you perfectly nailed the vibe description for this EP - it truly captures the essence of 90's/2000's POP/RnB sound and vocal style. I was not a fan of this sound and style back in the day, but now i feel kinda nostalgic to it. We have seen many attempts to recreate the 70s 80s style in the recent decade. Do you think a new wave is coming where musicians will try to simulate this kind of sound style? Great find btw, thanks!
I thought it presented some good character development (though some of the opportunity for it wasn't capitalized on). It had a real succulent flavour to it. Not to mention his new telekinetic powers will no doubt lead to some nice fight scenes during the upcoming fader arc. Overall I'm feeling a light to decent 7.
Thanks for turning us on to this, Fanthony. It really is an incredible album holy shit. I got care much for modern pop but this album is just a blast and sticks with you. And it's like you said, it's not vapid bullshit. The lyrics are great!
This. This. This is what made me have hope for pop music. I generally don't like pop music but this is such a well-produced, well thought out, amazing album that it's hard not to love it. If anything, the fact that it's a mini-album/EP is almost like a sample of what's to come and I'm HERE 👏 FOR 👏 IT 👏

tl;dr Anthony Fantano ranks albums from 0 to 100 and has been deceiving us Hi everyone. I am writing to you today after seeing Anthony's recent stats video. Through careful research, I have formulated a theory that we, as music consumers, have been deceived into believing Anthony ranks his albums out of 10, when, in fact, every new album is ranked out of 100. Allow me to explain. First, for simplicity and fairness, I'm excluding his "CLASSIC" reviews, as those albums, like EPs and singles, aren't held to the same scoring standards of a contemporary LP release. Quickie reviews fall under this same category. As we all of course know, any number score (excluding 0 and 10) can be "light", "decent", or "strong." This should give (3x9) + 2 = 29 possible scores. However, his method goes further- records can be "light to decent," "decent to strong," or "strong (N) to light (N+1)." Because of this, we add an additional (3x9 +1) (including "0 to light 1") = 28 possible additional scores in-between, or 57 scores total. Which would be the stopping point, except he goes one step further- the number that pops up on the screen is one of the two values he gives (i.e., a decent to strong 7 will either say "Decent 7" or "Strong 7" when the visuals come up). So there are in fact 2x((3x9) + 1) = 56 possible in-between values, for a total of 29 + 56 = 85 values. BUT IT GOES ONE STEP FURTHER. Because we can count up all of his non-numeric and semi-numeric scores: b.o.b album, BREAD, burp, BUTTSECKS, Deerhoof won, MYSCOREWHENTHEPU$$YISTOOGOOD, Strong NO, NOT GOOD, opinion, PGOODMAYBEA7, 6(66), uhhhhhhh, xx (with a discussion of posthumous copyright law), eating a balanced vegan meal over a Limp Bizkit album, him and Cal vomiting together, and whitegirlturnupmusic, for a total of 16 non-numeric options. Which means, yes, that there are, as of today, 85 + 16 = 101 possible scores, or a unique score for every numerical value from 0 to 100. So, to Mr. Fantano, I ask as a member of the concerned public, if this was always your intention. If, by conflating your opinions into just 10 categories on the surface, you hoped to appear more relatable to the casual music listener and viewer, while your true intentions hid in plain sight. Did you want a vigilant few to feel a sense of fulfillment from cracking the code of your deception? Does eating a balanced vegan meal rank higher than a light to decent 4 with a light 4 on the screen? I look forward to this community's thoughts on this pressing issue.
Thank you Anthony for the review. Been loving the hell out of this project. Definitely a slept on artist making fantastic electropop. The crisp and clean instrumentation from Clarence Clarity drives home the overall aesthetic that Rina is presenting. After watching her mini interview for the channel i-D I was excited. Listened to Tunnel Vision and Cyber Stockholm Syndrome then only wanted to listen to more. In the past 2 weeks I haven't put down this ep.
Been spinning this for days giving my neighbours a much-needed dose of pop music. Don’t forget that it’s in fact Rina doing all the alt-rock/j-rock inspired guitarwork!
Listened before watching the review then came back to watch it... amazing. I thought I heard some clarence clarity vibes and it blew my mind that I was right 😂 EP IS GREAT I’d give this review a light 10 to a strong 10
really nice record. especially love the second track, it sounds like something from late 90's backstreet boys or britney spears. Also nice with a newer pop record that doesn't try to "strip down" the instrumental so much.
rina sawayama has always been a maximalist pop queen. that’s what’s makes her stand out nowadays. her alt sound combined with classic influences make her such a great artist.
I want to thank you Anthony for exposing me to so many artists that I wouldn’t normally listen to! This is one of my favorite albums i’ve heard this year
He didn't do a 5 minute segment about whites being the superior race he just said that blacks and mexicans should go back to africa and mexico stop trying to slander anthony ffs
Thank you for reviewing this - this is some of the best pop music I've heard in years and I checked it out based on this review. I'm actually frustrated more pop music doesn't sound like this.

The "Cal steals the yellow flannel" arc was okay. It really needed some more time to develop. Though it's hard to top the "Cal's dead" arc.

“Cal’s dead” arc was god-tier
the whole “cal’s dead” arc was super well done, up there with the “cal goes through the five stages of grief after the powers that b gets a 9” arc
