You have the correct greater meaning of the song, but more specifically it was written by Jeff Lynne while enjoying watching a crystal blue sky break through after many days of dark clouds and rain. We have all experienced that joy and relief at some point in our lives, so that's what makes the song so relatable. Finally, the song is full of many Beatlesque techniques and callbacks.

If i remember the story right, Jeff was in Switzerland to write music and it had been rainy for awhile and he wasnt getting much done, then one afternoon the sun came out and it cleared up. Concerto For A Rainy Day came out of it
I can still remember when it came out in 1977, I was 12. There was only one good music program on German radio, it came on Wednesdays and the presenter was known for chatting into the songs. He only played the entire song once when the songs were new in the charts. First you had to record everything on cassette, even if you didn't know whether the song was any good. With MrBlue Sky I was so proud to have included the beautiful ending! Back then, it wasn't as easy to get good music as it is today if you didn't have much pocket money. The radio only played "grandma music" and records were expensive. If you had a good record, you were so proud that you wanted to wear it over your head all the time so everyone could see what excellent taste in music you had!😂

Jeff Lynne (who is from my home city of Birmingham, UK) is a musical genius and great producer. E.L.O. had loads of fantastic songs and my favourite is 'AllOver The World' which is also a happy song and makes you want to dance. They sound just as good live (if not better) than they do on the studio versions. E.L.O. were still doing concerts just before the pandemic happened.
ELO was a pop music Vocoder innovator. The Vocoder heard throughout the Out Of The Blue album was a prototype sent to Jeff by the manufacturer while ELO was recording the album. Jeff and band keyboardist Richard Tandy struggled to learn how to play it through trial and error. A fond childhood memory had Jeff use the Vocoder. The distortion reminded him of the talking piano in “Sparky’s Magic Piano,” a 1940s era children’s vinyl record series he listened to as a young boy. The piano’s voice sounds shockingly similar to a Vocoder but was created differently 30 years earlier. There are Sparky videos posted on RUclips.

Some songs need to be heard just for production quality. Jeff Lynne was pretty innovative in the studio and worked with a lot of artists as producer. By 1977 ELO was a little more commercial and a little less progressive, but this is one of their best tracks.
This was their album Out of the blue. A double album, a sheet of card was inserted in it. You presses out the pieces, and folded them together, you got a little model of the spaceship on the cover. It was cute. The initial ones were made of blue vinyl too, my copy is standard black. Four sides the third side is Concerto for a rainy day, which finishes with blue sky the tracks before that are about wet weather, but they're not gloomy, they're upbeat too. The phrase at the end of Blue Sky - Please turn me over, refers to the record. Bands used to play around with the format. Other great tracks for this collection are.: it's over. Stepping out. Big wheels Wild west hero That's more or less my favourite from each side. It's all good really From their previous New World Record, a couple worth listening to are Telephone Line Livin'thing. Their first single - 10538 overture is good, as are singles diary of Horace Wimp, and Don't bring me down. They did a lot, I think they got the notion of adding strings and orchestration to the music from the Beatles Sgt. Pepper era sound. It certainly creates a richer sound.
It's hard to overstate how just damn everywhere this song was in England when it came out. It's almost impossible to listen to this and be in a bad mood.
ELO is an amazing band! If you wanna hear an amazing Live version, look for "Live in Hyde Park 2014". a full orchestra and the band is absolutely on fire. The guest violin player is incredible (and NOT to hard to look at!)

First synthesiser the Moog, came out in the 60s, the Beatles got their hands on a very early one, and Keith Emerson was playing with them in the early 70s.

The voice synth is called a vocoder. You speak words into a microphone which is plugged into a particular type of synth. Although the concept was invented in the 30s, I think ELO were first to use it on record but I stand to be corrected.

Agree with all except, the album was 33rpm right? I don't have Out of the Blue in my not very large collection, but I don't think it was an EP.
