But with passthrough mapped to the button, it makes playing for longer periods easier (I can easily find my Doritos packet :).
Important question. Does the software based IPD adjustment actually work just like a real IPD adjustment physical slider? My ipd is 68mm which is on the wide side, so I need to know for certain if the software ipd adjustment will really adjust for me, or else I may feel sick, or won't see the full clarity and resolution of the oculus rift s, which is seriously important. This only factor is what's keeping me from pre ordering one, because if my eyes cannot handle the fixed lens adjustment(I think it's 62mm), I won't enjoy using it and won't be fully immersed. Update: Valve Index preorders have been pushed back now to shipping August 31st. I couldn't bear to wait even longer so I just preordered the Rift s on Best Buy. I cannot wait! I will give my personal feedback on whether the software ipd adjustment works or not asap when it comes out.
@@TJRSIM I already know my ipd, my question is if the software ipd adjustment is just as reliable as a physical ipd adjustment. Unfortunately he didn't adress this on his video. :/

Looking through the OGO everything is in clear up to the point 72 and slightly beyond through the lenses, beyond that it starts to blur.. It goes well inwards but to what point I don't know I think the lenses might be ok so the digital adjustment will widen the field so I think it will be fine.. The OGO is quite playable but I do notice its not guite right on the vision..

Bought it mainly for Sim Racing
Really? How hard is it to plug in some earbuds, I would MUCH rather earbuds or some headphones instead of the infront of ear. Althought i never experienced VR, i have been told the old rift headphones killed the immersion due to have some sound leak from the outside world
Thanks, I was wanting to get a rift s and saw "display port" and my thought was "what do you mean by display port, there have been several display ports" the ones off the top of my head being the VGA and HDMI. When I first installed my graphics card I didn't realize that that odd port that wasn't an HDMI was literally just called a display port, but when you showed the connectors I thought "wait a moment, I recognize that shape, it's that odd port that I didn't have a name for yet!"
I got an oculus rift S for Christmas but since the 2nd port of my laptop was broken I wouldn’t be able to use it, and my mom already bought an oculus rift headset and hand controller stand and a case for it. So we returned it and bought a PS4 VR. But the problem is that most of the games I really wanted to buy on the oculus are not on PSVR. I was so angry and sad at the same time but still thankful I got something.
My oculus rift is sick but I play sometimes and my quest 2 I use it slot and I decide to play quest 2 with the link cable to play in pc and is like the rift s
Can use rift s work with rhe usb-c 3.1 gen 2 for laptop with no displayport or mini displayport or are there other way to make it work #preordered all ready
We don't really know yet, but it is likely you will be able to use a displayport to HDMI adapter to make it work. Not so sure about the usb-c tho... If it's not thunderbolt, I don't think it would work...? But then again there's Virtuallink. So mabye if you're running an RTX grapichs card and use a displayport + usb to Virtuallink it might work plugging it in to the usb-c port.
@@MegaLPlover probably cost alot, to make the price competitive vs the Quest. I really dont think the 80Hz wont be much different. Might actually be good as my rig can run it hopefully better. Lol

I'm really jealous since my parents can't afford the rift S. I can't try VR so I go to a VR arcade when I scrape up enough money :'( but I'm happy you got it!
If you need some help getting a VR headset, then maybe for your birthday ask for money from your relatives and friends, save it up and get a headset. Or if you are old enough then maybe get a job and save up that way.
The lack of a physical ipd adjustment is no good for me. i made the mistake of buying a Windows headset without a physical ipd adjustment and regretted it immediately.
That's why i kept my Oculus Rift because i know the S will not sell good. Getting rid of the IPD was the most worse thing they could do. But as we all know, it's about the money for them, so what they are focussing on are the people with a phone, not a pc anymore. But the S is not for a phone so why those changes on the S. Glad i have a Rift and not a S. If these changes were on Oculus Go i would understand but it's a headset for a PC... Just make no sense at all. The S has no new features, it's just a downgrade for PC users. They never should get rid of some things. But they think they do good with this choice so let's see. I think many people will be not very happy with the S. What was wrong with the sensors..... nothing... The Rift and the S has a cable so 2 or 3 more cables for the sensors not make a big difference. No sensors is only good for a headset that is wireless. What are they doing with their heads in the mud xD It's kinda discrimination to left out people with a lens spacing lower then 62 and higher then 67. So watch out peeps. The halo design is just crap, when u move to much it's getting loose. The S is just a crappy design. I also have no issues with my original Rift so why pay more for less. It just make no sense for PC users. Conclusion: Oculus S sucks. That's what the S stands for imo Have fun guys :)......

