I've got one of you haven't tried it yet I'd say it's well worth it theirs a lot of games coming out that look fantastic and it's convinced me to buy a top of the line pc specifically for vr and a valve index headset. That's how much I enjoyed vr. I wouldn't recommend robo recall it's not very good and lacks challenge superhot is awesome truly great fun
It is so weird, 4 years ago was the quest 1, 1.4 years later was the quest 2, two years later was the quest pro and now, one year later after the quest pro came the quest 3. It is incredible to see how far we went in just 4 years in VR

Jeremex : the quest is a good headset but your not gonna be able. To play high graphics games on it like project cars 2, elite dangerous and no mans sky.
I bought a refurb quest 1 from oculus official around time #2 just came out. It seemed like 1 & 2 are very similar; besides 2 being lighter n nicer to wear. So i bought mine 4; 150.00usd vs the new oculus 2 that sold for 300 to 400 usd, upon release. Oculus advertised specs led me to believe that at least a few full length, feature games came free with purchase of the VR unit, ie: "VADER". This turned out not to be the case, in fact the few included titles were sub-standard in relation to their other games. Beat saber is probably the oculus feature included game and as a pro drummer and amateur gamer; I found it un-entertaining, having 0 purpose to learning or playing beats/rhythm. That fact coupled with my refusal to use banks/credit&debit cards which are needed to buy/play games on any oculus platform led to my oculus gathering dust for 3 yrs. Also the facebook accnt requirement is bogus. I still plan to buy some titles like vader; bc I truly think that the pay titles will get my attn. But if not ill sell it or give it away. In those yrs it sat; I have had a great time playing my very Affordable, retro game systems from China. One is a "MYMIQEY" Pandora's box 3d and the other is Kinhank x-console pro. And if I had a social life, I can picture how unwanted vr would be VS. Playing the retro game emulators an entire room can see, play and watch as both those retro sys. allow up to 4 players if you get 2 more controllers...all plug and play too.
Ah the video that got me into vr I bought a quest 1, then quest 2, and now I got a index with full body tracking. Thank you Mike for getting me into vr.
this oculus is amazing, not only for the headset but also the controllers, your thumb position is detected without pressing a button, I've never signaled ok and shot somebody using my finger and thumb with a VR set before, the range of hand gestures is stunning
I swear, looking back oculus was so bright, but like with most things it’s gotten muddy along the way. Still somehow continued to keep growing stronger dispite that. I hope for another year of vr in the future and farther. This tech truly has grown not only to an interest, but a something I came to inspire toward and adore. Thanks to the most unlikely of people. And it all started here. Thank you, for showing it off way back when
I like re-watching this video because the quest 1 gave me the best gaming memories i have ever even imagined. I had a whole VR friend group and we all played everyday. Still miss them. I watched this before i got a quest for christmas and there was an un-recreatable experience when i got one and when i furst played. I was obsessed with vr since the release of the htc vive but i needed a pc and it was expensive (i was around 8). So when i finally got a vr after obsessing over them for a little over 4 years it was a level of excitment i will never reach twice 😂. I still have my quest 1, and recently got a quest 2 about a year after that released. I owe the quest 1 a great deal of gratitude for the memories that will never be replacable. Now no one cares for the quest 1. But you gotta remember the roots 😂

well vr is growing perfectly fine.... but if nothing else apple will get into ar at some point.... and tracked monitors will be really trendy and popular at that point

I've just fiending for more Oculus quest content. I have a windows mixed reality set up but I've been looking for something more portable. Missed opportunity to not have a PC tether optional in order to have boosted performance when around your pc....
Oculus went for the "console for VR" brand model, not the enthusiast "PC gamer" model, and I kind of agree. Gamers are great, but there aren't a ton who are super-hardcore. Consoles though? Everywhere. They want that for VR. The Quest may just end up being the first step. They weren't worried about super-hardcore players here. That would be more the Rift S, which comes out the same day.
@@sundaynightdrunk it doesnt even hit the console part. Psvr looks a lot better and plays a lot more and larger games. Its just an expensive mobile vr set. Not worth it untill they can play propper games.

@@HereticDuo Yeah but think about it: you need a PS4 that not everyone has; you need a wired headset that isn't cheap ($350 with camera and controllers). Quest is standalone with no wires and multi-room tracking for $400. You can take it to a party and take just that and a $35 chromecast and have Beat Saber fun. You can demo it to friends with nothing else. It's a different animal to PSVR.
@@HereticDuo lmao exactly. Creed looks like a gameboy game on that SD835 and it's an arcade type game. If they even had a SD845 you could have a Native wireless tether to a PC. Oculus really dropped the ball. Good idea but bad execution, only the suckers will fall for it. This headset will only be worth buying if vridge or alvr gets support which it probably will but who knows what the latency would be like.

The pass through mode... Is that really the best it looks? Odd choice. Wish they had some highdef cams. They missed the opportunity for augmented reality. As a man that sits at a PC for work 8 hours a day, I've been extremely interested in the work possibilities of these devices. I want to put it on, see my work office, and use the rift for multiple virtual monitors and work widgets floating around me, change my environment to something pretty exc.
If they used hidef cameras, it would cost more, plus those are depth cameras that track the controllers because they can see how far or close they are and. High-def cameras would see more colors and confuse the light in the controler.
@@heeff I was, the 2 is coming out soonish with a price tag of 3k. Also they are only selling them to corporations. While the business application for the rift could be sweet. I would still like to see it in the rift to. Just to go into my gaming room and slip it on. Brows the web, then seamlessly hop into a game. While I'm playing I get a call from work. I exit the game and bring up a few virtual desktops and do my work in the rift. Just one mans dream of the future. But I understand the price issue as well. I think I've heard the index may be doing full color pass through but as expected, at a higher price tag.
I remember coming back from a Holiday a few years back to see this video on my reccomended after watching DanTDMs VR videos and I am truely grateful to you otherwise I would have never got into VR. This headset has served me well from moblie VR till I got a PC for PCVR and I am glad to announe I am upgrading to a Quest 2 for PCVR because of you! Was tiptoe on the fence on getting the Quest, but the real kicker was knowing you can connect the Quest to your gaming pc to up the graphical experience if you so choose with the Oculus Link. Getting this sometime before Christmas this year.

