Welcome to the channel :D I miss Monterey, have to go there again some time. Loved the cool fresh weather besides the fishing too haha c: thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoy the fishing content 🎣
Hi Mark, I’ve actually already been to coast guard pier! Been there a couple times actually, it’s definitely a lot better for fishing :D the kelp does get crazy there though but next time I head over ima try using weedless setups to punch through that kelp. Thanks for watching 👌🎣
It depends on the season, but locals have mentioned that you can catch halibut from time to time, and when the season is right, some anglers have caught king salmon, stripers, and sea bass. My best recommendation is to check with locals if you plan to visit, most of them are more than happy to help :D one local told me that a few months ago, some of the beaches were swarming with stripers and it was impossible to not catch one every cast :o
@@zaidbenitez8721 sounds good, I think you’ll have better luck trying for Cali halibut more in SoCal, the waters are really cold atm in central. I’m not the greatest person to ask about for Cali halibut, I recommend checking out another YTer named Benjie Kim Fishing, he has a lot of good halibut videos and resources, I’m sure he’d be more than happy to help you out with generalized locations :D just let him know I sent him your way from my channel c: wish you the best of luck, tight lines brother 🎣
Fished there so many times in late sixties and seventies. Nighttime squid and anchovy runs were spectacular. We would fish the end of the wharf mostly even past the signs looking at coast guard pier. Tom cod, jack smelt, rubberlip perch, halibut. Sometimes a ling cod. Caught a large wolf head eel . Bait shop was closer to beach and they served food etc. What a life.
Sounds like an awesome time to fish :D I know it’s not like that anymore but I always love to hear stories of how it used to be. I would love to go night time squid fishing, I’m just not sure where to do that if it’s still around by shore haha, would be super fun though if I can take the Mrs. with me to a pier for that! Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing 1976DannyG c:👌🎣
Yeah I know what you mean haha, I recently just learned that these baitfish are actually filter feeders so they only really eat phyto and zooplankton by sieving the water. To get them you gotta snag them or use a casting net I think, but I’m not sure what the legislation is for that :o Update: I recently learned that they hit also sabiki rigs so that’s another possible way to catch them c:
sweet.. if you want to reel up some live anchovies, a size 10 or 12 sabiki works great, it will snag them or hook them in the mouth either one. hook one on alive and toss it back out, you can fry them too
Shoutout from Humboldt county
Thanks for tuning in, always neat to learn where my viewers are from, how’s the fishing in Humboldt county? :D

New sub here from Oregon. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for stopping by :D glad you enjoyed! If you ever get a chance to visit Monterey, I highly recommend it!
Use to fish there back in the early 60’s also crabbing the fishing was much better back before the otters ran the fish off
Fishing must have been amazing back then, I like to hear stories of nice catches people used to get regularly, awesome stuff!
Next time try the coast guard pier, make sure to bring braided line though at least 25lb to get out of the kelp.

What type of game fish can find there?
