Sleepwalker - Jakob Schubert's Vlog from Red Rocks (incl. Kintsugi, Squoze, etc.)

- On a short notice Jakob joined his friends Nicolai Uznik and Michael Piccolruaz for a trip to Red Rocks, Nevada. He chose Sleepwalker 8c+ as his goal for the trip, his first ever true bouldering project. This self-produced piece displays how promising attempts turned into a mental struggle for Jakob, without harming the good times on the rocks with friends.

Great to hear you conclude that rest days play such an important role on real projecting battles. Good skin and just the rest itself so often gives yo the difference that's needed. I hope you can show us the next trip there whenever it comes.
Dave "the finisher" MacLeod, the man knows how to put down a proj, so says Neil Gresh.
Not many professional athletes are willing to admit "defeat" or even a slight struggle. Your honesty is admirable. I have no doubt the Sleepwalker will fall on the next trip.
This makes Daniel’s ascent of ROTSW even more impressive. He climbed a V12/13 into Sleepwalker, with no rest in between. Also repeated Sleepwalker five times in a single day. Absolutely mindblowing.
It's a v13, not v12/13

My thoughts exactly. Really shows how much of a challenge this is.
and almost climbed it in sneakers(!!!)
That shits V14 my dog. Source: I tried and watched Twig try it for 10+ sessions
Good job Jakob, you keeping up the good vibes in the face of disappointment is a great message for every climber!
Great video, comes across very down to earth. Also love the fact that you give so much recognition to your climbing partners.
couldn't agree more
This was awesome. So nice to see climber's personalities.
If it makes you feel any better, I haven't sent Sleepwalker either. :(
One of the best "Trying to climb a problem" videos I've seen.
So cool. Love those sends and how excited you are for your friends! That's what makes the climbing community so amazing!
Nicolais ascent of Kintsugi is so impressive, Ethan and Keenan took ages as far as I remember to send that rig.
Great little vid, showing wonderful camaraderie and psyche! One of the best things about bouldering!
Love seeing the process.
Love this video. Very good genuine look into the mind of one of the worlds best climbers. Keep it up dude
What an absolutely spectacular video 🤩 Good luck the next time! I am crossing my fingers for the send🚀
Loved the video, so honest!
as much as I loooooove a professional production video...I am just so happy to see a proper old school vlog without 285924894298347 drone shots! Amazing video, great climbing! I am sure you will climbing it next time :)
This is my favorite Sleepwalker video.
that last try was soooooo close. Awesome video
Sick video. Looking super strong!
thanks for that one! good to see you struggle too
No shame in not sending Sleepwalker this trip. That thing is an absolute beast of a boulder.
amazing line a show thanks man
Amazing job Jakob!
Mammut is the best. Love seeing Stampy crashpads! Great attempts Jakob!!!
That is some PUMPing music :D Fun video!
Yes! Finally the sandbagger gets sandbagged.
nice effort, good analysis of the process
12:33 the way you climb that upper part looks so chill
Great video and really instructive to see how the process unfolds when the send doesn't come. Not many climbers are so open. I don't doubt you'll get it eventually though.
Impressive !
So he is human after all
still a god to me ;)
Respect Jakob!
Rad video
Very rad vid! I'd have bet on your chances to rise to the occasion and pressure after more rest days and go for glory on the last. The times you've stepped up to the challenge at the comps, Olympics final, World champs final as just two examples. But that's hindsight for ya :)
Jacob is so damn cool.
Crazy to see how much stronger Daniel Woods is/was. This proves that Jakob ist a climber and Woods a pure boulderer
That's a psyched crew for sure
13:24 what warm-up board is that?
Sick video! 🤙🏽
Repping the Awesome Woodys hangboard!!
this almost put me to sleep
What's that red mammut shirt with the thinner material on the back? Seems like it would be really nice for carrying a backpack but I can't find it on the mammut website.
I already feared that Jakob would downgrade Sleepwalker ;) great fight though and thanks for the insights
Just a heads up for future trips Jakob so you don't get in to any trouble, the area of Red Rock Canyon you were in is a designated wilderness area and does not allow drone usage. I saw a few drone shots of Black Velvet which is technically not legal.
Are there exceptions via permits? Just wondering
nächstes Mal, Jakob!
"Gemma wieder? Gemma wieder!"
"Bistdu gelehmt, das ist weit!"
Hahaha just too hilirous!!!!
ROTSW confirmed vhard
Those Boulderproblems have cool names there
Atlas shrugged must be among the best names for a boulder yet.
"Almost done" at 3:14 ahahahah
is there more footage of vegas?? 🥳
When it suddenly becomes Sleepworker...
It appears that sleepwalker is a hard boulder.
damn looks like kintsugi is officially v14
Name of the songs?
Which language do they speak when they are not speaking english? For me it sounds like finnish with a slight north corean accent. - For sure no strong language but very encouraging words!
They're speaking German with Tyrollean accents. Some bits are in dialect rather than high German (they're from Innsbruck, Austria), but it's still very distinctly German. I have to say, to me it sounds absolutely nothing like Finnish (I've lived in both Finland and Innsbruck).
Coole Musik - kommt man sich ja vor wie auf einem boulder - Goa festival.
Bist du Moped👍🏻
This is so much better than the mellow videos- so nice to see the moves and discussion about Holds. Great work!
I wonder if Rhino Skin spit would help?
Michael and Twig are kinda twinzies
des gibs nit.. wie i hin woa im schedl jz...🤣🤣 i hau mi oh!
My question is when he inevitably does sleepwalker will he still downgrade it. Or ultimate flex Will bosi comes and does it and downgrades🤔🤔🤔
Since he's spent so long it I doubt he will downgrade. And I don't think it is Will's style so I would expect he struggles on it just as much

Great video, good luck Jakob. Loved the Kintsugi boulder too. But playing music at a crag... thats just a big no-go
What do European climbers think of the grades in the US? I’ve heard some people say that we sandbag more than Europeans.
Yeah I’m wondering the same, I think that both Kintsugi and Squoze were originally rated 8c, but were downgraded. We have so many different areas and styles like other countries where I think the most consistency would be found at a higher level where the same athletes are putting up climbs.
@@nathanielferg8771 I think that we are full of ourselves here in the US. HOWEVER, we don’t play around with our grades - especially in the bouldering world. I think most people would find 7Cs, for example, harder in the US than in Europe. Just my opinion, though. I could be another cocky American.
@@ShakespeareanBroncobuster What is this opinion based on?
@@robbieallerhand I did not state my opinion… I assume that the respective opinions of the European climbers that I spoke with are based on their experiences in Europe and the US…. In short, they claimed that boulders in the US seem to be harder for the grade. They based that opinion on their experiences. I am unsure as to how this was unclear…
@@ShakespeareanBroncobuster It honestly depends. There are plenty of sandbagged areas in Europe just as there are plenty of soft crags in the US.
