    Haven’t seen Summit THIS invested in the development background of an MMO, let alone a video game, watching an hours long documentary. You can tell he’s actually interested in the process of FFXIV’s death and rebirth. Really cool to see!

      @@eatingmiketysonsass3802 The reason he didn’t want to watch it on stream was because it was a 3 part documentary that went for a couple hours and even though chat suggested it first, Summit was interested in watching it regardless but wasn’t sure if chat would want to watch with him for THAT long. Reason why he watched the other two super long parts.

    There's actually a sight seeing log that also references the great goobbue wall called the lonely giant just to the east of camp drybone. A single goobbue stands covered in foliage and its surroundings with an npc explaining that he was part of the battle of carteneau and fled there when his master was struck, collecting seeds along the way which grew around him where he finally succumbed to his injuries.

    Yeah, the Crystal Tools engine that they used in XIV had a number of problems, and one of those was that they wouldn't have been able to put out expansions on it. 1.0 looked prettier than 2.0, but that was the only part of the engine that essentially worked, and even there, the graphics were lagging everything.

    Final Fantasy 14's Legacy Style movement is best used with a controller because 1.0 was made to be played with a controller first. Even in all its disjointed glory. Without the controller, you cannot move precisely or with complete control. It's not too obvious as to why if you are tend to play with the camera zoomed out, but it is very noticeable, especially if you've played games where you move STRAIGHT.
    That's right. Whenever you move left or right, you are never moving straight. You are moving at a curve toward the camera. The sharpness of the curve tied to how zoomed in the camera is. The closer it is, the sharper the curve. Additionally the strafe left and right keys conflict with the move left and right function. If any combo of 2 of the four is used, then you will cease movement altogether. Why they never adjusted it to be more functional and less restrictive may have everything to do with it being the "Legacy" style. It's how it used to be. If you want that in all its glory, then knock yourself out.
    The legacy style movement's only three benefits are that 1) you can move toward the camera at full speed instead of backpedaling, 2) you will not be turned around if you use any action no matter which way you were facing as the movement is based on the camera's orientation, NOT the player character's, and 3) you can enjoy a more dynamic camera.
    The cons are so severe, that Standard movement will beat out Legacy any day of the week, especially in precise movements and having total control over how you move.

      @KonaGaming you should’ve seen him during his last stream. During the 5 hour maintenance, this guy was so addicted to fishing that he waited and watched videos of FFXIV for hours just to wait for the server to come back up. Dude was on mad copium for a game he JUST started. I reckon his in this game for decent amount of time.

      @KonaGaming he said he’s not going to play New World already. He said that in today’s stream………He says there’s no point especially when it comes out next month.
      He also said he is enjoying FF14 and does not want to play New World yet.
      EDIT: Summit knows that FF14 has a booty PvP system, he is looking forward to the raids and will challenge himself, especially with the patience of raiding.

    • @llynaxx
      @llynaxx 3 года назад +4

      @@alxiong and the PVP was one of the reasons why he was very hesitant on playing FFXIV in general despite almost being done with MMO’s for a while. I think the simplistic yet complex abilities/combat, in-depth job rotations, user-friendly UI & engaging story (for the most part lol) are what I think are the one of many reasons why he’s able to stick with the game and watch hours of FFXIV content despite it’s PVP having a bad rep. Something where it matters to Summit A LOT.

      @KonaGaming He's fully aware that FF PvP is lacking from the RUclips videos he's watching before and during his playtime - I don't think he's playing it because of PvP, I mean last stream he was wanting to chill by Fishing
      He also said on stream that he's skipping over New World today to play FF. So he definitely has interest to play for now.
      Now if he does play through the whole MSQ and do some raids it's not like FF14 is going to be the only game he plays since it's designed in a way that you actually might have other games you want to play

    As a 1.0 vet, this game was hot garbage, but at the time it came out being an FFXI fan I didn't care. I still remember my adventures through 1.0 and I would do it again if I could go back. I remember your level didn't matter for armor, yes you can be level 1 and equip level 50 armor, yes you would get penalties, but it didn't matter once you hit level cap you had your armor. Crafting was god awful, each crafter worked off of another crafters' crafted item and they weren't leveled around the same time. For example at level 10 for carpenter, there was a recipe to make a level 10 lance, that recipe consisted of several items you needed, but they required level 20 crafters or higher to make those parts, just for a level 10 lance. There was no recipe book in-game for crafting, you had to memorize the mats needed for crafting something.
    They set up a separate place for you to put retainers to sell goods, there was no auction board or market boards like in ARR, you literally had to go through crowds of player-owned retainers to search for anything you wanted. we are talking wards that held 100+ retainers and there were like 20 wards to go through. They eventually added an item search function later which marked any retainer that had what you were looking for in that ward with a star above their head.

    • @Gwynbleidd_117
      @Gwynbleidd_117 3 года назад

      @@gin9410 I don’t disagree there were plenty of things I did enjoy , but there in lies the problem. XV is not a bad video game, but it is not a good FF, by any means. And a good, dare I say great, FF was exactly what the community expected. So considering they changed it to a mainline… on top of the resources that went into not only itself but its expanded universe.. the quality of story telling and world building, basically everything that makes a FF story what they are, imo, wasn’t acceptable. I defended XV all the way up to launch when others could see what I couldn’t. I’ve been a diehard FF fan since 7 I’ve played them all and I still currently play XIV since ARR, so what I say about XV is in no way from a place of hate just disappointment.

    Going back to watch this a year later I still find it funny Summit still didn't understand that 1.0 had better graphics than 2.0 did. It wasn't until stormblood and even more recently graphics in the new game were even close to 1.0. 1.0 had way more animations/animated cutscenes and a way higher base texture quality and polygon count which was half the problem the with the game as explained in the last video and the first part of this one where yoshida basically had to nerf the quality of the assets to make things progress smoothly to match the skill level of the programmers he had. Also I think people forget 2.0 was also sorta a disaster on launch. They got the game out it was defnitely not 1.0 bad but it wasn't great either. It took alot of patches for Realm Reborn to get good and even then the game didn't really get going until the expansion.

    in Asherons call...The Hopeslayer's arrival ...A red comet Was patched in and added in the sky ( like Game of thrones!) And all the water in the land turned to blood. players logged in one day and the world was totally different no one knew what was happening and there was no explanation ...Then he arrived a GIANT demon The Hopeslayer deamon appeared in random towns casting SUPER high level spell and just killing entire parties of Derath's heroes in one swoop he was twice the size of a normal player and controlled by a real life developer....
    It was a magical time to be into MMOs long before WoW's theme park formula set the industry bar MMOs made their mark on the genre.
    FF14 1.0's last days remind me of that time in Asheron' Call !
    anyone remember Animal in Asheron's call ? what a fucking Legened ... a regular player who stood toe to toe against the Hopeslayer with advanced strafe casting tactics that everyone would eventually adopt and use in AC PVP!

    You're right in that the 1.0 version of the game did look better than what we would get for several years in A Realm Reborn and beyond. The problem was that it ran like crap. It's one thing for a game to be so demanding that all but the most powerful rigs can't run it, but FF14 1.0 has a unique razzy of being so badly optimized that its own servers couldn't run it.
