  • #blackexpats #livinglifeabroad #BlackinCostaRica 'Living Black in Costa Rica Black Expats Living Life Abroad' Devon has been living in Costa Rica for 6 years now. Four in Grecia and now in Escazu. An interesting fact, Devon actually reached out to Travel Costa Rica NOW back in 2015 and we actually had a SKYPE call. I could help her to an extent but being that I am not black, I couldn't actually answer some of her questions, just give my observations. Anyway, she has been very busy these days with her FaceBook groups (helping black folks relocate to Costa Rica). and the fact she has 3 shows on a fairly new Black Radio Station (streamed on the internet) called Blaxit (details below). This video, 'Living Black in Costa Rica Black Expats Living Life Abroad' is on how she came to live in Costa Rica, her thoughts on how Costa Rica treats black people and her radio station, Blaxit and much much more. You’re so blessed you live in a beautiful and peaceful country. I visited Costa Rica for the first time over the summer and I fell in love! The people were warm and loving. The food is delicious and healthy. I lost weight on my trip as well because of the fresh food and daily walks. I have a lot of respect for the locals because it’s impressive that they can live in parts of Costa Rica that are hot and humid. I stayed in Monteverde for a few days and the humidity was a little intense especially after receiving rain lol

My son moved to Costa Rica about 8 years ago, he loved it because he just became a part of Junkial a small community on the Pacific Ocean. I went down there last fall, had to meet my new daughter inlaw from Ukrane. I was surprised how many Tico friends he had, the younger kids called me pappa. Not bad for the dad of a total PTSD MARINE that couldent even funtchion in the US .He is now starting a business doing 3 D videos with his drone and 3D camera for a realtor and has the most wonderful wife he could ever hope for.

Not YET! I LOVE Costa Rica soooooo much!!!! However as an American those white people coming down their will start the shit sooner than later as they ALWAYS do WHEREVER they go!! I was traveling and passed the Dole farm which crop dusted everyone on the bus with chemicals. I immediately knew what was up because the farm is in the Caribbean ,"darker" area of the country. After 3 seconds of research I learned that it was making men infertile for the past 20 years or so. You simply CANNOT trust them and as soon as you open the door for them to buy up real estate it's the same EXACT time they're planning their take over and it ALWAYS starts by turning the locals against each other and making them rude to white foreigners in which they will pay the police/government to do something about it AKA arrest detain and separate the locals. AKA gentrification. It's unfortunate that seemingly EVERY dark culture around the world takes the "friendly" bate but NEVER remember they are the same people that keep them starving and or fucked them up in the first place. I wish NOTHING but the best for NATIVE Costa Ricans as they are amongst the BEST people I've ever had the joy of talking to and interacting with in my 12+ country travels. PURA VIDA!!!!!!

I live in the east side of town. Los Yoses, Barrio Escalante, Barrio Dent…no question … the best area of San Jose.. and not that many gringos. 40-50 bars and restaurants, mostly with with local people. Super safe. Close to downtown. Awesome neighborhood. I highly recommend.

Black expats doesn't say where you come from there are black people in costa rica already in a general sense when people move from one place to the next, national origin is commonly used to describe expats. Its like saying black expat living in martinique when the island is full of them already, although they would be alot different than americans, assuming you are one

I always ask them why they think that word black is only unique to them. And why they do not choose a colour green instead to remove this black label .
And give themselves a unique identity that is only for them.

Lady COSTARICAN Black people are very United compared to USA 🇺🇸 Blacks in USA. 🇺🇸 are very very divided amongst their own self . They are so divided Omg. 😧
Please please please don’t bring negativity to my beautiful Costarica. Because I am Native Costarican and can’t wait to come back to my Beautiful Costarica am. a American Citizen as well as I naturalized years ago here in USA and I had a terrible culture shock here in USA
We in Costarica are humble loving and please don’t mess up our beautiful country anyone want to move need to get rid off racism if they gringos and in the case of blacks they need to get rid of backstabbing their own black people
❤️Black people in Costarica don’t have the slavery stigmatized most of us don’t even feel black. So please leave the selfishness in USA 🇺🇸
BTW if anyone want to ask me about Costarica ?? Ask me because I can tell you about both countries better than anyone that just moved to my country.
As I am real Costarican and unfortunately moved to USA 🇺🇸 years ago thinking that it was great but it wasn’t greater than my COSTARICA. So now all I need is to retrieve my retirement and head the hell back to my Beautiful loving Costarica 👍

It could be in a follow up video or you could just ask Devon. Property owners and managers were discounting rents like crazy in 2020 as no one was getting in and lots of people were breaking their leases and moving back to their hometowns to ride out the lockdown which lasted nearly a year in Costa Rica. The government wasn't handing out stimulus checks and inflated unemployment checks like in the US. It was maybe a once in a life opportunity, but there are economic cycles and natural disasters will probably just increase in frequency going forward.

I don't know as a Costarican I don't believe we discrimante our black people. What happens is what happen s most places where black people live, they are more racists than white people treat them like. I fact I have so many good, very good friends here that are black people and I doin't feel any diference with my white or black friends. Skin color to me as for many of my friends has nothing to do with us.. Every body is more than welcome to our land as long as they come in peace and willing to share with us.

Very nice, interview, I lived in the SF. Bay Area for 40 years, Oakland, and Richmond, Originally from DETROIT. I just did an interview with Mrs Charlotte Van Horn, because now I'm in Panama. Stationed here in the early 1980's I was treated pretty nice, but that was 40 years ago, and now the millennials are not the same. I'm also thinking of coming to Costa Rica in July, for a conference, and I've put out 7 CD's over the internet. A very nice interview.