Finally! Yay but the rest of us have to wait e weeks tho :(
I have loads of info lined up for you to make it easier []-)
That’s actually good for me bc it comes out my last week of school so I won’t have any homework😂
@@VirtualRealityOasis This is great to hear, Mike! I already preordered mine and a couple weeks ago built a new pc with a friend. So happy to hear you like it!
Sentientburrito o lucky!!
@@VirtualRealityOasis that'll calm the hype shakes!
This is gonna by my first VR headset so no matter what i know i'm gonna love it and be blown away. Yes it doesn't come close to something like the valve index but like i said, as my first VR headset and getting to experience proper VR and not one of those samsung phone VR, it's gonna be a whole new discovery for me can't wait! Bought it mainly for Sim Racing
Hey I just ordered this, arriving this week. How do you feel with it so far?
Thanks for the video! Just bought one of these, so this was really helpful.
Who else is watching this now because they just bought their VR headset and is waiting for it?
did you need a FACEbook acc?
@@matelis8161 yeah but that’s the only issue with oculus but even that’s not much of an issue
@@gravy7944 do you need a good computer to play
@@akselbork5960 you couldn’t do it on like a random work computer but if your considering getting a VR headset you should look at the quest 2!
@@gravy7944 thank you so much
I got my Rift S in the mail and it should be delievered tomorrow. Very hyped!
That onboard sound is a deal breaker for me. I dont want to be fiddling around with external headphones. I want proper onboard sound like the CV1.
Oh wait, it's the one covered with the black thing protector right? Y think i actually have it, i didn't knew the name too, i will check it out
yes, that is a displayport connector. Just called DisplayPort
this was so useful to me because i just got an oculus rift s for christmas today
Just ordered one of these, super excited.
Can you please try hdmi to DisplayPort adapars? I need to now before I pre order.
DAAN DAAN just contact their support and ask, they might know
@@jackscarpa4807 I did but they also don't know.
I think it could work without any problem if your adapter is HDMI 2.0
I also need to know this. Would be great if someone could test it as Id like to pre order as well.
@@arniebmx i also need to know this. as the customer care is not able to help at all! please @Virtual reality oasis ! try this out for usss
Never heard of the oculus quest??
Please make more rift s content
Pretty awesome video, very informational before I'll look into VR finally.
My oculus rift is sick but I play sometimes and my quest 2 I use it slot and I decide to play quest 2 with the link cable to play in pc and is like the rift s
I was gonna quest but my pc appears to meet the requirements
Do you have a regular rift already?
Jack Freeman no I have never owned a vr headset in my life
For me it's the exact same. And now I don't know what to buy.
blackflowy ! Yes same brother
blackflowy ! I’m most likely buying the s now
I work in a VR softwares company and you look just like one of my co-workers haha
Anybody ever tell you you look just like Tupac?
First time actually, took that selfie a few days ago, thx tho
if i had seen this a week ago i would have used your link. your reviews helped me make a decision for my first vr headset. and oculus rift s
Omg I can't wait to get this vr headset 😁 I'm saving up but I'm not going to get it quickly tho...
The wiring is such a pain
I cant even use mine because of it.
youll be lucky if u had a gaming laptop, cuz u can just put the laptop in ur backpack, and no wires lmfao
got one yesterday, so far, so good. buildin sound is enough for casual gaming
Hope so or else oculus is whack! I sold my oculus rift already to get this!
I think i'll stick with the cv1 and buy the quest. This looks like an amazing way to get into vr, but not enough of an upgrade to switch out the cv1.
I myself never considered this as a full successor. More like a half step
I completely agree. Wonderful for newcomers, but not a rift 2. I like to think of it as the difference between the PS4 and the PS4 Pro.
Not to mention 80hz lcd, what were they thinking
@@cmonster4926 exactly why its called "S" and not CV2
@@MegaLPlover probably cost alot, to make the price competitive vs the Quest. I really dont think the 80Hz wont be much different. Might actually be good as my rig can run it hopefully better. Lol
At 7:30 a solution I thought of is to use earbuds, but those still have limited uses
I applied to best buy for a job and now I can't wait to get the store discount even if that's not the only reason I applied

Thanks for the great video, straight forward, very informative and no fluff. Honestly first video ever seen of yourself and was quite happy :) this actually helped me decide to buy it!
I'm really jealous since my parents can't afford the rift S. I can't try VR so I go to a VR arcade when I scrape up enough money :'(
but I'm happy you got it!
You could always get the quest, if you don’t have a good pc that is.
iononionunion
Or the go even
I'm 62 yo and can't afford it. So don't feel too bad.
If you need some help getting a VR headset, then maybe for your birthday ask for money from your relatives and friends, save it up and get a headset. Or if you are old enough then maybe get a job and save up that way.
Save those pennies, it'll be all the more enjoyable when you finally get it. Get an evening or weekend job. That's what I did when I was a kid.
What are they doing with their heads in the mud xD
It's kinda discrimination to left out people with a lens spacing lower then 62 and higher then 67. So watch out peeps.
The halo design is just crap, when u move to much it's getting loose. The S is just a crappy design.
I also have no issues with my original Rift so why pay more for less. It just make no sense for PC users.
Conclusion: Oculus S sucks. That's what the S stands for imo
Have fun guys :)......

Edit: I think that games go on sale on Black friday tho
M1A1 Abrams 3rd Generation MBT like 50 ofd

Do you need a good computer to play
ya, its mostly for good gaming pcs with vr ready graphic cards. i would suggest a quest 2. its made by the same company. it is wireless and can easily be set up with a phone. the rift s recently got discontinued. the quest 2 is 299 USD and can be bought on oculus.com
@@McKennaShermsPussy thanks
i think now its a choice between Oculus (cheap good VR) and Valve (expensive but high specs)
Exactly. I'm inclined towards the Index.
I would love the Index (and can afford it) but I'm also a cheap ass and will be going for the Rift S for my first PC VR headset.
@@Turbotef i'd have to upgrade my graphics card to a 2080 or something lol so im getting rift s. i hope they might add finger tracking through computer vision
i just bought mine last weekend and is coming tomorrow! so excited!
So, the Rift S is an actual improvement and the shit it got at reveal is all behind us?
Marhathor noo
Probably because the index was revealed to be 2.5x the price of the Rift S. The fact that you can buy a rig and a Rift S for the price of Index is a pretty big statement.
Well, I'm not taking the Index into consideration here. It's Rift S vs Rift.
I don't know why I am watching this when I can't even afford a VR headset 😭

Virtual Reality Oasis Thank you! I have a question though. I have a hp pavilion laptop with intel i7 and a 1050ti. Do you think I should go quest or rift s due to my belief that rift s won’t run much better than the quest due to the 1050ti.
