This was a song that you instantly liked, it was a hit right out of the box. Still sounds very awesome many years later. Ian Moss was Chisels secret weapon, amazing voice, amazing guitarist.
Cold Chisel my Baby
Mossy is easily one of Australia's greatest guitarists of all time!!!
Easily
@@mseedo5092 aww was awake a
his style is totally unique and has magic in it. distinct, yet not moulded. very talented musician.
And vocalists..
The far better singer In chisel... More than just a screamer
🙏🏼✨🥇🏆🏅🎣⚘💐🎯⬆️🎵🎙💞🎸🎶
Probably the most under rated, under appreciated singer/guitarist on the planet.
LOL
I'd like to agree 100%.
Not probably ,IS .
I’m an American that has just discovered Cold Chisel and am going down the rabbit hole of them and Jimmy Barnes/Ian Moss’s solo careers. I might be late to the party but I’m glad I’m here. Definitely deserved more worldwide recognition.
ENJOY MATE WE AUSSIES LOVE MOSSY AND BARNSEY TOO ❤
We welcome you from Australia down the rabbit hole of the iconic legends cold chisel and mossy/barnsey and more.
There is a reason they didn't hit the US market in the 80's, they chose not to, I know them personally, interesting story and times
Keep going
Not only is Mossy a great guitarist and vocalist, but he also co-wrote this song with (former Cold Chisel bandmate) Don Walker. It also reached #1 on the Aussie charts in March 1989 and was there for one week. Triple M plays this occasionally as part of their classic rock format. Pretty good for a debut single by a solo artist. 🎸
I vividly recall the first time I heard this song. Driving from Warragul to Nhill to see my parents, this song came on local radio and was touted as Ian Moss's latest song. This was 1988. It started exactly as I was going driving past the Sisters Rocks just east of Stawell. Blew me away. And now, at 64, 33 years later, it still does it for me.
And - on every trip back home to Nhill, ( and my Mum is now 91 ) - I hear the song every time - every time I pass those graffiti covered rocks. But only on the way west ....
That's a beautiful, vivid recollection. Thanks.
Great comment! Driven that road 100s of times.
Does sound like a good memory. Of course, it's over 1000km from Narrabri to Stawell.
Great Story, good TELL ING ,Peace and luv ZION ALL WAYS!!!🇦🇺💐😄🥇🪙🪅🏠🎉💮🌻🌺🏵️🌹🌍🎀⚔️💍💎🏆🎯🎁✌️🗝️🌸💯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
Ian, similar story. I was travelling home TO Stawell from my finance in Geelong. Great travelling song even now. 👍
Living here in the US of A, Ian Moss is not really known. I think there was one or two Cold Chisel LPs released here, but went nowhere. Very sad, actually. That being said, I first heard him on a cassette tape that an Australian pen-pal of mine sent to me in the early 90's. We'd send tapes back and forth sharing our favorite artists. From the first time I heard the songs from "Matchbox", I loved this music and had my friend send me his albums when released down there. Funny how Aussies didn't even know who Tommy James & The Shondells were. I got her into them and she got me into Ian Moss and Cold Chisel. Hey, Ian at least has one fan here in America!
Yeah it's surprising that more Americans don't like genuine Australian music. Ian moss is a legend. Enjoy Jimi
As an Aussie I can assure you we certainly did know who Tommy James was as he also toured here as well.
Isn't it crazy how the experience differs. Definitely lucky in the modern day how much exposure music gets. Lots of hidden gems from both sides of the globe. Great story mate.
Leave us Aussies alone not our fault the British thought this was a shit country 😂
L. R. B bro ❤
Ian Moss. Probably the best guitar player, Australia ever produced.
If not top 3
Tommy Emmanuel #1 surely
Absolutely
....angus young? sorry i love ian moss but angus is surely the best from down under?

My mother played this a lot when I was a kid in the 80s. She was a crap mother but man she had brilliant taste in music. Thanks for the tunes Ian, absolute banger.

Old school Australia right here!! Loved hearing this when I was 11 and I still like this now....This kind of Aussie lingo is fading away fast and it's only a memory now but a great one though...
💛💚💯💥
Still a great song after all these years, a true Aussie classic.
@parisjackson9310 Hello, how are you doing it's nice meeting you here
I remember this in the 80's growing up
This song is timeless in 2022. I still hear this song everywhere I go and it never gets old
rips me a new one every time I hear it
Definitely one of the catchiest and grooviest choruses ever written. Can listen to it over and over and over and never eat bored of it.
Very cool song.

33 years ago, as a newly graduated university student, I backpacked around Australia for 2 months. I remember this song being a huge hit on the radio at the time. Still such a great song! 🇦🇺🇨🇦❤️

My childhood. Pure classic. No autotune, just pure talent. Plenty of dynamic, timbre, not over-compressed.

