James Reyne has to be one of the most interesting and original singers I have ever heard!! His vocal delivery and his phrasing are what made me sit up and start taking notice of this song just a few nights ago when it was on the radio.....no one else sings like he does! This and “Downhearted”. Truly awesome pieces of Australian rock of the 1980’s, but still sound sooooo fresh today in 2019!

Her voice sounds incredible tho & anyone else's wouldn't have had the same feel. I love 80s music, it's my fave genre. Music really was music. None of this auto tuned crap that's spewed forth these days & singers & groups had images cos that's what they liked - not for (attempted) shock value/attention to sell their auto tuned rot that sounds just like the next person. The 80s had some gr8 Aussie singers & bands - eg - 1927, Pseudo Echo, Models, Kids In The Kitchen, Icehouse, Kate Ceberano, O N John, James Reyne, Eurogliders, Inxs, Kylie Minogue, Goanna, Divynals, Wa Wa Nee, Uncanny X Men, Australian Crawl, Darryl Braithwaite, John Farnham, Mental As Anything.....Aussie Aussie Aussie.

It took me more than a decade to find this song that used to play on radio! That time my english was even worst and I heard "in my head" instead of "hammerhead", so my quests always failed. Buy today - OH, TODAY! - I'm here and very glad :)
(I thought the voice was very look alike of the Australian Crawl frontman, searched all the albums, never found anything... and I didn't know James Reyne had a solo career, hence I never looked for this song using his name. My god, why didn't I think of that before? haha...)

I hear distant echoes of this brilliant song when I hear Weeknd sing “I can’t feel my face when I’m with you - but I love it”. It’s a masterclass in perfect songwriting. A flawless subtle performance commenting on such a painful subject. Australia produces some of the world’s truly gifted talent. What great insight into the world of heroin addiction “You’re like the devil in heaven - every time”. Praiseworthy art at its finest. Oh how the whole world needs to hear more brutally honest songs like this classic. A perfect cautionary tale and one very much worth listening to. “A simple meaningless pop song you heard on the radio”? Good Lord “No”. This is artistic expression married to loving and experienced concern at its best. Like taking Holy Communion at Holy Mass one must chew on the subject, digest it and become one flesh with it. Absolutely brilliant art. 10/10
