I like the tones of semi hollows and agree with that black binding "pops" against the pink but for a custom shop and for the price I can't understand those tooling marks on the fretboard & between the nibs.. anyway good video nice touch with the delay effect..
Whether I liked this model instead of an ES classic or not, I have this to say. Gibson needs to continue doing creative explorations along the lines of whatever it was that spawned this model. It could have the simultaneous outcome of breaking new ground and preventing the classic models associated with the brand from becoming old hat.
I think it's a really cool design and I personally like it a lot. Would be fine for a standard model but custom shop? Nah it's way too plain and generic for that. Nothing really shines out to say its the cream of the crop or really something special sure it has unique colours but even back then you could get SG specials and faded lines, Les Paul studios and studio Firebirds with really cool unique colours and beautiful wood grains for far less money.
I really like the black binding with the pastel colors! That being said, these things were way too expensive - even after being heavily discounted. Gibson ought to take notes from Fender and the Meteora when it comes to releasing new shapes
I saw a video of Springsteen on the Colbert Show when he brought his Telecaster that he used for 50 years. It's got to be one of the most valuable guitars in existence. He held it up, showed the front and back. The back has the finish worn off on the upper part between the humps almost halfway across the body and some of the wood worn off in addition to the finish it looks like, it's just grey. The back of the neck is pretty worn too, it's darker in the upper part where he did most of the playing. You can see where a second jack had been installed below the one that's still there when it was used as a session guitar before it was sold to the guitar shop in Jersey where he bought it for $185. You can see the filled in screw holes and jack hole. He doesn't seem to have a name for it so I'll dub it Bossie. He said he'll probably be buried with it so I guess it will never be for sale.
Trog, you should have an amp that you do not mess with ANYTHING on. Dial in a tone you dig and leave it be, don't move location, knobs, anything other then turning distortion on 'n off. Then play the dif. guitars you have (some anyway) and see what the differences are. Like a modern V vs and older V, or LP models against each other, or something like that. Sounds fun and something you could get a LOT of mileage on i.e. "Showdown Saturdays" etc.
They really should have used the Pat Martini style headstock on these. In fact I'd say they should use that headstock more often because it's really cool and has straight string pull
I love me some traditional Gibsons. But they really need to do something different. This is fairly different. But not really much of a departure. The whole ten different levels of the same designs has gotten really old. How many different ways can we make a Les Paul?
I like this model & remember their release. This axe needs an Explorer headstock, at least as an option. Of course they are out of production so the point is moot unless your ordered through the Custom Shop
I love this finish but to me coral doesn't come to mind at all. It screams peach to me. If they left the back brown they could call it Peach Cobbler Metallic
I would love to see this model constructed like a traditional fancy archtop: solid carved flamed maple top and back, in natural, 3 piece flamed neck, double F holes. But I know that never gonna happen.
That’s a good-sounding guitar! I’m very familiar with 57 Classic pickups as I’ve got a pair in an SG Supreme. These sound like they’ve got a little more bite than mine. I like it! I’m not crazy about the Modern Doublecut shape though; it’s not awful, just kind of nondescript. The Pink Pearl with the black binding looks pretty cool though.
Gibson needs to stop messing around and put out these in different colors with independent coil splitting. Then make versions with jumbo frets, P90 versions, Floyd and Wilkinson versions & all with locking tuners. Models with the cut-hole & without. Make a “Tele” pickup configuration version & a triple single coil version. With & without the cut-hole. Put them in the hands of a few top RUclipsrs & Tik Tok personalities. Create a few Epiphone versions & watch them fly. Oh & hire a handful of real quality control employees… You’re welcome Gibson.
I appreciate what Gibson is trying to do, bringing innovation back to a flooded les paul market. While I can't say I'm a big fan of the sound...it's a bit thin, it goes to show how 57c's can sound wildly different from model to model.
That doofy straight pull headstock would have been the right fit for these guitars. I kinda like them- the solid bodies, not the semi hollow. Should have put the toggle on the upper horn though…
I like two volumes. One reason is to do stutters or use it as a killswitch. But I’m biased as my preference is the toggle in that location on many guitars. Even ones that don’t have them traditionally in that location. I have a The Hawk that I modded by putting the switch there and put a second volume where it used to be. A firebird type mini (came from a a 90s SG Deluxe with the Bigsby) and a 500T bridge pickup. Treble bleed on the neck, Grover 18:1 tuners, Schaller straplocks, and Schaller 456 bridge. I think that’s everything I did.
One of the most sought after Hot Wheels of all time is a Pink Beach Bomb VW bus. As a result...pink...or coral colored castings have an allure. I love this guitar. Id rock that like it was an all black death metal Kramer or Schecter. That glow should not be understated. It would look fantastic on my wall....lol
Wait ... that's a custom shop ???? If that's the amount of pride the custom shop has in their stuff, what chance has anyone got of getting a decent standard or other non custom guitar ? What a joke gibson has become.
Agree, they get away with it just because they’re Gibson, but a Patrick Eggle or a PRS at that price point would be absolutely flawless, you only have to watch the PRS factory videos to know that if one of their guitars did have tooling marks or binding/paint edges like that it would never leave the factory
I actually really like the shape but I'm the guy who really enjoys this channel and the history but has never been blown away by single cuts 😅. I think I may have to add this into my watch list. Would go great next to my Firebird V and SG.
It’s different I prefer the original double cut and if they had more colors like a nice burst and didn’t cost as much yes 2500 would be a better price. I do like the head stock cut would like to see it on other models.
This is the first I'm seeing of this model, and in pink.. just ugly!!... Then... IDK, by the end here I'm loving it, and the color!! ... And my favorite pickups stock?! Oh yeah, I like it!!
Paintwork looks like there are cracks in it especially at the 'F' / eyebrow hole. I saw what looked like some more crack, like marks on this guitar. It may be a trick of the light. I'm not impressed with the finish.
This guitar really has its own sound, very cool. I never understood why PRS people thought this was a copy of a custom 24, neither cutaway is like a PRS cut. Now what about the PRS being a copy of LP double cuts 👀
Paul Reed Smith has always said his design came from outlining a strat and a Les Paul on a sheet of paper and making something in between. It’s no secret it borrows design from both.
@@CosmicHippopotamus how about the S2 carve taken from the Norlin era, or some of the electronics ideas he copied, or the fact the Tremonti was based on Mark’s favorite LP…
I freakin love the modern double-cut…if it just wasn’t so dang expensive 😢
What about a n225? Don’t see many and different take on modern double cut
I LOVE that Double cut shape, I wish they were still making them
I actually like them ..they should of used the explorer type headstock
call it the Theodore hollow
Jesus, that colour gives me flashbacks of tiles in public bathrooms were like haha there is NO WAY i could own anything that colour haha
@@cataclysmicconverter lmaoo I pitty you my friend, my first bachelor apartment back in the early 90's was that color too haha
These would look so much better with either a snake head or a Mark series headstock, the standard headstock just doesn't balance visually
I thought it could pull off an explorer headstock while playing it haha If they did Snake/Mark - it would just be a PRS at that point haha
@@Trog yes, but Gibson had the headstock FIRST 🙂
I liked it, it’s light. It has good pick ups, pearlescent colors are awesome and it has a volute ( I’m with you Trogly on the whole volute thing)
With the finish flaws...excess glue.... , i couldnt justify the price.
I like the tones of semi hollows and agree with that black binding "pops" against the pink but for a custom shop and for the price I can't understand those tooling marks on the fretboard & between the nibs.. anyway good video nice touch with the delay effect..
I can't unsee the upside down face that's formed by the knobs, bridge and eyebrow hole as the mouth.
The pearl really jumps out at you! I’m not big into pinkish guitars but this has a beautiful finish!🎉
I agree!
I liked the smilley face when you opened it up.