Just had my 128gb Quest delivered and waiting for my wife to come in to open it in front of her, I got the 128gb version as I'll be downloading 360 videos from my insta 360 one X to view. I'm 60 so it goes to show its not just kids interested in VR, I've been using my Samsung Gear VR so I'm used to 3 dof, but this is amazing, my son bought one and showed it me over the weekend. my wife was blown away by the immersion and she said we have to have this and she's 61! Great tips by the way and it came with free Star Wars games.

Joshua Morgan best thing to do is call Best Buy see if they have on in warehouse. I literally sat on Best Buy website all night refreshing couldn’t get one. I called Best Buy the next morning I bought it over the phone. I’ll have mine on Wednesday.
I might actually get the 64gb model now. I'll still be able to have a good amount of games on it. Besides, I need to get other stuff like a carrying case, and that extra $100 would come in handy.

@@gumzster Nope, no SD slot. You can stream from a local server, though. I'd consider that with files that big, because even 128 isn't going to help you much.
@@gumzster No. They're working on adding USB storage soon, though. If you're just watching these at home, I'd recommend keeping them on a computer and streaming them to your headset via Bigscreen.

Personally I think VR won’t be as big as AR will end up being. AR is much more appealing to consumers, as it doesn’t completely block reality.

Right when I was getting into vr
I've just fiending for more Oculus quest content. I have a windows mixed reality set up but I've been looking for something more portable. Missed opportunity to not have a PC tether optional in order to have boosted performance when around your pc....
Oculus went for the "console for VR" brand model, not the enthusiast "PC gamer" model, and I kind of agree. Gamers are great, but there aren't a ton who are super-hardcore. Consoles though? Everywhere. They want that for VR. The Quest may just end up being the first step. They weren't worried about super-hardcore players here. That would be more the Rift S, which comes out the same day.
@@sundaynightdrunk it doesnt even hit the console part. Psvr looks a lot better and plays a lot more and larger games.
Its just an expensive mobile vr set. Not worth it untill they can play propper games.

@@HereticDuo Yeah but think about it: you need a PS4 that not everyone has; you need a wired headset that isn't cheap ($350 with camera and controllers). Quest is standalone with no wires and multi-room tracking for $400. You can take it to a party and take just that and a $35 chromecast and have Beat Saber fun. You can demo it to friends with nothing else. It's a different animal to PSVR.
@@HereticDuo lmao exactly. Creed looks like a gameboy game on that SD835 and it's an arcade type game. If they even had a SD845 you could have a Native wireless tether to a PC. Oculus really dropped the ball. Good idea but bad execution, only the suckers will fall for it.
This headset will only be worth buying if vridge or alvr gets support which it probably will but who knows what the latency would be like.

The pass through mode... Is that really the best it looks? Odd choice. Wish they had some highdef cams. They missed the opportunity for augmented reality. As a man that sits at a PC for work 8 hours a day, I've been extremely interested in the work possibilities of these devices. I want to put it on, see my work office, and use the rift for multiple virtual monitors and work widgets floating around me, change my environment to something pretty exc.

If they used hidef cameras, it would cost more, plus those are depth cameras that track the controllers because they can see how far or close they are and. High-def cameras would see more colors and confuse the light in the controler.
@@heeff I was, the 2 is coming out soonish with a price tag of 3k. Also they are only selling them to corporations. While the business application for the rift could be sweet. I would still like to see it in the rift to. Just to go into my gaming room and slip it on. Brows the web, then seamlessly hop into a game. While I'm playing I get a call from work. I exit the game and bring up a few virtual desktops and do my work in the rift. Just one mans dream of the future. But I understand the price issue as well. I think I've heard the index may be doing full color pass through but as expected, at a higher price tag.

This headset has served me well from moblie VR till I got a PC for PCVR and I am glad to announe I am upgrading to a Quest 2 for PCVR because of you! Was tiptoe on the fence on getting the Quest, but the real kicker was knowing you can connect the Quest to your gaming pc to up the graphical experience if you so choose with the Oculus Link. Getting this sometime before Christmas this year.

I actually got the quest and robo Recall unplugged was free for me. (I have RR on my oculus account) so think the games are free if you have bought them already
Just had my 128gb Quest delivered and waiting for my wife to come in to open it in front of her, I got the 128gb version as I'll be downloading 360 videos from my insta 360 one X to view. I'm 60 so it goes to show its not just kids interested in VR, I've been using my Samsung Gear VR so I'm used to 3 dof, but this is amazing, my son bought one and showed it me over the weekend. my wife was blown away by the immersion and she said we have to have this and she's 61! Great tips by the way and it came with free Star Wars games.

If you have it connected to your phone and you viewcast it then yeah, but Bluetooth headphones won't connect directly to the oculus.

I might actually get the 64gb model now. I'll still be able to have a good amount of games on it. Besides, I need to get other stuff like a carrying case, and that extra $100 would come in handy.
I mean 14 games installed and he's still got 37 GB remaining? Yeah, not so mad I pre-ordered the 64 GB model now. $100 is a lot for an extra 64 GB. I could buy a lot of games with that, and I'm not likely to have anywhere near 14 games on it.

If you're just watching these at home, I'd recommend keeping them on a computer and streaming them to your headset via Bigscreen.
