The beauty of Bruce's work is, to me, no one song reminds me of another. The diversity of the man, his use of words, his style......singlularly unique. Bruce has no peer. He reminds me of no other artist. He is......Bruce Cockburn. I like too the fact that, for the longest time, he stuck with Eastern/Manta Sound in Toronto exclusively, proving to the world and all those musicians who ran to the U.S. studios, that Canadian recording facilities AND musicians, were/are, world class artists.
this is one of the best bands b.c. has played with, its always been my favorite. the marsh bros are. incredible! hugh almost makes yer ears bleed on"loner",and fergus is brilliant on chapman stick.
This is from a laser disk released in Germany only back in 1985 & is very hard to find. The show is called Purely Music. I'm uploading the entire show later today!
+Joe Klatt Thanks - I do have the laser disc - but i still don't know the exact date and venue. Other than this song, I find the set somewhat sterile, which is a shame.
Great video. Thanks for the post. I always thought the name of this show was "Purely Music"...but I guess that could be a translation of "without filter".
A song from album Dancing in the Dragons Jaws by Bruce Cockburn!Canadian born of Scottish descent!Incandescent Blues the name of the song!Live in Germany!
I have to say that it was kind of spooky to have someone with your name comment on my video - same name as my late brother who I miss terribly. I thought I was being haunted for a while there. Cheers Andrew. ;-)
Here is something for Bruce fans to ponder...he sings of "blinded violins" , yet there is no use of violin on "Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws", it came back on "Humans"...just sayin'.
Technically speaking, it's a Chapman Stick! They're much more than a bass instrument though, although in the 80's, guys like Tony Levin mostly played the bass side. Then again, I think Fergus plays all over the board in a lot of Cockburn songs.
This is my favorite song of his. This live performance just intensives the brilliance
What a fabulous live performance! Love Bruce! One of the best concerts I ever saw but it was a long time ago!

Totally forgot this one. Brucie funk! I think it's my 1st stick.
Fergus Marsh holy crap this is actually Fergus marsh??
Dude. (bows) we're not worthy. we're not worthy.
I remember hearing stick from you on the Bruce Cockburn Live which I had on cassette aged about 13 and loved
Man that is one funky riff Fergus!!!!
Bruce puts on fantastic shows, solo or with band. Fergus on that Chapman Stick is phenomenal.
This was recorded live for "Ohne Filter" in the live studio of SWR (German TV station) in Baden-Baden. First time I ever saw Bruce. Changed my life.
Love the violin
I keep coming back to this track for some reason...brothers Hugh & Fergus Marsh!
Bruce funked this one up pretty damn awesome in this live take.
God, his lyrics take me places...
....Don't they always take you places?....
Fergus Marsh on Stick!!! Great player

Yea no joke GKnight.. goosebumps all over.
"me and mr. jones" is a jam on this chorus, somehow.
on the Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws LP it is very different than this 1, I think I like this 1 better, thank you for upload
Oh how I envy the Germans who got to see this live.

so 80s
possibly Berlin, he did write a tune called "Berlin Tonight" which was rather nice, just a guess tho

I don't suppose anyone would happen to recall what city this was.....
Markus above says Baden-Baden.
Actually I love the song but this arrangement is dire. It's like a jam session with people who have never met before.
wtf is that 'stick' thing, sounding like a bass--wtf is that??
why are they not everywhere now? i don't understand what it is or how it works...
yup it's called a stick !!
Technically speaking, it's a Chapman Stick! They're much more than a bass instrument though, although in the 80's, guys like Tony Levin mostly played the bass side. Then again, I think Fergus plays all over the board in a lot of Cockburn songs.
Guess You have not seen the Peter Gabriel concert videos. Other bass player name You should know Now is TONY LEVIN
