Wayne Goss on RUclips has helped me a lot with this. He talks about makeup and the bones of the face. Because he's talking about the anatomy and which bone to follow you aren't going to draw in in the wrong place or at the wrong angle for your face shape. Hope this is helpful 🙂
Same. Creeping up on 54, and perimenopause + early life sun damage are really doing a number on my jawline as well. I’ve always contoured a bit, but very softly, because I had a broad heart shape. Now, between time affecting skin & hairline, I look a lot more oblong (but still broad.). I really ought to play more with contour, and see how my aging skin looks.

You try the products and might say something about it after the first time but then I see you using those products in videos later over and over 😂 I love it .. Also it's only because of you I found out what to do with my olive skin and realised I'm heart shape too not oval as I used to think
I always assumed I was oval, but I’m heart-shaped too! I just learned last year. I got a haircut and lost weight and was like oh, that’s my face now. I think we ❤️ shaped faces are underrated!
based on your picture you are definitely not heart shaped and oval could actually be a good match. Just having a slightly smaller jaw area doesn't make a round, oval or square shaped face heart shaped lol Heart shaped faces are quite long in their nature and they have a long jaw and chin area, which are evidently more narrow than their forehead and cheekbones. There are some people, who are mistyped as heart shaped, when they just have a square shaped face with a longer chin and many of them have very short faces, which heart shaped faces aren't bc of its shape, and their jaws are as wide as the rest of their face.

Just wanted to say that you got me excited about makeup again and inspired me to try different techniques. I've recently discovered your channel and I'm loving it ❤
one of the many things i adore about you is that even though you’re already so knowledgeable and helpful, you’re still always learning/growing and sharing your techniques with us! you’re truly my favorite for makeup/skin.

Even though I don’t do any contouring myself at this point (maybe someday), I always feel like I learn a lot from your ever-changing contour routines. It’s always just a good reminder about how you can bring things forward or push them back with the placement of your makeup. This is one of the areas where I think your painting background really helps you explain makeup in a unique way. Super helpful 💜