Ian Moss has a sound , whether he is playing with Barnsey , Richard Clapton or Joe Camilleri , you know it's Mossy . He is a great singer as well .
Unrecognised national treasure
Recognised national treasure.
I was in Aus in 89 and this was played a lot on the radio, I loved all the Aussie bands on the radio that year and so I took them all back with me and they mark one of the best times of my life, I was young free and single and met so many great people and never laughed so much in all my life!
Me too. Living in Aus in ‘89 was really a very special time.
Globalism killed our national identity and our style of music referring to this style, very sad....
Classic, dynamic and still utter magic in 2022..❤️

2023 and this song still sounds fresh and ROCKS!!!!!
Mossy is a hidden talent that need to get his name around there
yeah he was great - in 1988 - bit older now ... but still touring according to the dates at the top of this page - still good
Soon as I woke up on a Saturday morning back in '89, '90. Channel 10, Video Hits, Coffee, Vegemite toast, OH YEAH!!!!!!!

Ian Moss will always be a favourite and revered guitarist, singer, and songwriter of mine. Has a great guitar and voice tone all of the time.👍
Good song from a fantastic CD that I got for my 16th birthday in August 1989. However, Telephone Booth is even better!
Haha . I have had the CD from 86 and i agree Telephone Booth is the second song on the CD and roars high !

Awesome Aussie Classic
At one stage in time Ian moss was rated as the best Rock and roll guitarist in Australia, Jimmy Barnes and various other musicians have said his tone and his touch on the strings is bar none, his lead tones are just heavenly 🎸😊👍
I love those backup boys.
I went to high school with the model in this vid. Seemed like such a nice person. Glad she did something like this video. I never had a chance.
Are you from New Zealand
She did a lot more than this video
@@earsquad6759 She had various TV roles - including Blue Heelers ... for those who remember her cheeky character: Constable Deirdre "Dash" McKinley. In this video though, she was only 15.
Was extremely lucky to see Ian Moss in Cairns last weekend and get a front row spot ❤ absolutely amazing artist
!LYRICS!
Hang me for a sucker
On the plains out of Narrabri
Swingin' a hoe in a CAL-cotton row
Sweatin' on the dangers to me
Bossman's Mr. Tucker
He's a man I don't care to defy
And his only child wicked and wild is seeking my company
She want to build me up tear me down
Slap my knee bones to the ground
Me and mine are gonna be around
When Tuckers' daughter's a memory
Hot sun is a killer
She'll be waitin' at the end of my line
Taking the shade with a cool lemonade sayin'
Boy I want to talka to you
Bossmans' only daughter
She ain't his and she'll never be mine
Never be down on a dollar or two
Or told what she's gonna do
She want to build me up tear me down
Slap my knee bones to the ground
Me and mine are gonna be around
When Tuckers' daughters a memory
Build me up tear me down
I won't kneel 'til the trumpet sounds
And Tuckers' daughter's a memory
People born with all they need
They don't understand
Everything you want don't come from holding out your hand
Tuckers' daughter thinks she sees
A slave at her command
I know you need some time yet baby
But when the time is right
Babe I just ain't your man
[INSTRUMENTAL]
She's gonna build me up tear me down
Slap my knee bones to the ground
Me and mine are gonna be around
When Tuckers' daughters a memory
Build me up tear me down
I won't kneel 'til the trumpet sounds
And Tuckers' daughter's a memory
'On the plains out of Narrabri' - we stopped for lunch in Narrabri driving back from Lightning Ridge a month ago - a lotta cotton grown in them there parts ... 'Swingin' a hoe in a CAL-cotton row' - I wonder if Bossman Mr Tucker knew that about his daughter ... ?

I remember this song when I was young 30 years ago. It takes on more relevance today now that Darcy Tucker has left Fremantle to go to North Melbourne. Perhaps to be closer to his daughrer.
Can we have Caleb Serong?
i'm one of the few yanks about here-commenting of this guy's work from cold chisel, and of him solo. (cold chisel should have been way bigger than what they spot of across the music space per america back then-i get why though ultimately they weren't:(the barne's voice per all of his works too-breath-taking!! with age comes understanding and wisdom, listening to this awesome song after so many years, I finally get it, ...life and love in general, and i'm cool with that..
Geeez and how the memories come flooding back.....................1988 and, life was so much simpler.................
A time when there was no internet, no global warming and no PC bullshit. We lived week to week and all we cared about was............where was our favorite song on Casey Kasem's weekly countdown...........shit that's all that mattered.
I had just split up with the Mr's, felt like crap and so, one day just decided to get up early one Saturday morning..............jumped in the Holden and just cruised...........destination? unknown.
Played my cold chisel and Ian Moss tapes and, suddenly, life just got a whole lot easier................
Even today, .......................If i have any worries/issues, it's back to the Holden, destination unknown and Jimmy and the boy's .....just make the blue's fade away!!!!!!
Geez i miss those days!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Jim.
Thank you for sharing your memories. 👍
The (80s) greatest generation for music, it had meaning and still does. You can love, have your heart broken but still be able to pick yourself up when you had music with meaning in your lives!!!
