I wish all banjo tutorials began with telling us what tuning the instrument is in and / or playing all the strings , so that we can tune by ear if it's not in a pitch that the tuner recognises as actual notes. (Said soulfully and with much sighing!)

Ive been playing my fretless banjo for 6 years now, lost in the woods as it were and unable to find good information. Watching this set on playing techniques has been very eye opening! The hand positioning is brilliant and has already changed my playing.
The nail sliding technique is great to see represented here too. I was told about it from the perspective of Indian music, on the Sarod. Wonderful information, thank you!

Thanks Tom. This is great. So you prefer a brass plate or not brass plate? I find the brass plate is nice but if you don’t plan with your nail then it sounds deadened.
