Can't rule the world if you're the only guy in it.
Doom is the kind of guy that wants everyone to acknowledge his greatness, and that can’t happen after all your enemies are dead. They have to be alive first. He’s like Gul Dukat from Star Trek in that respect; Doom wants his statues.
@@SamaritanPrimeEveryone is equal under Doom
Then this is definitely a more benevolent version of Doom than the 616 version. That gruesome bastard murdered every single man, woman, and child in an entire universe (including his own alternate self's young sons) for no other reason than that his good variant made fun of his cape. Yeah. I love that she has Maddy’s maternal instinct.
It's in her just like everything else is.
Jean has always been a mother to the team, she doesn’t need to have a kid herself to do what she thinks is right.

This show is an absolutely perfect example of how source material ADAPTATIONS should be done. None of these storylines "happened that way in the comics" but you're still getting the full impact of each story involved in the retelling. Absolute masterclass
exactly........THIS IS HOW YOU ADAPT A STORY!!
They simplified Bastion's backstory, and made it easily understandable.
@@jlg14450 while also doing like 3 other dense stories at the same time. But just the fact that we're getting Life Death, 0 Tolerance, E is for Extinction... And possibly the birth of Onslaught in 1 season is flipping incredible

Perfect description. I would have loved to see DC live action rolled to the animated writers from justice league
Honestly showing up literally 5 minutes after Magneto EMP'd the whole planet likely causing untold amounts of destruction and being like "Im here fam dont worry" is the most Xavier thing that Xavier could do!
He crashed. He got EMP’d too. 🤣
Realistically, millions if not hundreds of millions would have instantly died. Magneto just killed everyone with pacemakers, on life support, on ventilators, everyone in a flying plane or helicopter, and disrupted supply chains, which will cause many to starve.
@@andrewli6606 not to mention every nuclear reactor has just gone critical when the water pumps shut off.
@andrewli6606 I don't think the initial kill count would be that high (from hospitals, planes, etc. losing power.)
However, despite that, the damage he did is actually worse than what you described.
1) How do we grow food?
2) How do we preserve food?
3) How do get clean water?
4) How do we make medicine?
Etc.

If Magneto's EMP hit everything and wasn't temporary, every country on Earth just collapsed and humanity is about to go through an extinction type event.

Adam's shirt has never been more spot on for an episode than today.
Adam's immediate laughing and crying at how amazing this show is, is the most relatable thing ever lol
This has literally been my reaction after every episode.
Fr the ending made him hit the Joker laugh
That sad "..daboo dee daboo diiiie.." was too perfect 😂
One of the best off the cuff references ive heard this year
Yo listen up, here is the story...
"Family... is a choice." With Adam looking right at Jay at 6:53? Awesome, heartwarming, and exactly why we tune in on the regular
"The U.N. lady," voiced by Catherine Disher, who was the original voice actor for Jean Grey in the 90's X-men TAS.
And she was married(since divorced) to Cedric Smith, who voiced Professor Xavier in that same series too
In other reaction videos I heard someone called "A better Grace Randolph"
If Dr Cooper isn't Mystique, a human just said Magneto was right. Also, it is so powerful that the first word Magneto says after Genosha is "Enough".
...which is why I don't want it to be Mystique.
Yeah I really hope those theories are wrong. Cooper being just human Val hits harder for multiple reasons: 1. She's not a mutant, obviously. 2. It ties to the popular "first they came..." quote, because Val's epiphany really started to hit home when she saw HER people being disadvantaged 3. I think this will lead to Bastion's "when you don't have skin in the game, the answer is apathy" quote...because, well, Magneto just declared war and the lines can no longer be tip toed
@@aterwilligerthe line only makes sense if it's not mystique. Also Animated series mystique had no connection to Magneto
we know mystique loves the 'business woman with glasses' trope though so idk
To answer Jay’s question, the majority of mutants DON’T have powers. Just visual or health differences (an example being the morlocks), and most of the ones that do have powers aren’t as trained for battle as the Xmen. So the majority of the people hating on mutants in-universe are hating on the ones that simply look different or cause accidents. To quote something i saw someone say, “They are the exception, that’s why they are the X-men”.
I love their take on Bastion's origin (remember, Nimrod was in the past, trying and failing to kill young Charles in "One Man's Worth")
Even better is that the people they used as his mother & father were some of the bigots in the restaurant, in that episode. In fact his mother was the one that told the owner about Wolverine & Storm holding hands.
Fun fact for you guys and anyone else who didn’t know this: Beau DeMayo said to watch the One Man’s Worth arc to prepare for this episode and here’s why: you can see Bastion’s parents before they became his parents. His mom is the waitress who tells on Logan and Storm for being a mixed race couple and his dad is one of the guys fighting them wearing a black leather jacket.
Bastion was just being created in the comics when the original show was being made, so he wasn't planned for it. The writers of this show are just geniuses when it comes to utilizing stuff from the original
Think his dad was actually helping them which is sadly ironic
They're repurposing background characters not continuing anything with them.
Got the correction y’all! Thanks 🙏🏽
For me, it goes X-men theme song with Batman the Animated Series, in a close second.
I'm also a huge fan of the Thundercats theme song. But I would agree those two are even better.