4:52 what's with the crack or scratch or hair under the pickup area??? Camera picking up something that's not really there or what?
There is finish checking all over the front of this guitar and edges. Gibson's metallic finishes are very prone to checks since they use nitro
@@Trog I figured as much but then I looked up when this guitar came out and it finish checks that hard within 6-7 years? It's not relic'd right?

I've got a Tak matsumoto epiphone, ebony board, Gibson pickups! Very nice! Thanks
The Tak Matsumoto is much better-looking than this doublecut, I think.
It looks like where Wolf got his idea for the SA-126!!💡
I really like the black binding with the pastel colors! That being said, these things were way too expensive - even after being heavily discounted. Gibson ought to take notes from Fender and the Meteora when it comes to releasing new shapes
I agree. Those things were way overpriced.
I like the color shift finish, but can't unsee the dorky smiley face...5:14
I found a large ding playing the guitar! ✌️🤪👍

Good evening RONDO BONDO. Best comment on the internet.
Woah! I didn’t even know these existed, they look awesome! Although I don’t like just one volume and tone, I def prefer the usual 4 controls.
I could see that screaming Uncle Ted... nice guitar. Thanks Austin.

That's pretty much exactly what I do for every guitar besides dialing in the distortion on my pedal just a little bit differently (if needed)
They really should have used the Pat Martini style headstock on these. In fact I'd say they should use that headstock more often because it's really cool and has straight string pull
I think it's more like a Rickenbacker than a PRS....none of the colors wow me.
@TheTroglyGuitarShow_1 am I in trouble
I like it! Higher end models could compete with PRS too!
I love me some traditional Gibsons. But they really need to do something different. This is fairly different. But not really much of a departure. The whole ten different levels of the same designs has gotten really old. How many different ways can we make a Les Paul?

Why does it sound so cheap for being a Gibson, though?
I let a silver burst custom slip through my fingers a few years back. Bought a vintage instead. Still kicking myself over that.
The eyebrow sound whole is a reverse of the Rickenbacker one, just an observation
That's called pearlescent in the paint not so much metallic, not saying there's not metallic in there but that's why the paint is called pearl
I'm on a cheap phone but always sounds terrible until effects come on then it sings
Reminds me of the patrick eggle new wave guitars, nice if not a bit odd looking things.
Great vid as ever sir
I agree they are probably overpriced but man I really like that look. I wasnt sure about the color at first but man I really like it now.
Reminds me a lot to a Rickenbacker.
I agree, was going to comment the same. Both the back routed chambering, cats eye sound hole and cutaway is very Rickenbacker. Cool guitar.
It seems very Rickenbacker ish in its body contour, and it sounds quite jangly too.
I want a modern double cut custom so bad!
I love this finish but to me coral doesn't come to mind at all. It screams peach to me. If they left the back brown they could call it Peach Cobbler Metallic
I like this one over the blue for once ! It's a subtle pink and not too loud
I totally dig this body shape!
Gibson should really bring that color back. It would look great on an SG or a Special OR a standard with a natural back and the black binding.
Looks like the Washburn that Derek Trucks played earlier on .
i always dig the modern double cut way from Gibson. i wish they make it in 2023.
