Hearing High Valerian made me remember how English speakers try to speak other non-native languages, such as Russian, Japanese, Italian, or Spanish (or any other). I can't imagine how much time and dedication BRIZZY had to learn High Valerian. So sweet to hear you...
I'm Malaysian and I see these videos of people going to my country (and they're English people, but there's nothing wrong with that, it's cool!) And they mispronounce words and my parents find it hilarious while i find it funny and kind of annoying, since I'm a translator for the people around me. But, its okay-
It depends who speaks it, when Melisandre speaks it it sounds like a very complicated stern Latin. But when Thoros of Myr speaks it sounds like gibberish Greek. Unfortunately there is no consistency on pronunciation in the show or outside of it.
Same... Well I am Russian and I have many relatives which are Greek so it is very easy to pronounce for me. I also know German which makes the "ü" sound really easy to pronounce.
The "r" pronunciation is close to the way we use the "r" in Spanish. Many English speakers have trouble rolling the "r" the right way, but Brizzy's was ON POINT.

This is so freakin cool! I especially love the contacts cause they’re so different from your regular eyes. Also, Dany saying “it’s shameless I know” about the plug was the best part of the video 😂😂😂
I remember when I asked for more GOT stuff in one of her streams and she said GOT had kinda died so she wasn’t gonna do much more GOT content, but no she has :)
"How many people are into things like this", things like this are called conlangs, and I find them very fascinating! Thanks for the video, I picked up High Valyrian on Duolingo a few years ago myself, and remember having a lot of fun. More videos like this would be super interesting! Oh and amazing performance. Geros ilas!
I saw this language listed on the available courses and I just HAD to look it up. As funny as it is to see it genuinely offered for learning on the app, you still make it sound really cool!
The explanation for Ü was exactly the same one I got when learning Mandarin! (Mandarin has an Ü sound, when typing it on a keyboard, they use the V key since Mandarin has no V sound. It's very convenient, lol)
You can legitimately learn the actual conlang High Valyrian on Duolingo! The course was literally made by David J. Peterson, totally free. I've been taking High Valyrian for about a year and a half, and it's a crazy-crazy language that I'm really eager to learn more of lol
I'm new I started and I'm confused about something. Issi and Issa occur in some sentences but not in others, but they mean the same thing, can you explain it to me?
@@LorinSinemDursun "Issi" is plural. "Issa" is singular. And not every sentence needs "issa" at the end, because it's basically an affirmation. You would, however, add an affirmation to, "My name is Daenerys," (e.g.) because it is necessary. You don't say, My name Daenerys," you say, "My name IS Daenerys." I hope that makes sense.
I hope Fantastic Geeks isn’t over for good. I know you and Tessa need time Brizzy but we just love the podcast so much! Please come back soon! Love you Brizzy!
That was great for all of the right reasons. It was great! (Also I enjoyed the slight break the fourth wall with the Hit the like button or "Hit the hand" )

off-topic but i saw the wired interview with david the other day and the way he just speaks like it's a language everyone knows is insane to me also i love how during the long ass paragraph at the end, autogenerated subtitles just went bye *"diner is your master and targarya."*

Wait, I knew you liked Thrones but I didn’t know that Game Of Thrones was your favorite show too!! That was amazing, you absolutely nailed Dany’s voice and Valyrian 😇
Ahh loved this video! Even if the pronounciation wasn't perfect, who can tell unless they've learned it themselves? It sounded so beautiful and I found the way you pronounced each syllable very helpful. And learning about the cultural elements was very interesting. I've been learning the modern Greek language for the past few years (my husband's Greek) and the way they say "hi" literally means "your health" (yia sou = health your), and it's also the phrase they use to say cheers to one person (yia sou) or a group of people (yia sas). My husband and I actually met David Peterson! We were sitting with him and none other than Marc Okrand (the creator of the Klingon language) in a restaurant in Montreal (that's kind of a long story, but long story short we had just attended an event called Langfest). We asked David if he considered himself an artist, since he's crafting languages, and he said that he does! He also said that his favourite part of creating a language is the phonetics. Him and Okrand were very interesting men, but kind of quiet as well (especially Peterson, but he had no choice to talk to us, my husband was directly beside him, and I in front of him haha!). You seem to have a gift with learning languages. I'd love to see more videos like this, and even for "real life" languages, that would be awesome. ^^ I think doing a series on unusual languages or less widely spoken languages (such as Greek) would be so fascinating. ❤️
I want you to do a voice impression of Dora the explorer to say "In the end of the mess we've been going through we are going to die at the end and it's the end.Yay we are going to die!"

High Valyrian sounds strikingly similar to Ancient Greek, phonologically (there may be some lexical similarities too, but I haven't done the research). There's a really good video by The Professor with the Bow-Tie where she reads a passage by Thucydides. Give it a listen and tell me what you think.
fun fact. way back when i was in highschool, my english teacher actually also spoke high valyrian, and when she got mad at someone she always spoke in that language, but little did she knew i understood what she said every time, she was super confused and surprised when i started talking back to her. everyone in the class looked so confused, but we had a good time. even know, many years later im still in contact with her

High Valyrian sounds like gibberish Greek. I'm Greek and I can pronounce every word
That’s amazing
And saying "healthy/health" is one way to say hello in finnish (Terve) or at least it's the same word :D
So it's greek slang huh lolz