I’m extremely new to makeup & you have single-handedly answered nearly every question I’ve had. I am SO GRATEFUL I found your page. Thank you so so much for sharing your knowledge. Your personality & dynamic of your videos are thoroughly appreciated & ultimately unmatched.❤️
You know, I never really use contouring. But I might start. There are parts of my face that I'd rather looked or presented a bit differently and I guess I've always avoided it because I don't really know what I'm doing and also it wasn't ever really something I thought was that important. But it really can change the shape of your face, as you've demonstrated many times. Maybe will give it a go. Thanks, Alex!
I love your contour (and blush placement) videos b/c we have similar face shapes & face goals, even though I'm of a different race. I love that you explain the reasons behind your techniques so I can tweak them to fit my own needs. Thank you!
I’m older but I still enjoy watching your videos. I think back to my makeup routine when I was around your age and I realized I had no idea what I was doing 🤦🏽♀️. Now I’m dealing with weight issues and of course skin care.
This is why I love watching your makeup tutorials above anyone else; you explain techniques to help understand how makeup can be used to enhance natural beauty. Appreciate you xo
I use to love my strong jawline, but I'm 51 and this past year I'm seeing my jowl starting to sag. Definitely going to try this until I figure out a more permanent solution. I have a feeling botox/filler won't do much in this area
It was both helpful AND informative. I have recently been playing more with contour. I don’t have it down quite yet, but you reinspired me to keep trying. Thank you!
One of these Alex, one of these god damn days, I am going to try all of these techniques you show us. But until I do… I’ll just keep on watching, going “ooohhhhhh….” every time you explain something lol.
I’ve been using a lot of these chin/jaw/neck techniques for altering my jaw shape for more masculine cosplays. Not necessarily this specific heart shape but to create harsher more angular features. It’s a great technique for sure.
Woah!!! This was wildly helpful. I can always help others but have issues on my own face & something about how you explained this seemed to have made it click for me. Thank you!
I love these videos because every time you change your contour or a different step in your routine, it gives me new ideas to try, new ways to do things, and learning how to work with my face shape and enhance my features…thank you!
This video is pure gold! 👏🏼I have lupus and other chronic illness and the weight I gain from illness and meds goes straight to my face and jawline so I am so excited to do this!
Alex - I enjoy your beauty vids SO much more than anyone else's! Because you're "real", don't necessarily watch your mouth 🙄 and are more of an artist with your color and shadow use. Thank you for all of your content and honesty!
I love when you do these types of videos! You are so great at not only showing how to but also why it works! Your channel has really helped me learn how to treat makeup like drawing and shading a picture. In one of your older videos you referred to using contour as pushing that specific area back in space and that really stuck with me. Thank you for these great OG tutorials and all of the updated routines!
Just wanted to say damn the skincare payoff is amazing! I never really had a thought about your skin before other than just watching your journey here. It looked pretty healthy and normal as far as I could tell, but I was binge watching my favorite people today (sick day) and ended up on some much older tutorials. I just was like wow! Skin texture and tone and clarity…you did it/are doing it! Thanks for sharing, I have learned so much from you skincare and makeup wise. I mostly stick to your routines that are no makeup looks or makeup if you don’t feel well I think you called one haha Glam natural…idk what to call it…but I actually understand what I should be reaching for and when and how to apply it. I’m in my early 30s just figuring this shit out, but I’m so glad you’re here. Got inspired to look at makeup tutorials to better understand how to edit faces in Photoshop and thus far I enjoy your videos the most as you really delve into the why of your techniques. Lacking makeup knowledge, I feel I can gain more appreciation in how to edit to bring out more beauty in people's face. Thank you for these videos.
Definitely loving the intensity of the temples!! I am on board with this, 100%!! I so appreciate your attention to detail and your ability to explain things in such an understandable way!! Blessings to you, Alex!! ✌️💚🙏
Love this updated contour video! I'm a tad bit older than you and just recently have had to deal with the "jowls." :( UGH! I've found myself looking at people older than me and I see that their lower faces are very heavy and dragging down. Even if they are thin! Sadly, I had never really thought about the natural change that occurs with aging. I guess as we get older we realize that things we thought were icky are just a normal process of aging. That being said, I refuse to accept it at this point. :) :) :) And I totally appreciate your contouring updates. Thank you!
Love all your techniques and the fact that you’re constantly innovating your routine/makeup. I’d love to see your take on strobing! Rather than using contours, how would you achieve these same goals just using highlighting 🙃 Whether that be with foundation, concealer, highlighters, etc
Yes! Contour and bronzer are different. Thank you for saying that. You’re doing what I was taught for stage and film with two exceptions-eye to temple and forehead. I have a wide and high forehead. It needs contouring to minimize it. As I age and my hairline recedes, it’s become a daily necessity.
I'm so happy I found the channel. Most helpful makeup channel by far. You actually break it all the way down though. Thank you! BTW, you're gorgeous!!!
Please do a video on how to make the nose less tall, make the bridge protrude less out from the face and how to deal with a high forehead. Thanks for tackling the jawline as you did. I have always done similar on the eye area with a swipe of blush. It’s like I need it. I will definitely try it with contour! I can’t thank you enough for your wonderful videos!
Would love to see you do the makeup of someone with the opposite/ different face shape as you, to get a more well-rounded understanding of your makeup techniques... Love your videos and your commentary!
i feel like i usually just go for the regular old contour techniques but you have kind of inspired me to take long hard look at my face, and see it more objectively - admittedly there's plenty of things i dislike about my face so i think I have avoided approaching it in any way that requires me to REALLY examine my features, and accept the things i don't like before deciding what techniques to try!
Bro we literally have the same face shape. So I’m extremely grateful for all the techniques you share cause I just do exactly what you do. Lol thanks!!!
Contouring to emphasise ______ face shape would be a great series. Like the opposite of what those google image searches suggest to achieve the “perfect face” which is just to change your angles to look more oval. And maybe doing one side where you copy the suggested placement and one side the badass emphasise those features side.
The chin contouring tutorial is super helpful. I often get outside in the sunlight and it looks like I have a brown chin strap on. I recently stopped doing the "eye lift" contour because I felt like it was really fighting my bone structure and actual eye shape. Now I'm actually just contouring my actual eye socket which gives me a very round, downturned, "twiggy" eye shape, which is the shape I naturally have.
Thanks! I'm trying to figure out my best contour routine and I've gotten great tips from you. I think it's helping, because I've been mistaken for being like 10 years younger recently.
Girl you are still young & beautiful even without makeup you have flawless skin which i wish I have. 53 no dark circles or wrinkles except on my forehead sometimes.
I’ve been following you since u started because you’re literally the only girl on RUclips whose complexion and face structure is 95% like mine. I was so confused as to where to place my cheek contour cuz the “normalized “ way is to place it right underneath & at a higher angle, but I knew that was not working for my type of bone structure & your video made me feel like I wasn’t crazy for thinking about placing it lower. I was already contouring my chin in the way u showed cuz my face gains weight there too, but I definitely have to try the temple trick out. Thank you for being so self aware & observant because it’s hard for people like me to understand their own face. This is a simple video but very much needed. Please always update us when u change your routine cuz I need to learn with u lol.
Bahhhh thank you for the note about the lighting changing the shade of the matchstick!!!I fully thought my product was like faulty or something after seeing urs🧟🧟🧟
Could you maybe do a side by side of the before and after for these technique videos? I'm going back and forth in the video to try and see difference but it's so subtle that it's hard to tell.
THANKS GIRL! FINALLY A CONTOUR PLACEMENT THAT FITS MY FACE! WE HAVE THE SAAAAAME TYPE OF BONE STRUCTURE (WHICH HAS BEEN HARD TO FIND TIPS ON HOW TO CONTOUR PROPERLY ON!) SO THANK U SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP! KEEP UP YOUR AWESOME WORK! SENDING HUGS & PRAYERS!👍🥰🙏✝️
I really love your content! Thank you for being so refreshing. I and probably a few people more would love a more in depth video on different eyeshadow techniques/placements/shapes. You did such an amazing job with the ones you did and it would be great to have one where you talked more about angles and placement with more looks. I only kind of find Marlena Stells one in that regard. I really think you could bring a lot of input for us that's kind of stuck in a rut.
I would love a video describing the difference needed for event makeup vs everyday makeup. Like similar looks but the changes needed to make it one vs the other. Or bridal tutorial? Heck bodybuilder competition makeup tutorial.
Thanks for showing how to do the eyes! We have basically the same exact eyes and I feel like my lids look like they're hanging over my damn eyes now that I'm in my mid 30s. I was doing the concealer at the corners to lift the area but never thought about doing the contour on the actual part I don't like. Totally trying it tomorrow!!!

