    This lady is spreading this precious knowledge for watercolour beginners free of cost. Love her for this. People out there are charging so much just for basic lessons n here she is teaching so many intricacies so honestly without charging a penny. Gratitude is what I have in my heart for her. God bless her n her family

    Thank you for addressing these issues. Also, I LOVED your encouragement near the end of the video where you talked about not giving up and learning with each piece. Sometimes I tend to get frustrated with all of my mistakes and walk away from it, only to return feeling defeated and inadequate. Your encouragement is greatly appreciated ❤️

    Such a necessary lesson, Emma. You are the only one who taught me how to make a very light wash for florals. It took a couple of months to have it "soak in" (pardon my pun!), but it's astonishing how very little minute amounts of pigment are needed. I would still have a value of 5 for my florals were it not for your important lessons. And I do mean VERY little pigments are needed, even Cotman colors (which I adore!). In the very beginning I used to accidentally use a dry brush technique for my flowers, loading my brush straight out of the tube with my Michael's/Reeves brand wc's. Talk about dry, flat, dead color! LOL Anyway, you taught me all I needed to know about light values and appropriate wet colors. Great lesson. Thanks, Em! :)

    Also, I have scrubber brushes to scrub out small mistakes. You do have to be careful not to ruin the paper, but it can fix the little splatters. And, also, I usually just go w/ it & splatter the whole painting, especially florals, it can really add to the piece!

    Emma, when looking at reference photography photos for ideas is that an infringement to not necessarily copy but to obtain ideas..

    • @EmmaLefebvre
      @EmmaLefebvre  4 года назад +3

      susan no, not in my opinion. I mean you don’t want to copy exactly... especially if you’re selling your work. But you can copy if you’re learning and practicing. Taking away inspiration from a piece is fine.

    I seem to have trouble with wet on wet and using different values. I am painting an oblong radish and working down from dark to medium and then at bottom there is no paint. By the time I get to the medium value, the water has dried up and if I add more water, I get that bloom. It is a botanical England radish wherein I am painting carefully on the sides and keeping with a straight line and being careful, in the meantime, the place where medium value goes, it is dried. So frustrating. I like realistic flowers but am having trouble with drying water or too much water and then it dries and it is too weak.