I said this on discord too, but…a hill I’m ready to die on: this ep is the single best 30 minutes of superhero content ever put on a screen. Not “xmen content” or “animated superhero content” or even “marvel content.” The single best 30 minutes of superhero programming in human history

this episode.....this series......we as pop culture heads been eating good in the 2020s!
What this show establishes is that guys like the Hulk or Spider-Man are accidents whereas the Mutants are inevitable, they are replacing the humans. I think the show is an allegory for the far right theory of "The Big Replacement".
Oh Adam how prescient was that t-shirt choice, dude... the pov shot of Nightcrawler bamfing through the brimstone dimension was so badass!!!
The Phoenix girl you thought was Hope was Rachel Summers.
The difference between mutants and mutates is replacement. Think of it like Mexicans coming in to the states and people are starting to have Mexican blood. As opposed to people learning Spanish. The Hulk is a person learning Spanish while the X-men are all half Mexican. And the funny part is that Bastian's plan is to make people mad that "Mexicans" are taking their jobs, while hiring "Mexicans."
"Make people mad that "Mexicans" are taking their jobs, while hiring "Mexicans""
Hmmmm, why does this sound familiar?
@@foulrot Bastion would be quite successful in 21st century politics.
Oh the irony....
Just have to say, Rachel doesn't get enough love in my opinion. Anytime she is in a book I'm immediately picking that book up.
The reason for why Mutants get the short-end of the stick is because they're easily Othered for being naturally different. With Hulk, it's like "oh that poor poor man, what a tragedy!" or with Spider-Man it's "Wow! Look at the guy who responsibly used his accident to be a good person!"
Nightcrawler with the "nine" double entendre. ❤9️⃣
“Is that Hope?”
Poor Rachel. 😢
No counting cameos, has Rachel Summers ever appeared in any adaptations yet? She must be the most important x-men characters to never be adapted, so I can see why they didn’t recognise her here

X-Men fans have never been spoiled this much outside of comics in history! Whether it’s the deadly tag team of Nightcrawler and Wolverine, the Summers Family fighting a horde of Prime Sentinels, Bastion’s on screen debut as one of the the biggest and most formidable villains in Marvel history, Magneto proving again why he’s one of the most OP characters in comics history, and Charles Xavier ending the episode with “To me my X-men”.
*AND THIS IS JUST PART ONE!?!?!?!* If parts 2 and 3 are this great or even better this will go down as the greatest comic book tv show ever made!
She has to say her "friend Storm" because Nightcrawler hasn't met Storm yet in this universe.
Okay but can we talk about that look Adam gave Jay when Kurt was talking about how family is who you choose 😭
Also I feel you guys I am usually speechless for a second after each episode this show is SO PEAK!!!
The Gummy Bears theme song also deserves a mention for "this kids show theme song didn't need to go this hard"
Wait wait wait....we can't forget the Ducktales theme song!
The gummy bears theme song describes Nightcrawler so well. 😂 dashing and daring, courageous and caring.
Honestly, the first 4 shows of the Disney afternoon could easily be worth a mention. Adventures of the Gummi Bears, Ducktales, chip n’ dale’s rescue rangers, and darkwing duck. Even Goof Troop is pretty decent.
6:36 Jesus CHRIST, Adam 🤣🤣🤣 I thought I was gonna pass out laughing at that
Me too 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
I think the reason most heroes are accepted but not mutants is because mutants symbolize the idea that humanity will/has essentially become obsolete. So it breeds hatred/biggotry
I watch this show with my wife who does NOT like hero based stuff but she loves this. I think it’s a testament to the fact they made hardcore fans happy while also accounting for newcomers
I love that this episode was so awesome it literally made Adam cry.
I googled this guys.
Work on a second season had begun by July 2022, and writing on the second-season finale started by July 2023. DeMayo had finished writing for the second season and began discussing ideas for a potential third season by March 2024, when he was fired by Marvel Studios ahead of the series' premiere.
Any idea why he was fired?

