Thank you for making this video. I’m a mom of an ASD1 MT son. He’s a fantastic performer, but also loves all the aspects of building a set, light design, rigging, sound… on and on. Your story brings me so much joy bc although he is trying to get into drama school, he also just wants to be involved somehow - and of course get paid. This video is like a balm to my mom heart who wants my kid to follow his passions and also survive. You’re proof that if you stay open and honest with your self and your work, everything will turn out fine. Congratulations on everything 🎉❤
Would love to see a video explaining the variety of jobs there are throughout theater (plus various typical entry level positions) and the different levels of theater / how to get involved :)
Damn…love your channel. (Will ALWAYS appreciate a good edit…you nail it). My husband and I have a nephew going into the business and we’ve directed him to your channel. Congrats on ALL you’ve done.
This was so interesting, thank you! If you haven't already, I would be very interested to hear you break down what a director actually does and how to see their work in a show. I've seen a lot of threatre and it's easy to see cool dancing and praise the choreography or hear beautiful music and praise the composer, but I still don't always know when I'm seeing specifically the director's work. I know they are the umbrella over all of those things and I just don't know where that line is if that makes sense.
aspiring stage manager/techie/producer here! i love your videos & they’ve helped me feel so connected to the community i long to be a part of. you touched on this but im wondering if you could more tips on how to build connections in the industry & how to know when they’re ones that are valid to follow up on. i struggle with feeling like people i deem “cooler” than me (have bigger resumes) won’t remember me being in the room. also struggle with knowing when to speak up and when im taking up too much space. do you have any tips on ways to combat those feelings and better develop connections? thanks!
Yes! What's your social media presence like? I started really leaning in to social media because I missed theatre during the panini. But the unexpected upside has been people getting a sense of who *I* am--so there's a shortcut for them to know whether our vibes match. If you can, whether it's showing your face (!! a stage manager?! being front facing?!?!?! I actually follow a few--Michelle the SM, Cherie B Tay) OR posting interesting content about the industry and your POV even without your face, start sharing your interests/passion/perspective. That's your calling card--especially before the resume looks super fancy. In terms of following up: honestly, social media is valuable here too. Do they have a presence? What's the vibe? If an SM doesn't get back to you or GM doesn't get back to you, who are the ASMs or even PAs who frequently work with them? Can you take *them* to coffee?
Hi! I am so passionate about broadway, and I want to work in the industry so bad. I was wondering if you could do a deep dive video into all of the behind the scenes jobs (like marketing, production, etc.) just covering some for information about them? I feel like its so hard to figure out how to even get started, and your videos are so helpful and informative!
Amazing and very informative career story ❤. My daughter is a senior in a NYC university, that has a good theater/arts reputation. Getting her degree in Directing plus movie/television. As there is no ‘job fairs’ for such majors, and she has the advantage of being in NYC dreaming of working on Broadway, what should be her activities outside of class to have some sort of job upon graduation in May 2025?
Learning everything she can! RUclips videos, seeing shows and films (which I'm sure she's already doing), and then when she has the capacity (senior year can be wild, so if it's not now, it's okay) looking into internships and fellowships to get a sense of one industry. There is no such thing as the 'right choice'--especially for us multi-hyphenates. Try something, then pivot if it isn't right. She's gonna do great :)
@@itskatharinequinn Can you be more specific as to 'where to find internships and fellowships? Where are they posted? Is there a clearning house for such items? The first place we all look is her college/university, but nothing in the arts/theater/tv or movies--accounting, yes, directing--no. (I was in IT sales for oil&gas and if I asked a customer for who else to talk to about our sollution, his information had no value if he just listed off companies with no particular contact--you can't just call the receptionist at a firm). Who would she contact for an internship/fellowship in directing/tv/movies in NYC?🤔
You and me both. I'm so glad I did because it afforded parts of my trajectory that wouldn't have happened otherwise, but it's been crazy making "paying my dues" well into my 30s after 15 years of professional experience.

Love the "say yes!" part, but hate that so much is still "pay to play."
