional littering, the elevator maintenance company by law have to report to the police who will review the CCTV footage to identify the identity of the litter bug to issue fine to prevent future elevator outage, where the money from the fines are invested in profitable markets and the dividends from the investments are used to provide financial and resource assistance to the unfortunate, e.g. discarded orphans by gang members, or discarded elderly by rich educated kids (verbal small sample size stereotype or are there any big data to support precedents?), or those who suffer from poor health and disablement. 3. As we can see that the property developer, seller of the land and property, architects, buyers of properties (current owners), property maintenance company and government departments that approved the project are not liable for future accidents. Why don't architect revamp future lift shaft so the lift can at most go to its max height and there's redundant empty space for 1 human at the top of lift's max height so technician won't get crushed. Cost benefit analysis for boss decision making: company legal, financial, and reputational compensation to dead technician, $200,000 to $1 million insurance payout to victim (damages to system), hard to sell out flat units at that floor level if someone died as Asians are generally superstitous (damage to property value) outweighs the cost of a 2m by 2m block of empty space? 4. Technician employee self pay to buy a full body suit / a pair of high flexi military grade tear resistant gloves that prevents him, her or gender X from being electrocuted. Self pay thus will take care of suit. Better than buying luxury items or things that are not necessary for survival. Please feedback to management.

There should always be a button with a phone on it. Push that and it’ll call the company and they’ll send someone out there to get you. Could still be stuck for a bit if there isn’t someone close by but they will get there.