I would’ve never imagined this show to be as great as it is. Literally bringing my excitement for marvel back
My god that Eiffel 65 reference was just sooo well timed. Hahaha also shows how old we are too.
I am so happy that they’re not going to try to save Genosha with Time Travel. Gambit literally had one of the most epic and beautiful ending of any marvel character since Iron Man. Let him have it; and I am so happy they didn’t cheapen it with a lazy “poof time travel”.
But they need to bring him back in some way. He is too cool of a character to lose this early. I mean, we just got him back after 27 years. This is the best version of Gambit I have ever seen so far. The movies didn't do him justice.
@@crimsonghoul8983 No they don’t. Just like how they don’t need to bring back RDJ Tony Stark. Have his death mean something like Jiraiya in Naruto.
That said, if they want to do something like have Sinister reanimate his corpse into a Prime Sentinel Zombie Gambit… I wouldn’t hate that either. Lol
@@crimsonghoul8983I’m hoping we get the gambit horseman of death storyline
It's comics; the only people who stay dead are uncle Ben and Batman's parents.

6:36 had me doing a spit take in the middle of a powerful moment. 😂 There is so much to love about this show, and as someone who is deep into American Civil War history, Val Cooper’s speech hit hard and is one of the highlights. This is a rich series with messages that run deep and never does it insult our intelligence.
Plus, it is giving Nightcrawler a huge glow up, and I am here for it. I love Kurt as a character and they are nailing him.
Kurt is quickly being made the heart of the team. Uh oh.
I love your reactions so so much… you guys are my #1 reactors… I will literally stop what I’m doing when I see you upload a reaction