Love all your techniques and the fact that you’re constantly innovating your routine/makeup.
I’d love to see your take on strobing! Rather than using contours, how would you achieve these same goals just using highlighting 🙃
Whether that be with foundation, concealer, highlighters, etc
Yes! Contour and bronzer are different. Thank you for saying that.
You’re doing what I was taught for stage and film with two exceptions-eye to temple and forehead. I have a wide and high forehead. It needs contouring to minimize it. As I age and my hairline recedes, it’s become a daily necessity.
Where would you place contouring for the forhead? Sometimes I dont like mine and idk how to blend to make it look natural
I'm excited to see your new contour Routine. I get times where I want to change my routine up so I'm excited 💞
This explanation just makes so much sense!!
So useful. Best explanation I've seen so far. Thanks.
Anytime I watch your videos I feel like I’m in an expensive masterclass 🙏🏻 I love how I leave learning something every time !!
You do an amazing job of explaining your process.
I love you so much for not saying "welcome back to my channel".
Girl you are still young & beautiful even without makeup you have flawless skin which i wish I have. 53 no dark circles or wrinkles except on my forehead sometimes.
The only MUA who makes me want to use makeup strikes again!!
good l'fashion makeup tutorial, so refreshing
Omg...i could never analyze my face the way you can! Amazing!
Thank you so much. This taught me a lot and I will be adjusting my contour routine.
I was just watching your vids when I got this notification. Your content is top tier 🔥
the art of renew!!! a great artist changes everytime, well done al!
*notes have been taken for later use* love how much detail you provide!
Great tutorial ♥️♥️. Thanks for uploading although I wish you’ve finished it with a powder contour to see the end result.
🙏🏼 your level of detail ( ie grooves in neck area) provide clarity that is appreciated 💯
I really think you could bring a lot of input for us that's kind of stuck in a rut.
beautiful result
I wish I had your face and eye shape. You're just a natural beauty and anything you do looks great 💖💖💖💖
I would love a video on the difference between contour and bronzer 🥺
Respectfully watching you do your makeup makes me sleepy, just because it’s so peaceful.
I love this. I think defining your temples as you did just enhances your cheekbones more - and it’s gorgeous. ✨
I would love a video describing the difference needed for event makeup vs everyday makeup. Like similar looks but the changes needed to make it one vs the other. Or bridal tutorial? Heck bodybuilder competition makeup tutorial.
Stunning! Incredibly well explained! This video helped me a lot.
We need a morning skincare routine. Your face is always glowing without looks greasy! 😍
I’m not a teacher, but I’ve been a student; you have good teaching skills👍❤️
I really enjoy watching your tutorials
Why did that little “hey.” at the beginning of the video make me smile
Thanks for showing how to do the eyes! We have basically the same exact eyes and I feel like my lids look like they're hanging over my damn eyes now that I'm in my mid 30s. I was doing the concealer at the corners to lift the area but never thought about doing the contour on the actual part I don't like. Totally trying it tomorrow!!!