6:36 - the CACKLE I let out...Adam I love you so much!
Finally, Marvel gives Logan the very thing the original animated series denied him in the first place: slicing and dicing through human guts, Jack Hughman style! (I know they're basically Sentinels but still...)
4:42 That was Rachel Summers. Recall she has those distinctive Naruto-like marks along her face. I'm still trying to figure out how the Prime Sentinels managed to subjugate a seemingly Phoenix-empowered Rachel Summers. But since she was conceived when Jean Grey was still bonded to the Phoenix, it might be a narrative liberty.
That is true.
The phoenix is a literal god, a force of nature ,even the celestials fear it .The shiar a mighty space empire feared it.
There is no way any mere mortal could contain it
Like u said it's creative liberty
I figured it was Madame Masque with Zemo and Doom. The laughter at the end pretty much summed this episode up 😂
I was freaking out the whole episode! This was the best penultimate episode. This is how you do X-Men!❤❤❤
Logan was wrong. Magneto didn't start a war. He accepted the declaration against his people.
6:36 Made me spit my drink Adam.
X-Men 97 has been approved for three seasons, possibly a 4th. Beau Demayo has written an entire three season arch for the story, but if he's not working with them, the rest of the writers will basically be following his road map at least.
Fun fact: Beau DeMayo, a writer on Moon Knight, was asked to make the pitch for this revival. He also wrote a number of the episodes, which explains why it's so good. Moon Knight is easily one of, if not the, best written Marvel productions ever.
Mannnnn, every second of this episode I was genuinely like 😱 also..I'm 90% sure thats the legend Simon Templeman Voicing Dr Doom! He was the voice actor from the old F4 cartoon! and of course Kain from the Legacy of Kain games!
This is the best X-Men ever.
06:37 That blue joke 🤣 chef's kiss 😘😂😂😂
The 3rd season is in production, though they're looking for a new head writer for it. Beau De Mayo completed the writing for all of season 2 before he was released. And the Phoenix power wielding character was Rachel Summers, not Hope.
Seeing yalls reactions made me so happy especially with ur reaction Jay! Its insane how good this show is !
There was a crossover between the original Spider-Man and X-men cartoon were Spidey says that he isn't proud to be a freak and wishes he could be normal, where as the X-men believe in embracing their powers/mutations. Which I think represented the differences in their thinking.
Yeah, that was the Man-Spider miniseries. Hank tried to reverse SM's mutation and ended up making it worse when Peter took the serum early.
1.) It took me waaay too long to get that song reference. Nicely done
2.) The Christopher Daniel Barnes was asked if he’d reprise his role as the Wall Crawler and CBD was all for it.
Come to me my XMen > Thunder, thunder, thunder, thundercats!! HOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Great reaction first time viewer here. The guy in the pink hoody reminded me of my late friend David, since he looks so similar, he was a good fan of anything comics related. I imagine if he was alive today we would be enjoying this gem of a show and talking like you did at the end like we used to do. Sometimes I feel bad for all the wonderful animations he didnt get to see, since he died 14 years ago. I miss you my friend, I hope somehow you could watch all of this wherever you are.
That wasn't Hope that was Rachel Summers daughter of Scott and Jean. She's from Days of Future's Past Time Line. You can tell by the Hound marks on her face when she was forced to hunt other mutants before she escaped them and went back in time and Joined X-Men then Excalibur back in the 80s/90s. She's still part of the X-Groups til this day. Edit: There are enough Summers to have one on each X-Team out there. Same could be said of Wolverine's kids too.
The way Adam looked at Jay when Nightcrawler said, "Family is a choice" ...
18:50 was literally the exact same reaction I had after this episode. This makes me so happy! 😅
not the eiffel 66 line - you legit cracked me up.
Why are we more ok with accident powers (Hulk) vs mutants?
Same reason we hate any new and growing population. We're afraid of losing power. We're afraid of being replaced. We can waive a hand at the Hulk because it's not an entire race of hulks being born. Asguardians mostly stay out there in space. But my child might be a mutant. My child might be different from me. My world view might not perpetuate to the next generation.
And we as humans can't stand the notion that we might be becoming irrelevant.
So many cameos......OMG it's was hype overload. So much just got green lighted for possibilities of stories and villains as well as other shows like this being made........and I'm SOOOOO HAPPY!!!!
I like this take on Bastion better honestly.
“Healing generational divides.” YES!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
6:37 took me a second but thanks for the laugh
22:08 two ways to answer this, in universe and out
1) Mutants being the next step in human evolution - when some humans hear that, they feel obsolete. Survival instincts kick in, they feel like they're being replaced by "genetic freaks"
2) that's kinda the point/allegory. It doesn't make sense to hate them because they're different. They're just like everyone else, just different-which can be scary.
this! i was about to answer this as well! When the comparisons to homo sapien vs other proto-humans is brought up a lot in the comics it's a sort of existential, if not instinctual, reaction for some.
Not Hope, Rachel Summers, Scott and Jean’s daughter from a different time line, the future past timeline. She becomes a host for a portion of the Phoenix force as she travels through time herself when the Phoenix force senses her passing by and feels Jean, her mother, she is telepathic and telekinetic, powerful af. She was once a “hound”, used by the Sentinel regime to hunt mutants. She helped Kitty push her consciousness back in time to her younger self to warn the past of the coming doom. The comics explain why humans hate mutants and support heroes, heroes are seen as humans/aliens that fight for mankind, mutants are seen as mankind’s inevitable replacements, if we have learned anything from history, man destroys things it fears to be stronger than itself. Second season is green lit, show runner was fired some say it’s because of his only fans account, yes he has(d) prior to being hired so they knew already, but it’s really because he was found to be difficult to work with and the third season is now being written, all announced.
I really like the discussion in the end with "why only mutants and not the other superheroes". The thing is, the bigotry is more or less a thing with other superheroes too. Hulk, for instance, has most of his stories revolving around him being seen as a monster and being chased by the military for that. Spiderman, while on a far smaller scale, still got berated and called a menace for a long long time. They legit had a whole "civil war" revolving around the issue of regulating superheroes. And then there's organizations like SHIELD that are known for having contingencies against all these heroes in case they need them.
Point is, humanity in Marvel does indeed fear superhumans in general. What makes it worse with mutants is the xenophobia on top of it, the fact that mutants are somehow fundamentally different and hence not "one of us". Not to mention the fact that "mutants are the next step in evolution" is basically seen as "mutants are gonna replace all of us" rather than "we'll all eventually evolve to be mutants".
YES! Swat Katz is the best theme song of all time! Ducktales is also a contender.
Adam, that's not Hope at 4:41, Bro. That's Rachel Summers. Her showing up is tremendously significant to Cable's history. Not to mention Scott and Jean.
Adam's version of the Jay's incontrollable laugh is great 😂
I was in college when the original show first aired, and was in full time employment by the end so I never got the chance to experience the childhood joy of the show. Still watched it because of the comics
Nightcrawler dual wielding swords gives me Mollymauk Tealeaf vibes. Long may he Reign!
Did anyone else notice that when Xavier called the x-men to him, "jean" has her hair down, despite us JUST seeing her with it in a ponytail? I think Madelyne is alive, and she heard the call since Jean is already with Cyclops and Cable.
I want it to be true but I doubt she will be back so soon.
She and gambit will probably come back along with apocalypse
Jay's asking the right question, and this has been a topic of discussion in the comics. The Mutant Registration Act was a precursor to the Super-human Registration Act. Spidey voiced the unfairness and asked the question when is he going to get targeted. The issue is that people view folks like the Avengers as "heroes" and mutants as "insurgents" and "rebels."
Also there's the whole existential threat thing. Iron Man doesn't risk making home sapiens extinct. Homo sapien superior does.
It's not Hope, the girl repairing the SF bridge with scars on her face and Phoenix flames is Cable's half-sister/Scott & Jean's daughter from an alternate dystopian future from the Days of Future Past storyline. Her name is Rachel Summers and she's amazing.
AND somehow the sentinels contained a phoenix force weirder.

The person you thought was Hope is actually Rachel Summers: Jean and Scott's daughter, and Cable's sister.
6:45 Aww Adam's little glance at Jay. Family is a choice indeed!
The thing with the difference between mutants and other superheroes is like, other heroes started their life as human, while mutants were never human, even if they didn't have powers at birth. It makes them inherently more 'other' which in turn makes them an even better allegory for the societal issues their supposed to represent.

This show is exactly how comics should be adapted, to a T- the stories can have changes made to them, as long as they’re well told and coherent, but the characters should be properly represented to their fullest, without question. Like, creators can put as much of their own spin on the presentation and story as they want, like dear god Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man is still a dream- but the movies and shows are always going to be the most widespread popular versions of the characters themselves, so I believe that it’s creator’s duty to properly and faithfully adapt those characters to their fullest, and this show has nailed literally everyone.
*points directly at spiderman* “YOUR BEXT BUD, I SWEAR IF YOU ARENT NEXT I WILL RAMPAGE”
Close!!! That was Rachel Summers. The actual daughter of Scott and Jean.
The red-headed woman isn't Hope, it's Rachel Summers, a major figure in X-Men. She's Cyclops's and Jean Grey's daughter and raised Cable in the future. The black marks on her face is from where she was turned into a Hound by Ahab.
When Jean said "telling my friend Storm" I think she was specifically stating that...Madelyne knew Storm as a friend. We all know who Storm is...she was being specific as to the nuances of Madelyne's memories and how they feel to her. She can't view Madelyne as an imposter anymore, she feels her feelings as if they're her own.
